The Bohai Sea or Bo Sea, also known as Bohai Gulf or Bo Gulf (渤海, lit. "Bo Sea"), is the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea and Korea Bay on the coast of Northeastern and North China. It is approximately 78,000 km2 (30,116 sq. mi) in area and its proximity to Beijing, the capital of the China (PRC), makes it one of the busiest seaways in the world.
Until the early 20th century, Bo Hai was often called the Gulf of Chihli (直隸海灣 Zhílì Hǎiwān) or the Gulf of Pechihli or Pechili (北直隸海灣 Běizhílì Hǎiwān). Zhili and Beizhili were historic provinces in the area surrounding Beijing.
The Bohai Sea is bounded by the Changshan Islands chain between the Liaodong and Shandong Peninsulas. It has become one of busiest sea routes in recent times. There are three major bays inside the Bohai Sea: Laizhou Bay to the south, Liaodong Bay to the north, and Bohai Bay to the west. At the easternmost end of the Bohai Sea, between the southernmost end of the Liaodong Peninsula and northernmost end of the Shandong Peninsula, is the Bohai Strait (渤海海峡). A few of the rivers entering the gulf include the Yellow, Hai, Liao, and Luan Rivers. There are a few important oil reserves in the vicinity of the gulf, including the Shengli Field. Important island groups or islands in the gulf include the Changshan Islands (长山列岛), Changxing Island (长兴岛), and Xizhong Island (西中岛). The PRC provincial-level divisions that have a Bohai Sea coastline are, from the south, going clockwise: Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, Hebei again, and Liaoning.
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

The Yellow Sea is the name given to the northern part of the East China Sea, which is a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean. It is located between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula. Its name comes from the sand particles from Gobi Desert sand storms that turn the surface of the water golden yellow.
The innermost bay of the Yellow Sea is called the Bohai Sea (previously Pechihli Bay or Chihli Bay). Into it flow both the Yellow River (through Shandong province and its capital Jinan) and Hai He (through Beijing and Tianjin). Deposits of sand and silt from those rivers contribute to the sea colour.
The northern extension of the Yellow Sea is called the Korea Bay.
The Yellow Sea is one of four seas named in English after common colour terms — the others being the Black Sea, the Red Sea and the White Sea.
The International Hydrographic Organization defines the limits of the Yellow Sea (which it also names as "Hwang Hai") as follows:
The Chinese Navy recently conducted a live ammunition drill for a large fleet of naval vessels and aircraft including aircraft carrier Liaoning in the Bohai Sea. The drill, part of the aircraft carrier's overall test and trial, examined its weaponry functions and training quality, reported Xinhua citing naval sources. The only part of the great wall in the sea
An icebreaker of China's State Oceanic Administration started off on a sea ice observation voyage in the Liaodong Bay, northeast China, on Wednesday morning. The vessel, China Coast Guard 1411, nicknamed "ice chaser" because it has undertaken ice observatory missions every December. With a deadweight of 5,000 tons, the ship is operated by a crew of more than 30. "I have my vessel on standby since I was given the task. Once the ice in the sea poses a threat to the safety of navigation and fishery production, we will immediately set off on our observation voyage. The entire voyage usually covers a distance of some 1,200 nautical miles (about 2,222 kilometers) and takes about 10 days," said Li Tao, captain of the icebreaker. Crew members would collect and analyze data on the temperature...
China is building the world’s longest underwater tunnel beneath the Bohai Sea--at 76 miles long it will pass through two deadly earthquake fault zones, will be longer than the current first and second-ranked underwater tunnels combined and will cost $42 billion. China plans to invest 260 billion yuan, or roughly $42 billion, to revive plans to build the world's longest undersea tunnel, according to Reuters. The plan, originally proposed in 1994, would link China's eastern and northeastern regions. The 123-km tunnel running between Dalian in Liaoning province and Yantai in Shandong, would shorten the trip between the two cities from one day to just one hour. Building undersea tunnels typically requires lengthy exploration work as tunnels must run through soil and rock layers of varying hardness. The areas proximity to two earthquake fault zones presents another challenge. The region saw a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occur in the Bohai Sea in 1969 and a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Haicheng in southern Liaoning in 1975. The state media ...
Shorebirds Flock to the Yellow Sea During Migration, Even As Habitat Disappears. Red knots and great knots depend on the tidal mudflats of China's Bohai Bay to rest and refuel during their long-distance migrations. The birds are increasingly competing with development for this vital habitat. The survival of these incredible aerialists hangs in the balance.
Have you ever seen Chinese Ladies in their "modern" swimmsuites? Only 280 Km east of Beijing is Beidahe at the Bohai Sea. There are the nearest beaches for us Beijinger. In summer it is totally overcrowded but now it is simply beautiful.
Because of overfishing, industrial pollution and even oil spills, Bohai sea is no longer reliable for local population. But what else can they do? So many people keep on fishing despite bans and quotas on resource. Just like in this village near Changli, Hebei province. Jordan Pouille China based reporter

In April 2012 I traveled over 150 miles offshore into the Bohai Sea, China with two colleagues and a bunch of deep sea photography equipment. We investigated fractures in the seafloor that were oozing crude oil. We were out to sea for 3 weeks on a 180ft vessel with a crew entirely made up of Chinese nationals. We were very thankful to have a translator to communicate with the captain of the vessel.
While their names sound similar, these two cities in northeast China are totally different. Qingdao’s challenging coastal waters attract legions of windsurfers. Now sailing has become part of the elementary school curriculum. And the owner of an area youth hostel can regularly be seen leading a parade of novice sailors down to Qingdao harbor. There's also an active music and art scene, that's attracted both local and international talent. Nearby is Laoshan Mountain, one of the ancestral homes of Taoism. No cut-off jeans or fashionable haircuts here. Instead, chanting monks repeat rituals that date back an estimated 1,300 years. Qinhuangdao is considered a “small” city by Chinese standards, given it is home to “only” 700,000 people. The history of this city is also connected to...
Each year Tianjin International Fellowship joins with the Mandarin Language overseas Chinese Fellowship to hold a Baptismal Service at the Sheraton Hotel on Easter Sunday. We feel it so appropriate to celebrate the "new life" these individuals illustrate through their baptisms on the same day we celebrate Christ's victory over sin and death. This year nine persons were baptized. Immediately after the Baptismal, the whole fellowship has a breakfast together and then are bused over to our normal meeting location, King Hall Hotel. Tianjin International Christian Fellowship is an Interdenominational group represented by people from over fifty countries who meet together and encourage one another to grow in faith and christian discipleship. Tianjin City in China Tianjin is a major port city in northeastern China. Following the 1858 Treaties of Tianjin, several Western nations established concessions in Tianjin. The European-style houses, municipal buildings and churches in Wudadao (Five Great Avenues) are legacies of that period. Standing in contrast are the city’s many modern skyscrapers, including the iconic 415m-tall Tianjin Radio and Television Tower. As if a sorry thing
If there was an undoing
Of you to be
What cause to bring
An opening heart
A craven soulless ring
A valencian bell
No passing of the lote tree
Undone and away with you
You long road wither flaunt
Your pearls bouncing plasticine
A knowledge ever to haunt
