After exploring America for 2.5 months we had to put together a list of our most favourite cities. Some of these, we only got to experience for a day and others we spent over a week in... needless to say, the diversity of America is certainly what makes it so great (at least for us Canadians). Feel free to roast us for our selection, we'd love to hear which cities you think are the best and why! Here are the Top 10 American Cities to visit!!

The US is not the safest place in the world to live. In certain cities, the presence of violent street gangs and/or a bustling drug trade have caused the streets to become a dangerous place to be.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Minneapolis is the biggest city in Minnesota. Once upon a time, it was the flour milling capital of the world, and it's home to a rich artisitic culture. Prince was born in Minneapolis, and Bob Dylan got his start in the city as well.
Anchorage, Alaska
The Municipality of Anchorage is, in all rights, a peaceful city. Which is an accomplishment considering it's the most populated city in Alaska. The city has been named an "All-America City" four times, one of eight cities in the US to be given the title that many times.
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield, Illinois is the capital of the state, and also not the only springfield to be on this list, . Let's get into some history, as Springfield is known for it's rich civil war history. President Abraham Lincoln began his political career in the city, and when the civil war started, regiments of union troops were trained there.
Springfield, Massachussets
This is the first Springfield in the US. There are many Springfields like it, but this one is the first. It's also the birthplace of basketball, and the home of the Smith & Wesson firearm manufacturing company.
Little Rock, Arkansas
You might think Arkansas is a just a peaceful southern state where nothing ever really happens... and you'd actually be right for the most part. Some of it's more populated cities do have some issues with crime, like Forrest City or West Helena, but the majority of the state is just huge fields and friendly little towns.
Atlanta, Georgia
The capital of Georgia was established in 1837, quickly building itself up after the civil war. The city became known for it's realitvely progressive views concerning the black population following the Civil Rights Movement, being called a city "too busy to hate", and busy it is, being the 36th most influencial city in the world.
Washington, District of Columbia
Ah, the capital of the United States. Washington D.C. is full of landmarks and muesems, and is the home of our goverment. It's also it's own federal district, and not a part of any other state, essentially making the city it's own entity.
Stockton, California
Here we go, the first city in Calfornia on the list. Stockton has an annual violent crime rate of 4,080. There were about as many murders in Stockton in 2014 as there were in San Jose in 2014.
Chicago, Illinois
You knew Chicago was going to be on this list. In 2012, Chicago's murder rate was 18.5 per 100,000 people, making it higher than New York City and Los Angeles. The majority of the violence comes from the presence of the Sinaloa Cartel that operates heavily in the city.
Detroit, Michigan
Detroit was the murder capital of the US from 1985 to 1987, with 58 murders per 100,000 citizens. This murder rate was no doubt an inspiration for the classic movie Robocop, which takes place in a fictionalized dystopian future-detroit.
St Louis has been on many "most dangerous cities" lists, and is currently the number 1 most dangerous city in the U.S. This is a very controversial ranking, with several professors and criminologists saying that the ranking system used by CQ Press is flawed in that it doesn't factor in many things, like how only certain neighborhoods are really bad, and so on.

America's cities are crumbling under poor infrastructure, and politicians aren't willing to spend the money needed to fix it. On the most recent infrastructure report card from the American Society of Civil Engineers, America's infrastructure got a D+. Trillions of dollars will be needed to bring our roads, bridges, and dams out of the danger zone.
But what if we thought of infrastructure challenges as technology problems, rather than just political obstacles? And what if we got our best hackers and technologists to try to find ways to repair our cities using tools they built themselves?
In this episode of REAL FUTURE, Cara Santa Maria goes to meet several Los Angeles city employees who are trying to use homemade technology to fix the city's urgent infrastructure needs, before it's too late.

Business week has come up with an interesting list of the top 50 American cities to live in.
Number 10 is Anchorage, Alaska, which ranks high because of its fantastic air quality and ridiculous 1.7 park acres per resident.
9th on the list is San Francisco--a well-rounded city that has it all.
Number 8 is Virginia Beach, a beautiful beach city with miles of boardwalks.
San Diego, the city with the best weather in the country, is 7th on the list.
Ranked 6th is Washington DC, the nation's capital with some of the best museums in the world and the lowest foreclosure rate on the list.
Irvine, California - no. 5 - has the best schools of any city on the list and a median income of $92,195.
Fourth is Scottsdale, Arizona, the wealthy Phoenix suburb surprisingly beat out the california cities in the top 10.
Gorgeous Honolulu, HI comes in third with low unemployment and a low foreclosure rate.
Second is Arlington, Virginia with the lowest unemployment rate of cities on the list and ⅔ of its population holding college degrees.
And number one is Raleigh, NC. It is perhaps the most well-rounded city with thriving schools and universities, a great cultural scene and beautiful parks.
The rankings were based on 16 criteria, which include: the number of restaurants, bars, and museums per capita; the number of colleges, libraries, and professional sports teams; the income, poverty, unemployment, crime, and foreclosure rates; percent of population with bachelor's degrees, public school performance, park acres per 1,000 residents, and air quality. Greater weighting was placed on recreational amenities such as parks, bars, restaurants, and museums, and on educational attainment, school performance, poverty, and air quality.
Some surprising omissions from the top 50 were Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Miami.

Los Angeles, with a population at the 2010 United States Census of 3,792,621, is the most populous city in the state of California, and the second most populous in the United States, after New York City. American urban history is the study of cities of the United States. Local historians have always written about their own cities. Starting in the 1920s, and led by Arthur Schlesinger, Sr. at Harvard, professional historians began comparative analysis of what cities have in common, and started using theoretical models and scholarly biographies of specific cities. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican--American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. Nicknamed the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a world center of business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, and education. It is home to renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields and is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is, in all rights, a peaceful city. Which is an accomplishment considering it's the most populated city in Alaska. The city has been named an "All-America City" four times, one of eight cities in the US to be given the title that many times.
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield, Illinois is the capital of the state, and also not the only springfield to be on this list, . Let's get into some history, as Springfield is known for it's rich civil war history. President Abraham Lincoln began his political career in the city, and when the civil war started, regiments of union troops were trained there.

This is the first Springfield in the US. There are many Springfields like it, but this one is the first. It's also the birthplace of basketball, and the home of the Smith & Wesson firearm manufacturing company.
Little Rock, Arkansas
You might think Arkansas is a just a peaceful southern state where nothing ever really happens... and you'd actually be right for the most part. Some of it's more populated cities do have some issues with crime, like Forrest City or West Helena, but the majority of the state is just huge fields and friendly little towns.
Atlanta, Georgia
The capital of Georgia was established in 1837, quickly building itself up after the civil war. The city became known for it's realitvely progressive views concerning the black population following the Civil Rights Movement, being called a city "too busy to hate", and busy it is, being the 36th most influencial city in the world.
Washington, District of Columbia
Ah, the capital of the United States. Washington D.C. is full of landmarks and muesems, and is the home of our goverment. It's also it's own federal district, and not a part of any other state, essentially making the city it's own entity.
Stockton, California
Here we go, the first city in Calfornia on the list. Stockton has an annual violent crime rate of 4,080. There were about as many murders in Stockton in 2014 as there were in San Jose in 2014.
Chicago, Illinois
You knew Chicago was going to be on this list. In 2012, Chicago's murder rate was 18.5 per 100,000 people, making it higher than New York City and Los Angeles. The majority of the violence comes from the presence of the Sinaloa Cartel that operates heavily in the city.
Detroit, Michigan
Detroit was the murder capital of the US from 1985 to 1987, with 58 murders per 100,000 citizens. This murder rate was no doubt an inspiration for the classic movie Robocop, which takes place in a fictionalized dystopian future-detroit.
St Louis has been on many "most dangerous cities" lists, and is currently the number 1 most dangerous city in the U.S. This is a very controversial ranking, with several professors and criminologists saying that the ranking system used by CQ Press is flawed in that it doesn't factor in many things, like how only certain neighborhoods are really bad, and so on.

Minneapolis is the biggest city in Minnesota. Once upon a time, it was the flour milling capital of the world, and it's home to a rich artisitic culture. Prince was born in Minneapolis, and Bob Dylan got his start in the city as well.
Anchorage, Alaska
The Municipality of Anchorage is, in all rights, a peaceful city. Which is an accomplishment considering it's the most populated city in Alaska. The city has been named an "All-America City" four times, one of eight cities in the US to be given the title that many times.
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield, Illinois is the capital of the state, and also not the only springfield to be on this list, . Let's get into some history, as Springfield is known for it's rich civil war history. President Abraham Lincoln began his political career in the city, and when the civil war started, regiments of union troops were trained there.
Springfield, Massachussets
This is the first Springfield in the US. There are many Springfields like it, but this one is the first. It's also the birthplace of basketball, and the home of the Smith & Wesson firearm manufacturing company.
Little Rock, Arkansas
You might think Arkansas is a just a peaceful southern state where nothing ever really happens... and you'd actually be right for the most part. Some of it's more populated cities do have some issues with crime, like Forrest City or West Helena, but the majority of the state is just huge fields and friendly little towns.
Atlanta, Georgia
The capital of Georgia was established in 1837, quickly building itself up after the civil war. The city became known for it's realitvely progressive views concerning the black population following the Civil Rights Movement, being called a city "too busy to hate", and busy it is, being the 36th most influencial city in the world.
Washington, District of Columbia
Ah, the capital of the United States. Washington D.C. is full of landmarks and muesems, and is the home of our goverment. It's also it's own federal district, and not a part of any other state, essentially making the city it's own entity.
Stockton, California
Here we go, the first city in Calfornia on the list. Stockton has an annual violent crime rate of 4,080. There were about as many murders in Stockton in 2014 as there were in San Jose in 2014.
Chicago, Illinois
You knew Chicago was going to be on this list. In 2012, Chicago's murder rate was 18.5 per 100,000 people, making it higher than New York City and Los Angeles. The majority of the violence comes from the presence of the Sinaloa Cartel that operates heavily in the city.
Detroit, Michigan
Detroit was the murder capital of the US from 1985 to 1987, with 58 murders per 100,000 citizens. This murder rate was no doubt an inspiration for the classic movie Robocop, which takes place in a fictionalized dystopian future-detroit.
St Louis has been on many "most dangerous cities" lists, and is currently the number 1 most dangerous city in the U.S. This is a very controversial ranking, with several professors and criminologists saying that the ranking system used by CQ Press is flawed in that it doesn't factor in many things, like how only certain neighborhoods are really bad, and so on.

The US is not the safest place in the world to live. In certain cities, the presence of violent street gangs and/or a bustling drug trade have caused the streets to become a dangerous place to be.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Minneapolis is the biggest city in Minnesota. Once upon a time, it was the flour milling capital of the world, and it's home to a rich artisitic culture. Prince was born in Minneapolis, and Bob Dylan got his start in the city as well.
Anchorage, Alaska
The Municipality of Anchorage is, in all rights, a peaceful city. Which is an accomplishment considering it's the most populated city in Alaska. The city has been named an "All-America City" four times, one of eight cities in the US to be given the title that many times.
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield, Illinois is the capital of the state, and also not the only springfield to be on this list, . Let's get into some history, as Springfield is known for it's rich civil war history. President Abraham Lincoln began his political career in the city, and when the civil war started, regiments of union troops were trained there.
Springfield, Massachussets
This is the first Springfield in the US. There are many Springfields like it, but this one is the first. It's also the birthplace of basketball, and the home of the Smith & Wesson firearm manufacturing company.
Little Rock, Arkansas
You might think Arkansas is a just a peaceful southern state where nothing ever really happens... and you'd actually be right for the most part. Some of it's more populated cities do have some issues with crime, like Forrest City or West Helena, but the majority of the state is just huge fields and friendly little towns.
Atlanta, Georgia
The capital of Georgia was established in 1837, quickly building itself up after the civil war. The city became known for it's realitvely progressive views concerning the black population following the Civil Rights Movement, being called a city "too busy to hate", and busy it is, being the 36th most influencial city in the world.
Washington, District of Columbia
Ah, the capital of the United States. Washington D.C. is full of landmarks and muesems, and is the home of our goverment. It's also it's own federal district, and not a part of any other state, essentially making the city it's own entity.
Stockton, California
Here we go, the first city in Calfornia on the list. Stockton has an annual violent crime rate of 4,080. There were about as many murders in Stockton in 2014 as there were in San Jose in 2014.
Chicago, Illinois
You knew Chicago was going to be on this list. In 2012, Chicago's murder rate was 18.5 per 100,000 people, making it higher than New York City and Los Angeles. The majority of the violence comes from the presence of the Sinaloa Cartel that operates heavily in the city.
Detroit, Michigan
Detroit was the murder capital of the US from 1985 to 1987, with 58 murders per 100,000 citizens. This murder rate was no doubt an inspiration for the classic movie Robocop, which takes place in a fictionalized dystopian future-detroit.
St Louis has been on many "most dangerous cities" lists, and is currently the number 1 most dangerous city in the U.S. This is a very controversial ranking, with several professors and criminologists saying that the ranking system used by CQ Press is flawed in that it doesn't factor in many things, like how only certain neighborhoods are really bad, and so on.

Number 10 is Anchorage, Alaska, which ranks high because of its fantastic air quality and ridiculous 1.7 park acres per resident.
9th on the list is San Francisco--a well-rounded city that has it all.
Number 8 is Virginia Beach, a beautiful beach city with miles of boardwalks.
San Diego, the city with the best weather in the country, is 7th on the list.
Ranked 6th is Washington DC, the nation's capital with some of the best museums in the world and the lowest foreclosure rate on the list.
Irvine, California - no. 5 - has the best schools of any city on the list and a median income of $92,195.
Fourth is Scottsdale, Arizona, the wealthy Phoenix suburb surprisingly beat out the california cities in the top 10.
Gorgeous Honolulu, HI comes in third with low unemployment and a low foreclosure rate.
Second is Arlington, Virginia with the lowest unemployment rate of cities on the list and ⅔ of its population holding college degrees.
And number one is Raleigh, NC. It is perhaps the most well-rounded city with thriving schools and universities, a great cultural scene and beautiful parks.
The rankings were based on 16 criteria, which include: the number of restaurants, bars, and museums per capita; the number of colleges, libraries, and professional sports teams; the income, poverty, unemployment, crime, and foreclosure rates; percent of population with bachelor's degrees, public school performance, park acres per 1,000 residents, and air quality. Greater weighting was placed on recreational amenities such as parks, bars, restaurants, and museums, and on educational attainment, school performance, poverty, and air quality.
Some surprising omissions from the top 50 were Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Miami.
