Perth shivers through coldest morning in 10 months

If you struggled to crawl out from under the doona on Friday, you are not alone, with Perth shivering through the coldest morning in 10 months.

Just after 6.30am the temperature was a chilly 1.9 degrees in Perth, the coldest start to the day since August 1 last year.

While the city was freezing, the outer suburbs were balmy in comparison with Perth Airport recording 8.8 degrees just after 7am, Swanbourne 10 degrees and Mandurah 13.2 degrees.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Megan Cash said the Perth station recorded an unusual cold reading because it was sheltered from the wind, compared to Jandakot.

But Perth won't remain nippy for long, with the maximum temperature expected to reach a warm 24 degrees.

In fact, Perth has recorded its warmest start to winter since records were kept way back in 1897.

The average temperature in June is a cool 19.4 degrees.

And the sunny weather doesn't look like disappearing anytime soon, with temperatures expected to be in the mid to low 20s for the next week.

The warm start to winter follows Perth recording its driest autumn in eight years.

Monday: 10 - 25, mostly sunny
