Kozhikode

Kozhikode, or Calicut, is an ancient and important port on the western coast of India, known across the world since ancient times as the "City of Spices". It was here that Vasco Da Gama first landed and opened the gateway for trade, and eventual colonisation. Calicut consistently rates highly in terms of quality of life, and economic opportunities.

Being one of the main commercial hubs of Kerala, Calicut mainly deals in port activity, timber and internal trade and logistics of goods. The city currently has two IT parks under construction and multiple large malls and buildings coming up from the recent construction boom.

The Government is especially keen to encourage IT and retail industries in the city. With a literacy rate of 97% and a highly business oriented attitude, Calicut is a minefield for outsourcing and knowledge related industries.

The Calicut beach, the boat building yard, and various mosques and temples in the area comprise the major tourist attractions.
