I think that the comments to the post on the slackbastard site itself are pretty insightful. People seem to be queuing up to align Loughner with their political opponents and I think that's fairly predictable. These National Anarchists (sic) seem to link to a lot of different websites (they wear a big hat) but I suspect they're actually pretty limited in terms of their numbers and their organisation. Nevertheless, I hope that our comrades on the non-aligned left will join us in being able to separate them out from the genuine anarchist movement itself - not use them as an opportunity to make political mileage. Solidarity.
I think the main issue is that journalists have assumed that anyone who can burn the flag can't be coming from the right, whereas actually there are many strains of ultra-right, fascist ideology (not only National Anarchism) that are not nationalistic in the traditional sense. While American fascism was traditionally patriotic, the decades since Rockwell's death have seen growing numbers of the American extreme-right turn against the government, the state and the flag.
