Barbiturates are drugs that act as central nervous system depressants, and can therefore produce a wide spectrum of effects, from mild sedation to total anesthesia. They are also effective as anxiolytics, hypnotics, and anticonvulsants. Barbiturates also have analgesic effects; however, these effects are somewhat weak, preventing barbiturates from being used in surgery in the presence of other analgesics (opioids or volatile anesthetics such as halothane). They have addiction potential, both physical and psychological. Barbiturates have largely been replaced by benzodiazepines in routine medical practice – for example, in the treatment of anxiety and insomnia – mainly because benzodiazepines are significantly less dangerous in overdose and there is no specific antidote for barbiturate overdose. However, barbiturates are still used in general anesthesia, for epilepsy, for the treatment of acute migraines and cluster headaches (in the compound drugs Fioricet and Fiorinal) (under stringent protocols with mandatory physician monitoring for addiction and abuse), and (where legal) assisted suicide and euthanasia. Barbiturates are derivatives of barbituric acid.

Barbiturate is an avant-garde death metal band that formed in 2011 as a studio project which featured well-seasoned local NY musicians Brett Weatherston (Bass Guitar, Production), Matt Scriva (Guitars) and Charles Greenberg (Vocals). The band has spent months in the studio crafting their debut release, entitled "DEEP", which was independently produced and subsequently independently released on February, 1st, 2014. "DEEP" features artwork from internationally renowned tattoo artists, from the cover art down to the CD and the band logo itself. Barbiturate is currently seeking distribution representation for this album, as well as additional material being prepared for their follow-up release, which is already near completion. All band assets are wholly owned independently by the band. Ba...

A fix of sanity
To erase your memory
A dose of reality
To bring you to your fucking knees.
Depression could never take away
The love i have for you
Misanthropy will always have a certain place in you.
I need a fix
A touch of therapy
To refuse your apathy
A bit of sympathy
And watch it..
All go to hell
(fuck)
Depression could never take away
The love i have for you
Misanthropy will always have a certain place in you
Strap me down
Drug me
Kill me
Rape me
Suck me
Fuck me
Induce me
You fucking junkie!
I feed on all your pain
To patronize your mind
I drink of heavens hate
To destroy human kind
Well this stress is eating me up inside
I need something to numb this pain again
I was born of you
I live while you sleep
Inside your heart
While i bury deep
All your suffering
Shoot up..let the anestesia set in
Going up is the easy part
It's coming down that kills
