A roof /ˈruf/ is part of a building envelope. It is the covering on the uppermost part of a building or shelter which provides protection from animals and weather, notably rain or snow, but also heat, wind and sunlight. The word also denotes the framing or structure which supports that covering.
The characteristics of a roof are dependent upon the purpose of the building that it covers, the available roofing materials and the local traditions of construction and wider concepts of architectural design and practice and may also be governed by local or national legislation. In most countries a roof protects primarily against rain. A verandah may be roofed with material that protects against sunlight but admits the other elements. The roof of a garden conservatory protects plants from cold, wind, and rain, but admits light.
A roof may also provide additional living space, for example a roof garden.
Roof derives from the ancient Greek word orofi (roof; οροφή) from the verb erefo (to cover; to cover with a roof; ερέφω / ερέπτω).
Jesus Culture is an international Christian revivalist youth outreach ministry that was formed at the Bethel Church of Redding, California. Jesus Culture Ministry hosts conferences and operates a record label, Jesus Culture Music, to share its message and spread worship. In 2013 Jesus Culture moved to plant a church in Sacramento. Meetings started on September 14, 2014.
In late 1999, when the youth group at Bethel Church in Redding, California, led by youth pastor Banning Liebscher, launched the first Jesus Culture conference. Tony Cummings, music editor of Cross Rhythms, described the ministry as "one of the most significant Christian movements in post-war America".
According to Jesus Culture's website, "The heart of these gatherings was to serve other churches and lead young people to experience the radical love of God."
In 2013 Jesus Culture moved to Sacramento to plant a church, and meetings started at Folsom High School on September 14, 2014.
Growing from the original conference in Redding, the organization now hosts annual conferences in Redding, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas, Cleveland, and locations in Australia and the United Kingdom. The conferences bring thousands of young people from around the world to the host cities.
A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.
Rooftop Films is a non-profit film organization based in Gowanus, Brooklyn. It is best known for its Rooftop Films Summer Series, a film festival that runs from May through August every year, and consists of as many as 47 outdoor screenings of new independent short and feature-length films. Rooftop screenings all take place on rooftops or in other outdoor locations throughout New York City. Rooftop also offers film and video equipment rentals throughout the year, as well as grants which help fiance new independent film projects.
Founded by Mark Elijah Rosenberg in 1997, the festival included one night of short film screenings in each of its first two years. Rooftop moved in 1998 to the roof of Peter's Car Corp. a 10,000-square-foot (930 m2) artists' loft and occasional event space located at 265 McKibbin Street. An all-volunteer staff that included Rosenberg, Joshua Breitbart and Moira Griffin helped Rooftop expand from one screening a summer to more than 12 a summer by 2002. In 2003, Rosenberg became Rooftop's first full-time employee as Artistic Director, while former volunteers Dan Nuxoll and Sarah Palmer became part-time employees as the Program Director and Festival Director, respectively. That year, Rooftop moved its offices and event space a few blocks down the street to Office Ops.

ONCE IT STARTED IT COULD NOT END OTHERWISE (Kelly Sears | Houston, Texas | 7 min.) The music I wrote in 2008 in part thinking of Koyaanisqatsi. The footage I collected this year - all from the rooftop of my workplace. Marrying the two together came by chance during the editing process - and it worked. Shot on a Panasonic HVX200, in 1080 mode using the interval recording function. Rate of recording was 1 shot in every 4 or 8 fps. The soft focus look I added afterwards - it ain´t genuine tilt shift - but I did shoot with that in mind and have applied a filter made for that look.
PARALLEL AVENUE is an intimate look at five women struggling to come to terms with Los Angeles. This is the city like you've never seen it, told through the maddening and sometimes inspiring relationships these women experience. The dialogue in the film is based on original poetry reflecting different areas and aspects of LA. The scenes were shot on location in all natural light using the Panasonic AF-100 and Zeiss lenses. "This is a very personal picture and one that will resonate with many Angelenos." - Jim Gilbert (www.curatingla.com) Written and Directed by Leor Baum Cinematography by Sebastien Hameline Produced by Leor Baum and Michael Schindler Original Music by Ben Kass Starring Kesia Elwin, Ann Song, Sarah Schulte, Brittany Hopkins, and Nikole Howell Find extras on the f...
Ashley from the fabric department gets a bit of a surprise when she goes to the roof for a company photo.
When I see your picture my heart forms a fissure
I guess that I get this way
I need a rooftop I can look from or jump off
I guess that I get this way
What's the problem, dear? Are you feeling unloved?
That's what I was most afraid of
I need a fresh arm I can slice up or cut off
I guess that I get this way
When my skies are crooked my scars turn blue
