White people

White people is a racial classification specifier, depending on context used for people of Europid ancestry. The contemporary usage of "white people" or a "white race" as a large group of (mainly European) populations contrasting with "black", American Indian, "colored" or non-white originates in the 17th century. It is today particularly used as a racial classifier in multiracial societies, such as the United States (White American), the United Kingdom (White British), Brazil (White Brazilian), and South Africa (White South African). Various social constructions of whiteness have been significant to national identity, public policy, religion, population statistics, racial segregation, affirmative action, white privilege, eugenics, racial marginalization and racial quotas.

The term "white race" or "white people" entered the major European languages in the later 17th century, in the context of racialized slavery and unequal status in European colonies. Description of populations as "white" in reference to their skin color predates this notion and is found in Greco-Roman ethnography and other ancient sources. Scholarship on race generally distinguishes the modern concept from pre-modern descriptions of collective difference.

Roland White

Roland White (born April 23, 1938) is an American bluegrass music artist, performing principally on the mandolin.

Biography

At an early age, White formed himself, his two brothers (Eric and Clarence) and his sister (Joanne) into a bluegrass band which performed locally. When the family moved to California, the group won a talent show on a local radio station, after which a television station hired them (minus Joanne) as The Country Boys.

After a two-year US Army enlistment, White re-joined the Country Boys, now renamed The Kentucky Colonels. In 1967, he had the opportunity to join the Blue Grass Boys, the backup band of his childhood idol Bill Monroe. He stayed with that group until 1969, when he joined the Nashville Grass, the backup band of Lester Flatt. White stayed with Flatt until 1973, when he, Clarence and Eric re-united as The New Kentucky Colonels. This only lasted a few months; he and Clarence were struck by an automobile as they loaded their equipment into their car after a performance. Roland White suffered a dislocated shoulder, but Clarence died in the accident.

Sébastien Pérez

Sébastien Pérez (born 24 November 1973 in Saint-Chamond, Loire) is a French professional football player who started his career for AS Saint-Étienne as a central midfielder.

Pérez signed for Blackburn Rovers from SC Bastia in July 1998 by manager Roy Hodgson at the time, for a fee of £3 million. His stay in East Lancashire was somewhat short, and he only made five appearances for Blackburn. He did, however, manage to score twice for the club; against Chelsea in the league (a game in which he was also sent off) and Lyon in the UEFA Cup.

His career with Blackburn started well, but he suffered a serious injury, and upon return to the squad he struggled regaining his place back in the starting lineup. He was then loaned out and completed a move back to France, where he joined Marseille in June 1999. He was loaned out to Galatasaray for the 2001–02 season, then returned to Marseille until the end of the 2003–04 season, when he was released. He joined FC Istres. For the 2007–08 season, he joined l'US Endoume.
