History of Los Angeles
The History of Los Angeles began in 1781 when 44 settlers from New Spain established a permanent settlement in what is now Downtown Los Angeles, as instructed by Spanish Governor of Las Californias Felipe de Neve and authorized by Viceroy Antonio María de Bucareli. After sovereignty changed from Mexico to the U.S. in 1848, great changes came from the completion of the Santa Fe railroad line from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1885. “Overlanders” flooded in, mostly White Protestants from the Lower Midwest and South.
Los Angeles had a strong economic base in farming, oil, tourism, real estate and movies. It grew rapidly with many suburban areas inside and outside the city limits. Its motion picture industry made the city world-famous, and World War II brought new industry, especially high-tech a...

THE HISTORY OF CALIFORNIA - in 13 Minutes
The first known European to reach the gorgeous coasts of California was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. Cabrillo’s expedition had been launched from modern-day Mexico, known then as the Viceroyalty of New Spain, and ended up in San Diego Bay. The expedition was rather fruitless, however, as Cabrillo failed to discover anything that he viewed as worth the trouble for Spain to colonize. He left, and California remained untouched by European hands. Occasional ships, such as those from the Spanish East Indies traders would at times touch down on California’s coasts, but the idea of colonizing the territory still remained unconsidered. Even when English explorer Francis Drake plundered his way into Oregon and California, claiming the lands for his hom...

The Port of Los Angeles: A History, Part I - From Mudflats to Modern Port (1542-1920)
The Port of Los Angeles: A History is a landmark documentary series, part of an oral history project celebrating the 100th anniversary of the official founding of the Port of Los Angeles by the City of Los Angeles in 1907. Combining rare film and photos with excerpts from more than 100 interviews, this four-part series tells the story of America's busiest port from 1542 to the present, a man-made transformation from isolated mudflats to one of the world's most important harbors. It is also a vivid self-portrait of the people and Port communities of San Pedro and Wilmington, and a timeline for more than 200 years of American economic, political, and social change.
This episode tells how the harbor emerged from an isolated Spanish, then Mexican, trading stop to a booming American harbor.

How Los Angeles Stole Its Water: A Complete History of The Los Angeles Aqueduct
Completed on November 5, 1913, the 233-mile Los Angeles Aqueduct stretches all the way from California’s Owens Valley to the city of Los Angeles – delivering somewhere in the neighborhood of 260-millions gallons of water per day to a thirsty city. The aqueduct stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering might, however, the project set off a decades-long civil war between Owens Valley farmers and Los Angeles. Built to meet the increasing demands of a rapidly growing city, the Los Angeles Aqueduct has a history plagued with deception, corruption, and death.

LOS ANGELES: OLDEST KNOWN PHOTOGRAPHS, A true Old World compilation, Antiquitech, Aqueduct, Tunnels
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.
Today we will take a deep dive (so very deep) into Los Angeles. I was rewatching some of my previous work, and one of my earliest videos (after I began taking this channel seriously) was about Old World California.
However, while entertaining, that video lacked the certain narration and greater direction I like to present in my work.
So, today, we will take a second look at California - more specifically at Tinseltown, The home of Hollywood, The city of Angels, Los Angeles, California.
I’ve scoured the interwebs to find the oldest and most unique photographs of Los Angeles. I focused on locating images of L.A. before WW2, with an extreme focus on images before the year 1900. And oh boy! I’ve collected some very telling photographs.
We will...

In this video, I break down the entire history of the Los Angeles Aqueduct and take a look at the three main people who made it happen: William Mulholland, Frederick Eaton, and Joseph “J.B.” Lippincott. The motivations and decisions of these three men from over 100 years ago allowed Los Angeles to support its exponential population growth, but not without deadly consequences. The St. Francis Dam, completed in 1926, was one of the crown jewels of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. However, just 2 years later in 1928, the dam catastrophically failed, killing at least 431 people. To this day, the St. Francis Dam disaster is considered the worst American civil engineering disasters of the 20th century.
The Los Angeles Aqueduct allowed the city of Los Angeles to become the sprawling metropolis we know today, but the lingering sociopolitical and environmental impacts are hard to overlook.

We will discuss the brief “current narrative” history of Los Angeles, from Native American (and possibly Polynesian?!) occupation in the earliest described times, to the more modern city we see today. For the first portion of the video I will focus on the facts as they are told in the narrative, but the freestyle portion of the video will mainly be off the cuff. I will leave timestamps below for you to browse at your pleasure.
These are some of the most amazing images of any Old World City I have discussed yet. Looking through the architecture, and comparing it to the narrative given, we can find many buildings (and other municipal structures) which appear to predate the narrative structure we have been given.
Today we will break down these images in the best way possible. Please share any thoughts and ideas about Old World Los Angeles in the comments below!

The Hollywood Narrative - 7:50
Los Angeles continues to grow - 8:37
The Earliest Old World Buildings of LA - 9:50
Old World Freestyle Begins (No Written Narrative) Just General Discussion, Beginning with Early Tunnels built through Mounds - 11:08
