Art explains how the current glut of oil created by the US shale boom -- along with high crude output by both OPEC and non-OPEC producers -- is a temporary anomaly. Fundamentally, we are not finding nearly as much oil as we need to continue the trajectory of our demand curve. And at the same time, we're extracting our reserves at a faster rate than ever. That's a mathematical recipe for a coming supply crunch. It's not a matter of if, but when.

Since March 2017, to present, the oil price (both WTI and Brent Crude prices) is in a pronounced downtrend making lower highs. Oil prices in WTI are down from $55/barrel down to $43/barrel in only a few months!
The 2 main reasons that the oil price is down so much in only a few months, according to Jason, is that 1) the global economy is slowing down even further and demand is weakening and 2) there's been a very large supply increase the last 2 years in annual global oil supply almost entirely from US Permian Basin shale oil producers.
Yet, hardly anyone is talking about it. Despite the oil price going down so much, the US Rig Count continues to stay high and has increased in 2017!
Hedge funds long Permian Basin pure play oil producers are now starting to sell their positions off and go to the exits. Will they start to pile on shorting the oil market and oil producers as well?

Oil
An oil is any neutral, nonpolar chemical substance that is a viscous liquid at ambient temperatures and is both hydrophobic (immiscible with water, literally "water fearing") and lipophilic (miscible with other oils, literally "fat loving"). Oils have a high carbon and hydrogen content and are usually flammable and slippery.
The general definition of oil includes classes of chemical compounds that may be otherwise unrelated in structure, properties, and uses. Oils may be animal, vegetable, or petrochemical in origin, and may be volatile or non-volatile. They are used for food, fuel, lubrication, and the manufacture of paints, plastics, and other materials. Specially prepared oils are used in some religious ceremonies as purifying agents.
Etymology
First attested in English 1176, the word oil comes from Old French oile, from Latin oleum, which in turn comes from the Greek ἔλαιον (elaion), "olive oil, oil" and that from ἐλαία (elaia), "olive tree", "olive fruit". The earliest attested forms of the word are the Mycenaean Greek 𐀁𐀨𐀺, e-ra-wo and 𐀁𐁉𐀺, e-rai-wo, written in the Linear B syllabic script.

Oil platform
An oil platform, offshore platform, or (colloquially) oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, or to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well.
Depending on the circumstances, the platform may be fixed to the ocean floor, may consist of an artificial island, or may float. Remote subsea wells may also be connected to a platform by flow lines and by umbilical connections. These subsea solutions may consist of one or more subsea wells, or of one or more manifold centres for multiple wells.
History
Around 1891, the first submerged oil wells were drilled from platforms built on piles in the fresh waters of the Grand Lake St. Marys (a.k.a. Mercer County Reservoir) in Ohio. The wide but shallow reservoir was built from 1837 to 1845 to provide water to the Miami and Erie Canal.
Around 1896, the first submerged oil wells in salt water were drilled in the portion of the Summerland field extending under the Santa Barbara Channel in California. The wells were drilled from piers extending from land out into the channel.

Since March 2017, to present, the oil price (both WTI and Brent Crude prices) is in a pronounced downtrend making lower highs. Oil prices in WTI are down from $55/barrel down to $43/barrel in only a few months! The 2 main reasons that the oil price is down so much in only a few months, according to Jason, is that 1) the global economy is slowing down even further and demand is weakening and 2) there's been a very large supply increase the last 2 years in annual global oil supply almost entirely from US Permian Basin shale oil producers. Since March 2017, to present, the oil price (both WTI and Brent Crude prices) is in a pronounced downtrend making lower highs. Oil prices in WTI are down from $55/barrel down to $43/barrel in only a few months!
The 2 main reasons that the oil price is down so much in only a few months, according to Jason, is that 1) the global economy is slowing down even further and demand is weakening and 2) there's been a very large supply increase the last 2 years in annual global oil supply almost entirely from US Permian Basin shale oil producers.
Yet, hardly anyone is talking about it. Despite the oil price going down so much, the US Rig Count continues to stay high and has increased in 2017!
Hedge funds long Permian Basin pure play oil producers are now starting to sell their positions off and go to the exits. Will they start to pile on shorting the oil market and oil producers as well?

The areas surrounding Shaddadi has large natural oil reserves, and until recently, ISIS militants profited from it, forcing members of the local population to work in their oil industry. Piles of detailed invoices used by ISIS to calculate daily revenues from selling oil were found on the site. Local residents attested that intermediaries from Raqqa and Aleppo arrived to pick up the oil and often mentioned Turkey, while a captured ISIS recruit admitted on camera that the terrorist group sells oil to Turkey. He and another foreign fighter from Saudi Arabia also revealed that it had been easy to cross the Turkish border.
The documentary contains exclusive footage from towns liberated from ISIS, and features interviews with locals who had worked on ISIS oil refineries as well as testimonies from the ISIS members captured by Kurdish YPG (People's Protection Units) soldiers. An RT Documentary crew filming in northern Syria has seen Islamic State (IS, ISIS/ISIL) documents abandoned by retreating terrorists and found by the Kurds that, along with captured IS recruits, provide a stunning insight into the ISIS oil trade.
Only ten days after the town of Shaddadi in Syrian Kurdistan was liberated from the ISIS militants, an RT Doc film crew followed Kurdish soldiers around houses that had been abandoned in haste by fleeing jihadists. There, they found documents shedding light on the ISIS oil trade, jihadist passports with Turkish entry stamps, an instruction booklet - printed in Turkey - on how to wage war against the Syrian government, and more.

“Into The Atmosphere,” is my tribute to the state of California and the beautiful deserts, mountains and coastlines that exist there. This video showcases a variety of national/state parks as well as less recognized natural areas. The video also focuses on clouds, fog and interesting atmospheric conditions. Although California is known for blue sunshine skies, seeing a colorful storm cloud over Half Dome or an incredible sunset at the La Jolla Coves is really a sight to see. The goal of this video is to show these environments in their best possible light.
Living in California all my life, I had as much time as I needed to really capture the essence and beauty it provides. This video was an ongoing project for about a year with an estimated 75,000 images taken, and about 12,400 made it into the 3.5 minute piece.
My Grandmother Alice Harpin passed away during the last two weeks of shooting this video. The film is dedicated to her memory. Without her and the love of my family this video would not have been possible.
To create this video there were many nights sleeping outside, and many days spent in the wild to embrace the environment and get to know the surroundings. There is a common misconception about Timelapse shooters that we quickly set up cameras and go sleep in the car for hours at a time, which is far from the truth. We are constantly hiking heavy equipment through dangerous areas and spending time camping in uncomfortable situations, I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Some of the locations are Mono Lake, Anza Borrego Desert, Alabama Hills, Trona Pinnacles, Big Sur, Mount Laguna, Santa Maria, Yosemite, Gaviota, The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, La Jolla Coves, Santa Ynez, the San Francisco Coast, and the Santa Barbara Mountains.

And attractive installation with maximum effect. We also created a sophisticated projection mapping installation combining a high level of creativity and technical prowess. We rose up to the challenge and saw these projects through from beginning to end for a very convincing and eye-catching result to the delight of all involved.

I really didn't even put any thought into the timing or editing of this. i just went through the sequences i had, in order, and tossed some music over it. The frames are pretty much un-edited. I think I changed the white balance, and added some sharpness, and that was all. I wish I had an actual video camera, that could capture some of the things I see, when photographing my subjects. Camp Gymnasium organized naked oil wrestling at Burning Man this year – our first time as a theme camp and two successful events! For many, it was the first experience of public nudity, and what a way to try it! Wrestling is very engaging, as it has strong physical and social aspects, only enhanced by nudity. We used sumo rules, which are the easiest to follow from all wrestling types, and added some Greekness to it with olive oil (and nudity), as a reference to the authentic Olympics. Violet is an oversized ghost slug. He is sometimes shown with his lower half buried in the ground. When he is threatened, he exposes his whole body and roars.
🚪 Brown 🚪
Brown is a cloying dung beetle that gathers poop. To him, poop is either his food or his treasure. He hates it when other insects touch his prized poop. He has a long strand of hair on his right cheek.
⚫️ Black ⚫️
Black is a horned atlas beetle that has great strength and is usually punching a cocoon (which he uses as punching bag). He's aggressive and will beat up whoever he thinks is messing with him. In "Hello, Black" he turns out to be a slug wearing beetle armor.
🌈 Rainbow 🌈
Rainbow is a snail with a red and green shell. When in his shell, he's slow in his action, but under that he has a muscular human-like body and can function like humans do.
💟 Pink 💟

At this time U.S. oil rig count cut in half to under 200 from over 400. Today there are under 1,400 and crashing fast from a high of 1,600 in October 2014. There are so many new rigs, if you haven't heard, because of these employed techniques: Horizontal drilling and Hydraulic fracturing. But these methods are used for getting what's known as 'tight' shale oil that costs more to extract. Oh, it's also called 'fracking' as slang.
Remember the headlines, America was supposed to be energy independent by 2030! We were on the path to be the world's top producer by 2016. In fact, if natural gas was included we ARE the world's top producer. Yet, we still import 50% of our consumption. It looks like Chris Martenson was right and shale oil is not the great savior to the American economy so many hoped for. Shale oil is a bubble.

In April 2010 a massive oil spill began in the Gulf. The entire country was glued to the news until the well was capped, and then we forgot about it.
As the year anniversary was approaching I became curious, just how much oil was that exactly? Where would it have gone? What I found was shocking.
So in an effort to further our discussion on oil dependency I created this short animation to help illustrate just how dependent we truly are on oil.

WOW! I'm glad everyone is liking this so much! I really didn't even put any thought into the timing or editing of this. i just went through the sequences i had, in order, and tossed some music over it. The frames are pretty much un-edited. I think I changed the white balance, and added some sharpness, and that was all.
I wish I had an actual video camera, that could capture some of the things I see, when photographing my subjects. IMO the time-lapse looks neat, but does not do it justice.
A lot of people are asking how I did this. It's pretty simple. I just put the camera on its' lowest jpeg setting, placed the camera into continuous mode, and locked the shutter down with my wired remote. The oil is being dumped into a tall cylindrical glass, with about a cup of water in it. The whole thing is lit from behind by a diffused clamp light.

I just put the camera on its' lowest jpeg setting, placed the camera into continuous mode, and locked the shutter down with my wired remote. The oil is being dumped into a tall cylindrical glass, with about a cup of water in it. The whole thing is lit from behind by a diffused clamp light.

It speaks to all avenues of passionate endeavors and the common thread of desire, determination and relentless pursuit it takes to see them through. For many, it was the first experience of public nudity, and what a way to try it! Wrestling is very engaging, as it has strong physical and social aspects, only enhanced by nudity. We used sumo rules, which are the easiest to follow from all wrestling types, and added some Greekness to it with olive oil (and nudity), as a reference to the authentic Olympics.
