Bologna (/bəˈloʊnjə/ bə-LOHN-yə; Italian pronunciation: [boˈloɲɲa]; Emilian: Bulåggna, pronounced [buˈlʌɲːa]; Latin: Bononia) is the largest city (and the capital) of the Emilia-Romagna Region in Italy. It is the seventh most populous city in Italy, located in the heart of a metropolitan area (officially recognized by the Italian government as a città metropolitana) of about one million.
The first settlements date back to at least 1000 BC. The city has been an urban centre, first under the Etruscans (Velzna/Felsina) and the Celts (Bona), then under the Romans (Bononia), then again in the Middle Ages, as a free municipality (for one century it was the fifth largest European city based on population). Home to the oldest university in the world,University of Bologna, founded in 1088, Bologna hosts thousands of students who enrich the social and cultural life of the city. Famous for its towers and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical centre (one of the largest in Italy) thanks to a careful restoration and conservation policy which began at the end of the 1970s, on the heels of serious damage done by the urban demolition at the end of the 19th century as well as that caused by wars.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
The New York Times (sometimes abbreviated to NYT) is an American daily newspaper, founded and continuously published in New York City since September 18, 1851, by the New York Times Company. It has won 117 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other news organization.
The paper's print version has the second-largest circulation, behind The Wall Street Journal, and the largest circulation among the metropolitan newspapers in the United States. It is ranked 39th in the world by circulation. Following industry trends, its weekday circulation has fallen to fewer than one million daily since 1990. Nicknamed for years as "The Gray Lady", The New York Times has long been regarded within the industry as a national "newspaper of record". It is owned by The New York Times Company. Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. – whose family (Ochs-Sulzberger) has controlled the paper for five generations, since 1896 – is both the paper's publisher and the company's chairman. Its international version, formerly the International Herald Tribune, is now called the International New York Times.

Imagine a place where you can experience the essence of "Made in Italy": culture, food, music and motors. Imagine starting your day somewhere in Bologna: in a square having a capuccino, in a pasta shop making fresh pasta with a sfoglina, on the hills taking a stroll or in a motor factory feeling the vibe of engine… Imagine walking in that protected path made of porticoes, or biking down the medieval streets, entering in a library, a museum, climbing towers or having fun in a park… And now imagine ending your day sitting and relaxing in a bar or a restaurant enjoying the warm atmosphere, going to a concert, the opera or watching a movie under a blanket of stars… If you imagine a place you can go there. #BolognaYourDestination bolognawelcome.com --- Commissioned by Bologna Welcome Pr...

Bologna was a very pleasant surprise. A wonderful medieval city, less well known among foreign visitors. Bologna is a gorgeous Northern Italian city, famed for the oldest university in the Western world, its cuisine, typical brick terracotta-roofed architecture and porticos. It is a must see!

Take a tour of Italian Town of Bologna in Bologna, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. One of the most popular cities in Italy for history, food, and beauty is Bologna. Nearly the entire city is built using a warm red stone, giving it a unified appearance and the nickname "the red one". One of Bologna's famous features is the twenty-eight miles of old porticoes that run throughout the city. It boasts the second largest historical center in Europe, containing medieval churches, and the world's oldest university. The streets of the city frequently open up into beautiful plazas, which are a common gathering place for Bologna's residents. The best view of the city can be gained from the top of the Asinelli Tower, which is nearly 3...

You can read the whole post on http://gracefullyglobal.wordpress.com/2013/04/28/we-3-bologna/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Lena and I are thrilled to introduce our first of a series of videos about our travels around Europe and afar! Our adventures aren't the same without you guys to share all of our stories with. :) Bologna is not the most famous city in Italy. It has no world-famous monuments or museums. There are no destination resorts or breathtaking seaside. But Bologna is our home. And we love it. For good reasons I might add. Actually, for reasons so significant they beg the question: What makes a city famous? And what should make a city famous? Is what we need for living so different from what we want when we travel? We think no. Because if th...

In July 2013, Sona and I flew to Bologna, Italy to meet up with my old friend Matteo and tour the region. Matteo was very generous and eager in being our guide. We shot some video of the tour and had a little play around in trying to create a bit of a story to the tour. Hopefully the video adequately represents how cool Bologna is and how much fun we had being there.
F.Guccini
Bologna per me provinciale Parigi in minore,
mercati all'aperto, bistrot, della "rive gauche" l'odore.
benessere, ville, gioielli e salame in vetrina
Bologna bambina perbene, Bologna busona.
Bologna ombelico di tutto, mi spingi a un singhiozzo e ad un rutto
