The A.V. Club is an entertainment website featuring reviews of films, music, television, books, games and DVDs, as well as interviews and other regular offerings examining both new and classic media and other elements of pop culture. The A.V. Club was initially created in 1993 as a supplemental part of The Onion and had a minimal presence on The Onion’s website in its early years, but in 2005—during a website redesign—its online identity grew and matured in ways that allowed it to have an identity all of its own. Unlike its parent publication, The A.V. Club is not satirical.
The publication’s name is a reference to school audiovisual clubs, "composed of a bunch of geeks who actually knew how to run the filmstrip and film projectors."
In 1993, five years after the founding of The Onion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW student Stephen Thompson launched an entertainment section, later renamed The A.V. Club as part of the newspaper's 1995 redesign. While the section was initially viewed as an afterthought to the publication's flagship fake news stories, Thompson credited it as becoming "very important" in allowing The Onion to expand distribution nationwide, as it was easier to sell advertising next to movie reviews and concert listings than satirical news items.
Okilly Dokilly is a heavy metal band from Phoenix, Arizona that plays "Nedal" music; a subgenre of metal music themed around the animated character Ned Flanders from the television series The Simpsons. All five of the band's members perform dressed as Flanders, and the majority of the lyrics to their songs are quotes of his. The band members go by the names Head Ned, Bled Ned, Red Ned, Thread Ned and Stead Ned. The unusual concept behind the group has resulted in worldwide attention. The lead singer, Head Ned, said that Nedal music is "Not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk”, references to hardcore punk and crust punk, respectively.
The band has acquired over 30,000 likes on Facebook.

While the official kickoff of A.V. Undercover’s eighth season is still a week away, we thought we’d whet our readers’ proverbial appetites with a special bonus track in advance. In the video above, the lovable scamps in The Regrettes take on Sweet’s “Fox On The Run,” a song that you might be familiar with if you’ve been paying attention to our other recent video offerings. The up-and-comers tackle “Fox On The Run” with a youthful ferocity that would seem a little daunting if you didn’t know the group’s lead singer, Lydia Night, is actually only 16 years old—and thus far more full of energy than the vast majority of us old fuddy-duddies. The Regrettes’ debut record, Feel Your Feelings Fool!, is out now on Warner Bros. The group kicks off a run of summer tour dates June 11 in Phoenix. Visi...
The Foo Fighters’ “Monkey Wrench” is fierce, hooky, guitar-driven rock—not really what Judah & The Lion are known for. But the Nashville natives took the challenge head-on and chose the song for their Undercover. They blended their signature bluegrass-tinged sound with the high-energy, post-grunge stylings of the Fighters and created something that still sounds right at home in their catalog. Judah & The Lion’s latest record, Folk Hop N’ Roll, is out now on Cletus The Van Records. Visit: http://avclub.com Like: http://www.fb.com/theavclub Follow: http://www.twitter.com/theavclub

The A.V. Club Hosted By John Teti is a weekly series on Fusion TV. This well done special episode devotes the whole half-hour to John Teti's behind-the-scenes look at The Price Is Right as it enters its 46th season. The A.V. Club airs Thursdays at 9 PM ET on Fusion TV. http://http://fusion.net/
In a recent interview with The A.V. Club, director Edgar Wright and the cast of Baby Driver showed off their film trivia skills. Jon Hamm, Eiza González, and Ansel Elgort combine strengths to take down Wright but prove to be no match for the director’s cinema knowledge. Wright even takes the opportunity to correct our own Alex McLevy on one of his questions. Clearly, we’re all out of our depths. The ice cream-related attack you're about to witness—or maybe just witnessed—was not planned in advance, though it looks perfectly staged. We had legendary noise-rock band The Melvins out in Chicago's beautiful Humboldt Park, and yes, we had the spankin' new Jeni's ice cream truck set up as the backdrop. But the audience, and Buzz Osborne's unleashing of the word "free"—that was just the beautiful hand of fate. The song they covered seemed perfectly inappropriate for the occasion: It's "Graveyard" by Butthole Surfers, and that's Surfers bassist Jeff Pinkus rocking out alongside Buzz, Dale Crover, and Coady Willis. A new Melvins album featuring original drummer Mike Dillard—Tres Cabrones—will be out in November. Enjoy this beautiful, innocent mayhem. Subscribe to The Onion on YouTube: ht...
Welcome back to AVC Sessions. This week, we’re getting a taste of Michelle Zauner’s solo project, Japanese Breakfast. A.V. The premise is dead simple: For each Session, we’ll bring in an artist, band, musician, singer, rapper, etc. to perform three of their own tracks. We kicked off this season of A.V. Undercover about two months ago with a fresh look, complete with a brand new set, fun mood lighting, and a custom neon sign. It didn’t take long, however, for things to come crashing down. When covering Fugazi’s beloved “Waiting Room,” Seattle indie rock band Minus The Bear committed completely to the performance, disregarding their surroundings, delivering a first-rate cover to add to their expansive catalog, and, in the process, destroying our Undercover sign. When we put Coldplay’s “Clocks” on this year’s Undercover list, we figured we’d get some pretty, emotive cover of the British group’s megahit. What we got, instead, was Cloud Nothings’ version of a sonic art project. As you’ll see in the clip, the group weaves together the actual melody of “Clocks” with animal sounds, deep fuzz, copious amounts of smoke, and a lot of dissonance for its version of the cut. We’re not sure if it’s a cover, per se, but it’s intriguing to watch all the same. Cloud Nothings’ latest record, Life Without Sound, is out now on Carpark Records. Wednesday, day number one has arrived
The club opens up at 9
Big Klaus is bouncing all around
An extreme fight crowns the night
Thursday night the second day of action
The happy hour is a must
While Friday night comes psycho crazy
Maniacs to turn your face around
All shrinks are insane
The club is in my veins
Morals and values of the crazy minds
The outsider is the society
We tear it off the ground
Hey, hey, join the club of monstrous action
Hey, hey, you may talk to special people
Hey, hey, have some vodka lemon there
Hey, hey, relax in the living room with K2
Saturday, Dr. Oetker's pack attacks
And is rioting for free speech
Hassan, the Morroccan warrior
Goes off to battle with his club
The final day of ravage which lead to total chaos
Is Sunday's holy jazz hour
The holy man Ulf sends his blessings for the world
Peace, hand in hand we dance and shout
We are the anarchist
