9. Bullet Ant
Known as the World’s Most Painful Insect, getting bitten by a bullet ant is something you never want to experience. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the small but powerful bullet ant is also known as the hormiga veinticuatro meaning the “24-hour ant” which refers to the full day of pain that follows after being stung. Only a little over an inch in length, it is hard to believe that their sting can feel like getting shot with a bullet.
Dr. Justin Schmidt, an entomologist and research director of the Southwest Biological Institute in Tucson Arizona, invented the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (SSPI) which categorizes the level of pain felt when stung by wasps, bees, and ants. He let himself get stung by all kinds of insects in order to rank their sting. He said that it really felt like getting hit by a bullet with waves of burning pain that were absolutely excruciating and went on for hours. The good thing is that it is a localized effect and this sting does not directly affect your heart or lungs, so you won’t die from it but it will hurt like a bi-atch. These ants are greatly feared across the rainforest by people and animals alike. However there are several indigenous tribes that use these ants in their initiation rituals. Young boys wishing to be seen as men by the tribes must endure placing their hand in a woven glove filled with these ants. They must endure getting stung repeatedly for at least ten minutes. If that wasn't enough, the boy must sometimes go through over a dozen of these rituals! None of them suffer long term effects although the trauma may last forever.
8. Japanese Giant Hornets
The highly aggressive and territorial Japanese giant hornets are infamous for their painful sting and fearsome nature. A subspecies of the Asian giant hornet, these monsters are much larger than normal hornets and are known to hunt and consume up to 50 unfortunate honey bees a day. As if honey bees didn’t already have enough problems…
The creatures which are rapidly becoming a pest have now made nests in France and England and due to poor shipping practices, are spreading across the globe. Their venom is known to destroy red blood cells and those with allergic reactions are especially at risk of death. The Japanese giant hornets kill 30-40 people in Japan alone every year, and send hundreds to hospital. Its venom attacks the nervous system and damages the tissue of its victims. The stings can also cause renal failure. The giant hornets are attracted to human sweat, alcohol, and sweet flavors and smells. They are especially sensitive when animals or people run and they will start to swarm and attack. Some victims have required hundreds of stitches and numerous dialysis treatments to survive and are still are left with deep scars. These hornets have lead to government initiatives to destroy the nests in Japan and China, and maybe they have the right idea? These aggressive insects are pretty scary.

Bugs serve multiple purposes on this planet. From pollinating plants to stinging and scaring the living daylights out of people, humans have a love/hate relationship with bugs. We need bugs to make the world go around, but at the same time, people would rather not deal with bugs especially if they bite, sting, or chase after you. It seems that the one common fear that mankind seems to share is the fear of some sort of bug, with spiders being the most common fear known as arachnophobia. The largest bugs in the world were known as the Protodonata, and they lived during the prehistoric period in the Paleozoic Era. They were large, dragon-fly like creatures who ruled the skies and plant life. They would be sure to put a scare in us all if we were to see them today.
As our existence continues to evolve and innovations in travel make it more possible to explore every nook and cranny in the world, more bugs have been found than ever before. In the early 20th century, the discovery of bugs such as the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing incited fear and made people use guns to take it out of the sky. Turns out that this particular bug is the largest butterfly in the world with a wingspan of over one foot, enough to put a scare into anyone. There is a trend known as “island gigantism” where animals and bugs are found to be much larger on remote islands than one mass spaces of land like a continent. The giant weta is a perfect example of island gigantism, as it is the largest weta in the species and puts its relatives to shame.
A few years ago, a photo of a group of Marines from the United States in Afghanistan shocked the world and sent arachnophobes into high alerts when people saw the massively large camel spider. The story behind the photo was that the camel spider could disembowel camels, crawl into sleeping bags, and run at high speeds. Well, thankfully, the story was just rumor and speculation, and the camel spider wasn’t really as massively large as the photo made it look. But the story was enough to inspire people to do their own research on the largest bugs in the world, and the results do not disappoint. In fact, the results may just downright scare you into wanting to stay indoors for the rest of your life.
This video includes some of the largest bugs in the world. Some of them are so big that you have to wonder whether there was a chemical spill nearby to spawn these mutant-looking bugs. Whether you are enjoying this video from the Amazon, or in the comfort of your home in the suburbs, take caution next time you go outside. Luckily, just because a bug is large, it doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or poisonous. Take heed, and maybe if you spot a giant weta, you can give it a carrot to enjoy.

# 6 Denkimushi - Electric bug
This bug looks like a cuddly decorative pillow that would make for a very cute decorative pet. Well, it would if you could touch it. This squishy looking bug is called the Denkimushi, which means Electric Bug in Japanese. It’s not just a cheeky name, either. If you so much as poke any of the bug’s barbs you would feel an electric shock. Denkimushi’s barbs secrete a unique toxin that mimics the feeling of electrocution!
# 5 Giant Huntsman Spider
When measured by leg span, Huntsman spiders are the biggest in the world. The Giant Huntsman has a diameter of 12 inches, usually described as big as a dinner plate. These spiders don’t create equally large spider webs to catch prey in though, they hunt them down by hand. They can run up to a yard a second at their highest speeds and use that to their advantage. In some parts of the world they’re known for sneaking into people's houses and cars and hiding underneath pillows and sun visors. It’s not hard to imagine them jumping onto your head and eating your face. They’re also pretty social, so if you find one of these foot long spiders lying around, you might just find 12 more nearby.
# 4 Mites
Mites are pretty gross already, but they might be worse than you thought. Most animals, including both humans and bugs, want to get rid of a mite infestation as soon as possible. For some reason, the Giant Hercules beetle wears them like a giant oversized coat. The mites ride on the beetle which takes them to dead carcasses for them to feast on. The beetle doesn’t gain much from this, in fact they usually get extremely slowed down and are incapable of flight because the mites get so heavy. If the beetle doesn’t find a food source for them soon enough the mites will overwhelm it and make it incapable of moving at all, until finally they eat the beetle itself. Imagine wearing a coat made of living bugs that would kill and eat you if you didn’t feed it in time. Nature is so beautiful.
# 3 Africanized Honey Bee
Why must humans try and play God? The Africanized Honeybee is a direct result of human intervention - it's a crossbreed between the European honeybee and the African Bee but the combination of the two is not what we expected it to be. Africanized Honeybees are extremely aggressive. If you linger near their hive for more than half a second they will assume you’re there to attack them and will retaliate. It’s not just a few soldier bees trying to chase you off either, it's the entire hive. Almost the whole colony, upwards of tens of thousands of bees, will swarm you until you’re covered completely in them, feeling hundreds of stings a second.
# 2 Giant Centipede
Bugs have a bad rep. A lot of them are disproportionately crushed and squashed just because we think they look scary and gross when they’re usually harmless. Well that’s not the case with Giant Centipedes. These alien looking monsters can have anywhere between 42 and 46 legs and use them to run at high speeds. They’ll eat anything from rats to frogs. Some can even jump into the air and catch a bat mid flight for some lunch. Giant Centipedes aren’t only insanely fast, they’re very aggressive and easily agitated. If they feel like they’re being intruded upon, they will just attack you for no reason. If you see one of these multi-legged beasts sprinting your way, it might be best to run too since they’ve got tiny claws on all their legs capable of breaking skin, powerful jaws, and are able to secrete a toxin that will give you a really painful rash.
# 1 Japanese Giant Hornet
Hornets are known for being terrifying plagues on the world, but none are as scary as Japanese Giant Hornets. They are about 3 to 4 inches long, so unlike most bugs you can see every horrible detail on their body very clearly. They have massive mandibles that can easily decapitate most bugs and leave a gnarly mark on human flesh. If that wasn’t enough to terrify you, they can shoot out flesh-melting poison that will leave you blind if it gets in your eyes. If one of them takes a liking to you, they can mark you with pheromones so that all its Giant Hornet friends can find you and swarm onto you too. Wanna try running away? Good luck with that. These bugs can fly 50 miles a day and are pretty fast too.

Bugs Bunny
Bugs Bunny is an animated cartoon character, created by the staff of Leon Schlesinger Productions (later Warner Bros. Cartoons) and voiced originally by the "Man of a Thousand Voices," Mel Blanc. Bugs is best known for his starring roles in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated short films, produced by Warner Bros. during the golden age of American animation. His popularity during this era led to his becoming an American cultural icon, as well as a corporate mascot of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Bugs is an anthropomorphic gray hare or rabbit who is famous for his flippant, insouciant personality; a pronounced New York accent; his portrayal as a trickster; and his catch phrase "Eh... What's up, doc?", usually said while chewing a carrot. Though a similar rabbit character began appearing in the Warner Bros. cartoon shorts during the late 1930s, the definitive character of Bugs Bunny is widely credited to have made his debut in director Tex Avery's Oscar-nominated film A Wild Hare (1940).

Fun

Bullet Ant Known as the World’s Most Painful Insect, getting bitten by a bullet ant is something you never want to experience. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the small but powerful bullet ant is also known as the hormiga veinticuatro meaning the “24-hour ant” which refers to the full day of pain that follows after being stung. Only a little over an inch in length, it is hard to believe that their sting can feel like getting shot with a bullet. Dr. Justin Schmidt, an entomologist and research director of the Southwest Biological Institute in Tucson Arizona, invented the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (SSPI) which categorizes the level of pain felt when stung by wasps, bees, and ants. He let himself get stung by all kinds of insects in order to rank their sting. He said that it really felt like getting hit by a bullet with waves of burning pain that were absolutely excruciating and went on for hours. The good thing is that it is a localized effect and this sting does not directly affect your heart or lungs, so you won’t die from it but it will hurt like a bi-atch. These ants are greatly feared across the rainforest by people and animals alike. However there are several indigenous tribes that use these ants in their initiation rituals. Young boys wishing to be seen as men by the tribes must endure placing their hand in a woven glove filled with these ants. They must endure getting stung repeatedly for at least ten minutes. If that wasn't enough, the boy must sometimes go through over a dozen of these rituals! None of them suffer long term effects although the trauma may last forever. 8. Japanese Giant Hornets The highly aggressive and territorial Japanese giant hornets are infamous for their painful sting and fearsome nature. A subspecies of the Asian giant hornet, these monsters are much larger than normal hornets and are known to hunt and consume up to 50 unfortunate honey bees a day. As if honey bees didn’t already have enough problems… The creatures which are rapidly becoming a pest have now made nests in France and England and due to poor shipping practices, are spreading across the globe. Their venom is known to destroy red blood cells and those with allergic reactions are especially at risk of death. The Japanese giant hornets kill 30-40 people in Japan alone every year, and send hundreds to hospital. Its venom attacks the nervous system and damages the tissue of its victims. The stings can also cause renal failure. The giant hornets are attracted to human sweat, alcohol, and sweet flavors and smells. They are especially sensitive when animals or people run and they will start to swarm and attack. Some victims have required hundreds of stitches and numerous dialysis treatments to survive and are still are left with deep scars. These hornets have lead to government initiatives to destroy the nests in Japan and China, and maybe they have the right idea? These aggressive insects are pretty scary. -

We need bugs to make the world go around, but at the same time, people would rather not deal with bugs especially if they bite, sting, or chase after you. It seems that the one common fear that mankind seems to share is the fear of some sort of bug, with spiders being the most common fear known as arachnophobia. The largest bugs in the world were known as the Protodonata, and they lived during the prehistoric period in the Paleozoic Era. They were large, dragon-fly like creatures who ruled the skies and plant life. They would be sure to put a scare in us all if we were to see them today. As our existence continues to evolve and innovations in travel make it more possible to explore every nook and cranny in the world, more bugs have been found than ever before. In the early 20th century, the discovery of bugs such as the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing incited fear and made people use guns to take it out of the sky. Turns out that this particular bug is the largest butterfly in the world with a wingspan of over one foot, enough to put a scare into anyone. There is a trend known as “island gigantism” where animals and bugs are found to be much larger on remote islands than one mass spaces of land like a continent. The giant weta is a perfect example of island gigantism, as it is the largest weta in the species and puts its relatives to shame. A few years ago, a photo of a group of Marines from the United States in Afghanistan shocked the world and sent arachnophobes into high alerts when people saw the massively large camel spider. The story behind the photo was that the camel spider could disembowel camels, crawl into sleeping bags, and run at high speeds. Well, thankfully, the story was just rumor and speculation, and the camel spider wasn’t really as massively large as the photo made it look. But the story was enough to inspire people to do their own research on the largest bugs in the world, and the results do not disappoint. In fact, the results may just downright scare you into wanting to stay indoors for the rest of your life. This video includes some of the largest bugs in the world. Some of them are so big that you have to wonder whether there was a chemical spill nearby to spawn these mutant-looking bugs. Whether you are enjoying this video from the Amazon, or in the comfort of your home in the suburbs, take caution next time you go outside. Luckily, just because a bug is large, it doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or poisonous. Take heed, and maybe if you spot a giant weta, you can give it a carrot to enjoy. Well, it would if you could touch it. This squishy looking bug is called the Denkimushi, which means Electric Bug in Japanese. It’s not just a cheeky name, either. If you so much as poke any of the bug’s barbs you would feel an electric shock. Denkimushi’s barbs secrete a unique toxin that mimics the feeling of electrocution! # 5 Giant Huntsman Spider When measured by leg span, Huntsman spiders are the biggest in the world. The Giant Huntsman has a diameter of 12 inches, usually described as big as a dinner plate. These spiders don’t create equally large spider webs to catch prey in though, they hunt them down by hand. They can run up to a yard a second at their highest speeds and use that to their advantage. In some parts of the world they’re known for sneaking into people's houses and cars and hiding underneath pillows and sun visors. It’s not hard to imagine them jumping onto your head and eating your face. They’re also pretty social, so if you find one of these foot long spiders lying around, you might just find 12 more nearby. # 4 Mites Mites are pretty gross already, but they might be worse than you thought. Most animals, including both humans and bugs, want to get rid of a mite infestation as soon as possible. For some reason, the Giant Hercules beetle wears them like a giant oversized coat. The mites ride on the beetle which takes them to dead carcasses for them to feast on. The beetle doesn’t gain much from this, in fact they usually get extremely slowed down and are incapable of flight because the mites get so heavy. If the beetle doesn’t find a food source for them soon enough the mites will overwhelm it and make it incapable of moving at all, until finally they eat the beetle itself. Imagine wearing a coat made of living bugs that would kill and eat you if you didn’t feed it in time. Nature is so beautiful. # 3 Africanized Honey Bee Why must humans try and play God? The Africanized Honeybee is a direct result of human intervention - it's a crossbreed between the European honeybee and the African Bee but the combination of the two is not what we expected it to be. Africanized Honeybees are extremely aggressive. If you linger near their hive for more than half a second they will assume you’re there to attack them and will retaliate. It’s not just a few soldier bees trying to chase you off either, it's the entire hive. Almost the whole colony, upwards of tens of thousands of bees, will swarm you until you’re covered completely in them, feeling hundreds of stings a second. # 2 Giant Centipede Bugs have a bad rep. A lot of them are disproportionately crushed and squashed just because we think they look scary and gross when they’re usually harmless. Well that’s not the case with Giant Centipedes. These alien looking monsters can have anywhere between 42 and 46 legs and use them to run at high speeds. They’ll eat anything from rats to frogs. Some can even jump into the air and catch a bat mid flight for some lunch. Giant Centipedes aren’t only insanely fast, they’re very aggressive and easily agitated. If they feel like they’re being intruded upon, they will just attack you for no reason. If you see one of these multi-legged beasts sprinting your way, it might be best to run too since they’ve got tiny claws on all their legs capable of breaking skin, powerful jaws, and are able to secrete a toxin that will give you a really painful rash. # 1 Japanese Giant Hornet Hornets are known for being terrifying plagues on the world, but none are as scary as Japanese Giant Hornets. They are about 3 to 4 inches long, so unlike most bugs you can see every horrible detail on their body very clearly. They have massive mandibles that can easily decapitate most bugs and leave a gnarly mark on human flesh. If that wasn’t enough to terrify you, they can shoot out flesh-melting poison that will leave you blind if it gets in your eyes. If one of them takes a liking to you, they can mark you with pheromones so that all its Giant Hornet friends can find you and swarm onto you too. Wanna try running away? Good luck with that. These bugs can fly 50 miles a day and are pretty fast too. -

9. Bullet Ant
Known as the World’s Most Painful Insect, getting bitten by a bullet ant is something you never want to experience. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the small but powerful bullet ant is also known as the hormiga veinticuatro meaning the “24-hour ant” which refers to the full day of pain that follows after being stung. Only a little over an inch in length, it is hard to believe that their sting can feel like getting shot with a bullet.
Dr. Justin Schmidt, an entomologist and research director of the Southwest Biological Institute in Tucson Arizona, invented the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (SSPI) which categorizes the level of pain felt when stung by wasps, bees, and ants. He let himself get stung by all kinds of insects in order to rank their sting. He said that it really felt like getting hit by a bullet with waves of burning pain that were absolutely excruciating and went on for hours. The good thing is that it is a localized effect and this sting does not directly affect your heart or lungs, so you won’t die from it but it will hurt like a bi-atch. These ants are greatly feared across the rainforest by people and animals alike. However there are several indigenous tribes that use these ants in their initiation rituals. Young boys wishing to be seen as men by the tribes must endure placing their hand in a woven glove filled with these ants. They must endure getting stung repeatedly for at least ten minutes. If that wasn't enough, the boy must sometimes go through over a dozen of these rituals! None of them suffer long term effects although the trauma may last forever.
8. Japanese Giant Hornets
The highly aggressive and territorial Japanese giant hornets are infamous for their painful sting and fearsome nature. A subspecies of the Asian giant hornet, these monsters are much larger than normal hornets and are known to hunt and consume up to 50 unfortunate honey bees a day. As if honey bees didn’t already have enough problems…
The creatures which are rapidly becoming a pest have now made nests in France and England and due to poor shipping practices, are spreading across the globe. Their venom is known to destroy red blood cells and those with allergic reactions are especially at risk of death. The Japanese giant hornets kill 30-40 people in Japan alone every year, and send hundreds to hospital. Its venom attacks the nervous system and damages the tissue of its victims. The stings can also cause renal failure. The giant hornets are attracted to human sweat, alcohol, and sweet flavors and smells. They are especially sensitive when animals or people run and they will start to swarm and attack. Some victims have required hundreds of stitches and numerous dialysis treatments to survive and are still are left with deep scars. These hornets have lead to government initiatives to destroy the nests in Japan and China, and maybe they have the right idea? These aggressive insects are pretty scary.

It seems that the one common fear that mankind seems to share is the fear of some sort of bug, with spiders being the most common fear known as arachnophobia. The largest bugs in the world were known as the Protodonata, and they lived during the prehistoric period in the Paleozoic Era. They were large, dragon-fly like creatures who ruled the skies and plant life. They would be sure to put a scare in us all if we were to see them today.
As our existence continues to evolve and innovations in travel make it more possible to explore every nook and cranny in the world, more bugs have been found than ever before. In the early 20th century, the discovery of bugs such as the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing incited fear and made people use guns to take it out of the sky. Turns out that this particular bug is the largest butterfly in the world with a wingspan of over one foot, enough to put a scare into anyone. There is a trend known as “island gigantism” where animals and bugs are found to be much larger on remote islands than one mass spaces of land like a continent. The giant weta is a perfect example of island gigantism, as it is the largest weta in the species and puts its relatives to shame.
A few years ago, a photo of a group of Marines from the United States in Afghanistan shocked the world and sent arachnophobes into high alerts when people saw the massively large camel spider. The story behind the photo was that the camel spider could disembowel camels, crawl into sleeping bags, and run at high speeds. Well, thankfully, the story was just rumor and speculation, and the camel spider wasn’t really as massively large as the photo made it look. But the story was enough to inspire people to do their own research on the largest bugs in the world, and the results do not disappoint. In fact, the results may just downright scare you into wanting to stay indoors for the rest of your life.
This video includes some of the largest bugs in the world. Some of them are so big that you have to wonder whether there was a chemical spill nearby to spawn these mutant-looking bugs. Whether you are enjoying this video from the Amazon, or in the comfort of your home in the suburbs, take caution next time you go outside. Luckily, just because a bug is large, it doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or poisonous. Take heed, and maybe if you spot a giant weta, you can give it a carrot to enjoy.

Bugs serve multiple purposes on this planet. From pollinating plants to stinging and scaring the living daylights out of people, humans have a love/hate relationship with bugs. We need bugs to make the world go around, but at the same time, people would rather not deal with bugs especially if they bite, sting, or chase after you. It seems that the one common fear that mankind seems to share is the fear of some sort of bug, with spiders being the most common fear known as arachnophobia. The largest bugs in the world were known as the Protodonata, and they lived during the prehistoric period in the Paleozoic Era. They were large, dragon-fly like creatures who ruled the skies and plant life. They would be sure to put a scare in us all if we were to see them today.
As our existence continues to evolve and innovations in travel make it more possible to explore every nook and cranny in the world, more bugs have been found than ever before. In the early 20th century, the discovery of bugs such as the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing incited fear and made people use guns to take it out of the sky. Turns out that this particular bug is the largest butterfly in the world with a wingspan of over one foot, enough to put a scare into anyone. There is a trend known as “island gigantism” where animals and bugs are found to be much larger on remote islands than one mass spaces of land like a continent. The giant weta is a perfect example of island gigantism, as it is the largest weta in the species and puts its relatives to shame.
A few years ago, a photo of a group of Marines from the United States in Afghanistan shocked the world and sent arachnophobes into high alerts when people saw the massively large camel spider. The story behind the photo was that the camel spider could disembowel camels, crawl into sleeping bags, and run at high speeds. Well, thankfully, the story was just rumor and speculation, and the camel spider wasn’t really as massively large as the photo made it look. But the story was enough to inspire people to do their own research on the largest bugs in the world, and the results do not disappoint. In fact, the results may just downright scare you into wanting to stay indoors for the rest of your life.
This video includes some of the largest bugs in the world. Some of them are so big that you have to wonder whether there was a chemical spill nearby to spawn these mutant-looking bugs. Whether you are enjoying this video from the Amazon, or in the comfort of your home in the suburbs, take caution next time you go outside. Luckily, just because a bug is large, it doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or poisonous. Take heed, and maybe if you spot a giant weta, you can give it a carrot to enjoy.

# 6 Denkimushi - Electric bug
This bug looks like a cuddly decorative pillow that would make for a very cute decorative pet. Well, it would if you could touch it. This squishy looking bug is called the Denkimushi, which means Electric Bug in Japanese. It’s not just a cheeky name, either. If you so much as poke any of the bug’s barbs you would feel an electric shock. Denkimushi’s barbs secrete a unique toxin that mimics the feeling of electrocution!
# 5 Giant Huntsman Spider
When measured by leg span, Huntsman spiders are the biggest in the world. The Giant Huntsman has a diameter of 12 inches, usually described as big as a dinner plate. These spiders don’t create equally large spider webs to catch prey in though, they hunt them down by hand. They can run up to a yard a second at their highest speeds and use that to their advantage. In some parts of the world they’re known for sneaking into people's houses and cars and hiding underneath pillows and sun visors. It’s not hard to imagine them jumping onto your head and eating your face. They’re also pretty social, so if you find one of these foot long spiders lying around, you might just find 12 more nearby.
# 4 Mites
Mites are pretty gross already, but they might be worse than you thought. Most animals, including both humans and bugs, want to get rid of a mite infestation as soon as possible. For some reason, the Giant Hercules beetle wears them like a giant oversized coat. The mites ride on the beetle which takes them to dead carcasses for them to feast on. The beetle doesn’t gain much from this, in fact they usually get extremely slowed down and are incapable of flight because the mites get so heavy. If the beetle doesn’t find a food source for them soon enough the mites will overwhelm it and make it incapable of moving at all, until finally they eat the beetle itself. Imagine wearing a coat made of living bugs that would kill and eat you if you didn’t feed it in time. Nature is so beautiful.
# 3 Africanized Honey Bee
Why must humans try and play God? The Africanized Honeybee is a direct result of human intervention - it's a crossbreed between the European honeybee and the African Bee but the combination of the two is not what we expected it to be. Africanized Honeybees are extremely aggressive. If you linger near their hive for more than half a second they will assume you’re there to attack them and will retaliate. It’s not just a few soldier bees trying to chase you off either, it's the entire hive. Almost the whole colony, upwards of tens of thousands of bees, will swarm you until you’re covered completely in them, feeling hundreds of stings a second.
# 2 Giant Centipede
Bugs have a bad rep. A lot of them are disproportionately crushed and squashed just because we think they look scary and gross when they’re usually harmless. Well that’s not the case with Giant Centipedes. These alien looking monsters can have anywhere between 42 and 46 legs and use them to run at high speeds. They’ll eat anything from rats to frogs. Some can even jump into the air and catch a bat mid flight for some lunch. Giant Centipedes aren’t only insanely fast, they’re very aggressive and easily agitated. If they feel like they’re being intruded upon, they will just attack you for no reason. If you see one of these multi-legged beasts sprinting your way, it might be best to run too since they’ve got tiny claws on all their legs capable of breaking skin, powerful jaws, and are able to secrete a toxin that will give you a really painful rash.

They are about 3 to 4 inches long, so unlike most bugs you can see every horrible detail on their body very clearly. They have massive mandibles that can easily decapitate most bugs and leave a gnarly mark on human flesh. If that wasn’t enough to terrify you, they can shoot out flesh-melting poison that will leave you blind if it gets in your eyes. If one of them takes a liking to you, they can mark you with pheromones so that all its Giant Hornet friends can find you and swarm onto you too. Wanna try running away? Good luck with that. These bugs can fly 50 miles a day and are pretty fast too.

9. Bullet Ant
Known as the World’s Most Painful Insect, getting bitten by a bullet ant is something you never want to experience. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, the small but powerful bullet ant is also known as the hormiga veinticuatro meaning the “24-hour ant” which refers to the full day of pain that follows after being stung. Only a little over an inch in length, it is hard to believe that their sting can feel like getting shot with a bullet.
Dr. Justin Schmidt, an entomologist and research director of the Southwest Biological Institute in Tucson Arizona, invented the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (SSPI) which categorizes the level of pain felt when stung by wasps, bees, and ants. He let himself get stung by all kinds of insects in order to rank their sting. He said that it really felt like getting hit by a bullet with waves of burning pain that were absolutely excruciating and went on for hours. The good thing is that it is a localized effect and this sting does not directly affect your heart or lungs, so you won’t die from it but it will hurt like a bi-atch. These ants are greatly feared across the rainforest by people and animals alike. However there are several indigenous tribes that use these ants in their initiation rituals. Young boys wishing to be seen as men by the tribes must endure placing their hand in a woven glove filled with these ants. They must endure getting stung repeatedly for at least ten minutes. If that wasn't enough, the boy must sometimes go through over a dozen of these rituals! None of them suffer long term effects although the trauma may last forever.
8. Japanese Giant Hornets
The highly aggressive and territorial Japanese giant hornets are infamous for their painful sting and fearsome nature. A subspecies of the Asian giant hornet, these monsters are much larger than normal hornets and are known to hunt and consume up to 50 unfortunate honey bees a day. As if honey bees didn’t already have enough problems…
The creatures which are rapidly becoming a pest have now made nests in France and England and due to poor shipping practices, are spreading across the globe. Their venom is known to destroy red blood cells and those with allergic reactions are especially at risk of death. The Japanese giant hornets kill 30-40 people in Japan alone every year, and send hundreds to hospital. Its venom attacks the nervous system and damages the tissue of its victims. The stings can also cause renal failure. The giant hornets are attracted to human sweat, alcohol, and sweet flavors and smells. They are especially sensitive when animals or people run and they will start to swarm and attack. Some victims have required hundreds of stitches and numerous dialysis treatments to survive and are still are left with deep scars. These hornets have lead to government initiatives to destroy the nests in Japan and China, and maybe they have the right idea? These aggressive insects are pretty scary.

Bugs serve multiple purposes on this planet. From pollinating plants to stinging and scaring the living daylights out of people, humans have a love/hate relationship with bugs. We need bugs to make the world go around, but at the same time, people would rather not deal with bugs especially if they bite, sting, or chase after you. It seems that the one common fear that mankind seems to share is the fear of some sort of bug, with spiders being the most common fear known as arachnophobia. The largest bugs in the world were known as the Protodonata, and they lived during the prehistoric period in the Paleozoic Era. They were large, dragon-fly like creatures who ruled the skies and plant life. They would be sure to put a scare in us all if we were to see them today.
As our existence continues to evolve and innovations in travel make it more possible to explore every nook and cranny in the world, more bugs have been found than ever before. In the early 20th century, the discovery of bugs such as the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing incited fear and made people use guns to take it out of the sky. Turns out that this particular bug is the largest butterfly in the world with a wingspan of over one foot, enough to put a scare into anyone. There is a trend known as “island gigantism” where animals and bugs are found to be much larger on remote islands than one mass spaces of land like a continent. The giant weta is a perfect example of island gigantism, as it is the largest weta in the species and puts its relatives to shame.
A few years ago, a photo of a group of Marines from the United States in Afghanistan shocked the world and sent arachnophobes into high alerts when people saw the massively large camel spider. The story behind the photo was that the camel spider could disembowel camels, crawl into sleeping bags, and run at high speeds. Well, thankfully, the story was just rumor and speculation, and the camel spider wasn’t really as massively large as the photo made it look. But the story was enough to inspire people to do their own research on the largest bugs in the world, and the results do not disappoint. In fact, the results may just downright scare you into wanting to stay indoors for the rest of your life.
This video includes some of the largest bugs in the world. Some of them are so big that you have to wonder whether there was a chemical spill nearby to spawn these mutant-looking bugs. Whether you are enjoying this video from the Amazon, or in the comfort of your home in the suburbs, take caution next time you go outside. Luckily, just because a bug is large, it doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous or poisonous. Take heed, and maybe if you spot a giant weta, you can give it a carrot to enjoy.

# 6 Denkimushi - Electric bug
This bug looks like a cuddly decorative pillow that would make for a very cute decorative pet. Well, it would if you could touch it. This squishy looking bug is called the Denkimushi, which means Electric Bug in Japanese. It’s not just a cheeky name, either. If you so much as poke any of the bug’s barbs you would feel an electric shock. Denkimushi’s barbs secrete a unique toxin that mimics the feeling of electrocution!
# 5 Giant Huntsman Spider
When measured by leg span, Huntsman spiders are the biggest in the world. The Giant Huntsman has a diameter of 12 inches, usually described as big as a dinner plate. These spiders don’t create equally large spider webs to catch prey in though, they hunt them down by hand. They can run up to a yard a second at their highest speeds and use that to their advantage. In some parts of the world they’re known for sneaking into people's houses and cars and hiding underneath pillows and sun visors. It’s not hard to imagine them jumping onto your head and eating your face. They’re also pretty social, so if you find one of these foot long spiders lying around, you might just find 12 more nearby.
# 4 Mites
Mites are pretty gross already, but they might be worse than you thought. Most animals, including both humans and bugs, want to get rid of a mite infestation as soon as possible. For some reason, the Giant Hercules beetle wears them like a giant oversized coat. The mites ride on the beetle which takes them to dead carcasses for them to feast on. The beetle doesn’t gain much from this, in fact they usually get extremely slowed down and are incapable of flight because the mites get so heavy. If the beetle doesn’t find a food source for them soon enough the mites will overwhelm it and make it incapable of moving at all, until finally they eat the beetle itself. Imagine wearing a coat made of living bugs that would kill and eat you if you didn’t feed it in time. Nature is so beautiful.
# 3 Africanized Honey Bee
Why must humans try and play God? The Africanized Honeybee is a direct result of human intervention - it's a crossbreed between the European honeybee and the African Bee but the combination of the two is not what we expected it to be. Africanized Honeybees are extremely aggressive. If you linger near their hive for more than half a second they will assume you’re there to attack them and will retaliate. It’s not just a few soldier bees trying to chase you off either, it's the entire hive. Almost the whole colony, upwards of tens of thousands of bees, will swarm you until you’re covered completely in them, feeling hundreds of stings a second.
# 2 Giant Centipede
Bugs have a bad rep. A lot of them are disproportionately crushed and squashed just because we think they look scary and gross when they’re usually harmless. Well that’s not the case with Giant Centipedes. These alien looking monsters can have anywhere between 42 and 46 legs and use them to run at high speeds. They’ll eat anything from rats to frogs. Some can even jump into the air and catch a bat mid flight for some lunch. Giant Centipedes aren’t only insanely fast, they’re very aggressive and easily agitated. If they feel like they’re being intruded upon, they will just attack you for no reason. If you see one of these multi-legged beasts sprinting your way, it might be best to run too since they’ve got tiny claws on all their legs capable of breaking skin, powerful jaws, and are able to secrete a toxin that will give you a really painful rash.
# 1 Japanese Giant Hornet
Hornets are known for being terrifying plagues on the world, but none are as scary as Japanese Giant Hornets. They are about 3 to 4 inches long, so unlike most bugs you can see every horrible detail on their body very clearly. They have massive mandibles that can easily decapitate most bugs and leave a gnarly mark on human flesh. If that wasn’t enough to terrify you, they can shoot out flesh-melting poison that will leave you blind if it gets in your eyes. If one of them takes a liking to you, they can mark you with pheromones so that all its Giant Hornet friends can find you and swarm onto you too. Wanna try running away? Good luck with that. These bugs can fly 50 miles a day and are pretty fast too.

This is the Bugs 2 "W" FPV version, and flies insanely fast for a GPS bird. It uses 5G WiFi for FPV video reception on your phone. The "W" version is coming soon to all vendors, and I'll be posting links to the vendors when this comes in stock. Pros - 1080p camera actually takes nice sharp video. Video quality is better than the Hubsan H501S & C, but about on par with the H501A. - Uses USA GPS and Russian GLONASS satellites for very fast and accurate GPS lockon. - Very fast GPS quadcopter. This is the Bugs 2 "W" FPV version, and flies insanely fast for a GPS bird. It uses 5G WiFi for FPV video reception on your phone. The "W" version is coming soon to all vendors, and I'll be posting links to the vendors when this comes in stock.
Pros
- 1080p camera actually takes nice sharp video. Video quality is better than the Hubsan H501S & C, but about on par with the H501A.
- Uses USA GPS and Russian GLONASS satellites for very fast and accurate GPS lockon.
- Very fast GPS quadcopter. Many GPS quadcopters can't fly this fast, simply because their GPS system can't keep up. With GPS/GLONASS, this one can.
- Also has altitude hold, and headless mode.
- 5G WiFi FPV does not interfere with 2.4G controller. Thus this has greater WiFi FPV range (a little over 100 meters) than most other WiFi FPV fliers.
- Also, line of site control range with the controller is advertised out to 1000 meter. Now most people can't see this at 1000 meters. But if you do fly out of range, its GPS bring it home to a landing. Or if you lose sight of it, or just lazy, press the return to home button for automatic return to home and landing.
- Will also return to home on low battery. First it gives a beeping warning. But if you ignore the warning, it will automatically return and land at 2 bars warning if you are greater than 100m, return and land at 1 bar if greater than 15 m, or automatically land at 1 bar if less than 15m.
- Although the battery seems to be proprietary, the Bugs 3 battery is the same without the back connection panel. If you use a Bugs 3 battery, you'll need to devise a method so the Bugs battery it won't slide out the back (tape? velcro?).
Cons
- Not everyone has 5G WiFi on their phones or tablets. It's only available on newer devices, and even then, not all have it. Check your intended control device to confirm it has 5G WiFi before purchasing.
- Would have liked to seen a WiFi repeater system included (like the H501A) so that FPV range could be much greater than 100 meters.
- The body plastic feels like it might be more brittle than the H501 series, or the Bugs 3. Stay away from obstacles during high speed flying.
