Libya

Libya (Arabic: ليبيا‎ Lībiyā) is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. The three traditional parts of the country are Tripolitania, Fezzan and Cyrenaica. With an area of almost 1.8 million square kilometres (700,000 sq mi), Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa, and is the 16th largest country in the world. Libya has the 10th-largest proven oil reserves of any country in the world.

The largest city and capital, Tripoli, is located in western Libya and contains over one million of Libya's six million people. The other large city is Benghazi, which is located in eastern Libya.

Libya has been inhabited by Berbers since the late Bronze Age. The Phoenicians established trading posts in western Libya, and Ancient Greek colonists established city-states in eastern Libya. Libya was variously ruled by Persians, Egyptians and Greeks before becoming a part of the Roman Empire. Libya was an early center of Christianity. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the area of Libya was mostly occupied by the Vandals until the 7th century, when invasions brought Islam and Arab colonization. In the sixteenth century, the Spanish Empire and the Knights of St John occupied Tripoli, until Ottoman rule began in 1551. Libya was involved in the Barbary Wars of the 18th and 19th centuries. Ottoman rule continued until the Italian occupation of Libya resulted in the temporary Italian Libya colony from 1911 to 1943. During the Second World War Libya was an important area of warfare in the North African Campaign. The Italian population then went into decline. Libya became an independent kingdom in 1951.

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is an American politician and former United States Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009. She is the wife of the 42nd President of the United States William "Bill" Jefferson Clinton, and was First Lady of the United States during his tenure from 1993 to 2001. She co-founded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families in 1977, became the first female chair of the Legal Services Corporation in 1978, and was named the first female partner at Rose Law Firm in 1979. While First Lady of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981, and 1983 to 1992, she led a task force that reformed Arkansas' public school system, and served on the board of directors of Wal-Mart among other corporations.

Muammar Gaddafi

Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi (Arabic: معمر محمد أبو منيار القذافي‎; /ˈmoʊ.əmɑːr ɡəˈdɑːfi/; audio ; c. 1942 – 20 October 2011), commonly known as Colonel Gaddafi, was a Libyan revolutionary and politician who governed Libya as its primary leader from 1969 to 2011. Taking power in a coup d'etat, he ruled as Revolutionary Chairman of the Libyan Arab Republic from 1969 to 1977 and then as the "Brotherly Leader" of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 1977 to 2011, when he was ousted in the Libyan Civil War. Initially developing his own variant of Arab nationalism and Arab socialism known as the Third International Theory, he later embraced Pan-Africanism and served as Chairperson of the African Union from 2009 to 2010.

The son of an impoverished Bedouin goat herder, Gaddafi became involved in politics while at school in Sabha, subsequently enrolling in the Royal Military Academy, Benghazi. Founding a revolutionary cell within the military, in 1969 they seized power from the absolute monarchy of King Idris in a bloodless coup. Becoming Chairman of the governing Revolutionary Command Council (RCC), Gaddafi abolished the monarchy and proclaimed the Republic. Ruling by decree, he implemented measures to remove what he viewed as foreign imperialist influence from Libya, and strengthened ties to Arab nationalist governments. Intent on pushing Libya towards "Islamic socialism", he introduced sharia as the basis for the legal system and nationalized the oil industry, using the increased revenues to bolster the military, implement social programs and fund revolutionary militants across the world. In 1973 he initiated a "Popular Revolution" with the formation of General People's Committees (GPCs), purported to be a system of direct democracy, but retained personal control over major decisions. He outlined his Third International Theory that year, publishing these ideas in The Green Book.

1. Libya is Africa's largest exporter of oil, 1.7 million tons a day, which quickly was reduced to 300-400,000 ton due to US-NATO bombing. Libya exports 80% of its oil: 80% of that to several EU lands (32% Italy, 14% Germany, 10% France); 10% China; 5% USA. 2. Gaddafi has been preparing to launch a gold dinar for oil trade with all of Africa's 200 million people and other countries interested. French President Nickola Sarkozi called this, "a threat for financial security of mankind". Much of France's wealth—more than any other colonial-imperialist power—comes from exploiting Africa. 3. Central Bank of Libya is 100% owned by state (since 1956) and is thus outside of multinational corporation control (BIS-Banking International Settlement rules for private interests). The state can finance its own projects and do so without interest rates 4. Gaddafi-Central Bank used $33 billion, without interest rates, to build the Great Man-Made River of 3,750 kilometers with three parallel pipelines running oil, gas and water supplying 70% of the people (4.5 of its 6 million) with clean drinking and irrigation water. 5. The Central Bank also financed Africa's first communication satellite with $300 million of the $377 cost. It started up for all Africa, December 26, 2007, thus saving the 45-African nations an annual fee of $500 million pocketed by Europe for use of its satellites and this means much less cost for telephones and other communication systems.

If Libyans could not find the education or medical facilities they needed, the government funded them to go abroad. For it was not only paid for, but they got a £1585/month for accommodation and car allowance. 8. If a Libyan bought a car, the government used to subsidize 50 percent of the price. 9. The price of petrol in Libya was £0.09 per liter. NINE PENCE!!!!! 10. Libya had no external debt and its reserves amounted to £103 billion -which are now frozen globally. 11. If a Libyan was unable to get employment after graduation, the state would pay the average salary of the profession, as if he or she was employed, until employment was found. 12. A portion of every Libyan oil sale was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens. 13. A mother who gave birth to a child received £3447. 14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya used to cost £0.10. TEN PENCE!!! 15. 25 percent of Libyans now have a university degree. 16. On their way towards their destination, Libya is one of the countries along the Central Mediterranean migration routes that they must travel through… There, some of the people have reported horrific “slave markets” where they are sold for as much as $400, also known as the "Libyan slave trade"… others have reported beatings, mutilations, smuggling, and even sexual abuse while forced to remain in detention centers all across Libya — similar to concentration camps. This is where they remain until they are repatriated back to their home country… Of course, there is much more occurring behind the scenes, and a lot of undocumented cases behind closed doors… According to a UNICEF child alert report released as of Feb. 2017, as of September 2016, an estimated 256,000 migrants have been identified in Libya, of which 28,031 are women (11%) and 23,102 are children (9%), with a third of this group including unaccompanied children. The real figures are believed to be at least three times higher. Over 180,000 migrants attempt to reach Italy, including more than 25,800 children. Trafficked people passing through Libya have previously reported violence, extortion and slave labour. But reports from the International Organization for Migration suggests that the trade in human beings has become so normalized that people are being traded in public. They have no respect for HUMAN LIFE, and have INSULTED me and every fellow American citizen who trusted them. They are so arrogant they continue to show their ugly face in public believing they won't be punished for their many CRIMES and ATROCITIES. If man won't punish them GOD will. Don't assume all Americans are BAD because of a few "EVIL" ones. I'ts VERY OFFENSIVE. America is a diverse country made up of many ethnic groups, cultures, and religions. We don't all agree with every elected official's policies and we have the freedom and the right to express our disapproval without fear of retribution. That's the beauty of America and just one of the reasons the United States is loved and hated by many. People from all over the world risk their lives to come here for the opportunity to make a better life. Make no mistake, the United States is not perfect and isn't an angel. However, I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND I LOVE MY COUNTRY. I sincerely hope that all who see this video wake up to the awful terrible truth. Migrants for Sale: Slave trade in Libya 🇱🇾 | Counting the Cost
The UN-backed government in Libya said it's looking into allegations that African migrants are being sold at 'slave markets' in Libya. According to reports, the trade works by preying on the tens of thousands of vulnerable people who risk everything on what's been described as the deadliest route on earth. They use smartphones to connect with people smugglers to get them to the coast in the hope that they can cross the Mediterranean into Europe. There is no proper registration process for the tens of thousands of refugees arriving in Libya. According to reports, the business of detention centres is unsupervised in some parts of the country and stories of torture, rape and forced labour have emerged. When the centres get too crowded, people are then allegedly sold off like goods in an open market. The International Organization for Migration says trade in humans has become so normalised that people are being bought and sold in public for as little as $400. Mahmoud Abdelwahed reports from a detention centre in the Libyan capital Tripoli. And Leonard Doyle from the International Organization for Migration joins Counting the Cost to discuss Libya's modern-day slavery. "As shocking as it seems, it's indeed true. And the reason it [slave trade] can happen is because there is really no rule of law across much of Libya. Libya is a country as big as France, with a lot of space there. Migrants are coming there.... they see the promise of a new life when they go to their Facebook feed and they think something wonderful is waiting for them in Europe, because a smuggler has abused the system and has sold them that lie," says Doyle. "They get off the bus when they arrive in Libya and they are quickly put into a kind of murder machine, an extortion machine. They are robbed of their possessions, their families are called. They are forced, they are tortured, they give them money. And then they are sold. Unbelievable, but they are sold in open, public auctions: $400 for a labouring man, maybe a bit more for a women who can be put in the sex trade.
