Because the US sleeve has no "My"..(I'm sure those came first), It's probably written incorrectly on the copyrighted lead sheet, and it just kept going..until (surely one of the writers) saw the record, and made some calls...(if the US single ever gets posted, we'll make sure the "My" is there)...John
Be assured Jimmy, I was not laughing but expressing My Humble Opinion! I remain of the opinion that the title should include 'My' and I'll amend the entry once we have a concensus here, or at least no compelling argument to the contrary
Beatle John....thanks for posting those two different titled USA labels. Interesting to note that both have the same catalogue number (Columbia 4 42666). Going back to what I said earlier....NEVER believe what the label says. So answering my own question... MIS-PRINT. Maybe this page should be changed to "what will MY mary say".
so Jules Juke....my question was is there a reason for the two different titles on the label or not? Maybe rather than a LMAO comment you should provide more positive input. T-Rex had a similar situation with "Get It On" as the UK title but in the USA, as even you will know, it was "Bang A Gong (Get It On)", and there was a good reason for that wasn't there?....still LYAO?
Thanks Catagna45. Wonder if we'll ever find out the truth or why there is this variation. One thing I've discovered over the years is NEVER to believe that what you read on the label is correct. Squillions of examples on this site alone.
Funny you should ask that, jimmysaville53. The moment I saw the title (along with the earlier and equally good 'Gina', which had led to a resurgence in chart success, after a lapse) I thought the same. Have a look at this.
Uploading a copy which is titled "What Will My Mary Say", NOT "What Will Mary Say". Does anybody know which was the correct title? Trivial question but Johnny actually does sing the word "MY" in the lyric.
