Dublin (/ˈdʌblᵻn/, Irish: Baile Átha Cliath [blʲaːˈklʲiəh]) is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Dublin is in the province of Leinster on Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River Liffey. The city has an urban area population of 1,273,069. The population of the Greater Dublin Area, as of 2011, was 1,801,040 persons.
Founded as a Viking settlement, the Kingdom of Dublin became Ireland's principal city following the Norman invasion. The city expanded rapidly from the 17th century and was briefly the second largest city in the British Empire before the Acts of Union in 1800. Following the partition of Ireland in 1922, Dublin became the capital of the Irish Free State, later renamed Ireland.
Dublin is administered by a City Council. The city is listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as a global city, with a ranking of "Alpha-", placing it among the top thirty cities in the world. It is a historical and contemporary centre for education, the arts, administration, economy and industry.

Despite a long and sometimes tragic history of invasion and resistance, this thriving business capital has poetry, music and literature percolating through its cobblestones. Dubliner, Oscar Wilde once said “life is too important to be taken seriously.” While Dublin proudly honours its past, it is equally passionate about enjoying each and every new day. Nowhere is life celebrated more than in the city’s nearly 700 pubs. Nothing matters more to Dubliners than having a good time or, as locals call it, the craic. Of all the gifts, Dublin has given to the world, perhaps the most intoxicating are its stories. Originally built for the sons of the Irish gentry, the ivy-covered stone buildings of Trinity College are home to some of the oldest remaining manuscripts in the world, including the 100...

So this week we're excited to be exploring Dublin and we're planning to spend an entire week here. This video is going to highlight 25 things to do around the city. Dublin is where most trips in Ireland begin, so before seeing the rest of the country, Audrey and I spent a whole week getting to know the capital. When the weather cooperated we walked around the city, toured Trinity College, and visited the botanical gardens, and when it poured rain as it often does in this part of the world, we just popped into a pub for some Irish stew and a pint of Guinness. The following video will show you a few of the different things to do in Dublin, Ireland. Travel video about destination Dublin in Ireland. Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic and is a city of musicians, poets and dreamers. Its Georgian buildings, whisky distilleries and historic castles are tangible and colorful reminders of bygone times. Numerous well preserved buildings, cafes, churches and idyllic canals also add to the captivating atmosphere of this fun loving city. One of the city's main landmarks is a splendid structure, Halfpenny Bridge, which derived its name due to a toll that was once extracted from those who crossed it. Dublin Castle is one of the city's oldest buildings. It has seen much transformation and is a combination of several building styles. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for 700 years and under King Henry VI...

I begin by visiting an international graffiti festival, move on to listen to some local music at a private show, then finish off by heading north to the town of Malahide to visit a famed castle and to take in some incredible views of the Irish coastline.
Dublin is one of the world's most popular travel destinations, and a few days spent there shows why. In Part One of my travel guide to Dublin, I tour the city's number one attraction, the Guinness Storehouse, go in search of the bar that serves the best pint, visit prestigious Trinity College, and head out into the famed nightlife that is Dublin after dark.

Sankha Guha (www.sankhaguha.com) and Magenta Devine present. Programme as broadcast. First transmitted on BBC2 in 1988 - the third episode in Series 1 BUT the first programme to be recorded. Dublin was in effect the pilot for the show and set the template for the many Rough Guide series to follow. This is the real thing. Do not confuse with a witless Ch 5 attempted 'remake' bearing the same name - which had nothing to do with the original ground breaking Rough Guide series on BBC2. This is what they say about the original Rough Guide TV series: "Sankha and Magenta made an effective duo, sweeping round the continent with just the right amount of knowing humour and flair and unafraid to jump from the most serious to the most trivial of topics in seconds."
