The Virginia Tech Hokies are the athletic teams officially representing Virginia Tech in college sports. The Hokies participate in the NCAA's Division I Atlantic Coast Conference in 19 varsity sports. Virginia Tech's men's sports are football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and wrestling. Virginia Tech's women's sports are basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Although Virginia Tech is still seeking its first national title in a varsity sport, it has won a national championship in bass fishing as well as in individual track and field events. However, the men's basketball team has won the 1995 and 1973 NIT titles. In addition, the undefeated Hokies football team played Florida State in the 2000 Sugar Bowl for the 1999 National Championship championship game, but lost to the Seminoles 46-29.
Virginia Tech's sports teams are called the "Hokies". The word "hokie" originated in the "Old Hokie" spirit yell created in 1896 by O.M. Stull for a contest which was held to select a new spirit yell when the college's name was changed from Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College to Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute and the original spirit yell, which referred to the old name, was no longer usable. Stull's yell won, and he received the $5 award.
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech, is a public, land-grant, research university with a main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, educational facilities in six regions statewide, and a study-abroad site in Switzerland. The commonwealth's third-largest university and its leading research institution, Virginia Tech offers 225 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to some 29,373 students and manages a research portfolio of US$513 million. The university fulfills its land-grant mission of transforming knowledge to practice through technological leadership and by fueling economic growth and job creation locally, regionally, and across Virginia.
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors, which serves as the university's governing body, comprises 13 members who are appointed by the governor of Virginia; the president of the state's Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services serves ex-officio as the 14th voting member. Serving as non-voting representatives are the presidents of the university's Faculty Senate and Staff Senate, who serve ex-officio, and an undergraduate student and a graduate student selected through a competitive review process. The endowment is managed by the Virginia Tech Foundation, and as of 2015 topped US$817.8 million.
The Miami Hurricanes (known informally as UM or UMiami) are the varsity sports teams of the University of Miami, located in the Coral Gables suburb of Miami, Florida. They compete in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The university fields 15 athletic teams for 17 varsity sports. Men's teams compete in baseball, basketball, cross-country, diving, football, tennis, and track and field. Women's teams compete in basketball, cross-country, swimming and diving, golf, rowing, soccer, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. UM has approximately equal participation by male and female varsity athletes in these sports.
Team colors are green, orange, and white. The school mascot is Sebastian the Ibis. The ibis was selected as the school's mascot because, according to university legend, it is the last animal to flee an approaching hurricane and the first to reappear after the storm, making it a symbol of leadership and courage. The school's athletics logo is a simple green and orange, color of an orange tree, letter "U." The school's marching band is the Band of the Hour.

Bud Foster (born July 28, 1959) is a college football coach and former player. He is the current associate head coach, linebackers coach, and defensive coordinator for the Virginia Tech team. Following the 2006 season, he received the Frank Broyles Award, which is annually given to the top assistant coach in college football. Foster indicated interest in the head coaching vacancy at West Virginia University after the 2007 season and most recently in the head coaching position at Clemson University in the middle of the 2008 season. Foster's 2005 and 2006 Hokie defenses led the nation in total defense.
Foster went to high school in Nokomis, Illinois. A 1981 graduate of Murray State University, Foster played strong safety and outside linebacker from 1977 to 1980.
Foster began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Murray State in 1981, Frank Beamer's first season as the head coach. After two years as a graduate assistant, Foster was elevated to a full-time staff position. He coached outside linebackers for three seasons before taking over the inside and outside linebackers in 1986. He also served as the Racers' recruiting coordinator and worked with special teams.

Paranoia rips through my head
Wonder what it’s like to be dead
Intense hatred all about
Left alone to figure it out
Truth and justice just a joke
Entire system just a hoax
Weakening with insecurity
No such thing as racial purity
Life and death become a game
Live or die it’s all the same
Lost my sense of morality
Got no place in reality
Got no point of reference
Got no religious preference
Must have really lost my mind
Time to leave this world behind
Heard too many lies
Afraid to close my eyes
Just don’t know what’s real
What’s the fucking deal?
Total darkness without a clue
Not much choice what can I do
Used to believe now I don’t
Make a difference you know I won’t
Product of my environment
Won’t live to see retirement
Fight while I’m still young and bold
Probably die before I’m old
With my back against the wall
What to do can’t take a fall
The heaviness is pressing down
Trying to force me to the ground
Can’t give up must somehow win
Can’t go through this hell again
Have to give it one more try
One more time before I die
Heard too many lies
Afraid to close my eyes
Just don’t know what’s real
What’s the fucking deal?
I can’t believe what I see
Only my thoughts are free
