FCPX editing software lets you manage less and focus more on emotion and story. The magnetic timeline allows for trackless editing and the new update 10.3 introduces audio lanes for split audio tracks (to output to your audio mixer). Cognitive selecting through events and keyword assignment as well as visual scrubbing are great ways to emotionally engage with your footage and stay in editing flow.

I personally use BOTH Premiere and Final Cut. Each has it’s own strengths and weaknesses for different projects, and getting the best out of both packages saves me a ton of time working across a broad range of video projects...
But for the vast majority of editors just one is enough, and deciding which is the best video editing software for you and your ideal editing workflow can be tough.

Final Cut Pro X
Final Cut Pro X (pronounced "Final Cut Pro Ten") (FCPX) is a commercial video editing application for OS X from Apple Inc. and the successor to Final Cut Pro. FCP X was announced in April 2011 simultaneously at the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro Users Group held at Bally's Las Vegas and at the NAB Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center and released in June 2011.
Features
Although inheriting the name from its FCP predecessor, FCP X is an all-new application, written from scratch. It is a trackless 64-bit application with Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL support, allowing it to scale and use all available cores for processing such as rendering and transcoding. FCP X is resolution independent. During import it can analyze footage and audio for automatic sorting into groups such as close-ups, medium shots, shots with two people or group shots. It can prepare the footage for quick, automatic fixes of defects such as camera shake, rolling shutter and color balance. Audio can also be analyzed in an attempt to automatically remove hums, pops or other noticeable defects and to assign channel configurations.

Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is the name given to a series of non-linear video editing software programs - first developed by Macromedia Inc. and later Apple Inc. The most recent version, Final Cut Pro X 10.2, runs on Intel-based Mac OS computers powered by OS X version 10.10 or later. The software allows users to log and transfer video onto a hard drive (internal or external), where it can be edited, processed, and output to a wide variety of formats. The fully rewritten and re-imagined Final Cut Pro X was introduced by Apple in 2011, with the last version of the legacy Final Cut Pro being version 7.0.3.
Since the early 2000s, Final Cut Pro has developed a large and expanding user base, mainly video hobbyists and independent filmmakers. It had also made inroads with film and television editors who have traditionally used Avid Technology's Media Composer. According to a 2007 SCRI study, Final Cut Pro made up 49% of the United States professional editing market, with Avid at 22%. A published survey in 2008 by the American Cinema Editors Guild placed their users at 21% Final Cut Pro (and growing from previous surveys of this group), while all others were still on an Avid system of some kind.

A little while ago, we (Anthony, Georgia and Michael) all had the opportunity to test our SCARLET-X "Rockwell" on the Steadicam Zephyr and the Midas Mount on a boudoir shoot. We are having a blast filming with SCARLET-X. One of the tools we didn't get to use was the DSMC Side Handle. We're curious to try it out on set and see how well it speeds things up. People seem to swear by it. As much as we like the touch screen controls, we would like to get our hands on the hard keys. Filming in a location that was a natural bounce board made it so a lighting setup was unnecessary, but also put the dynamic range of the camera to the test. Tutorial: 60p to 24p in Final Cut Pro X
Conforming 60p to 24p for slow motion is easy with Final Cut Pro X. No more need for Cinema Tools with the old studio. Conform clips right in the timeline. Also show some basic color correcting on the final clip. EDIT: IN 10.1, CONFORM IS NOW CALLED "AUTOMATIC SPEED." Canon 7D shooting 60p (1280x720). Shutter: 1/125 (180º) and Aperture: f/2.8 with Fader ND Project Settings: Select a custom resolution that matches your video size (1280x720) and 23.98 fps. If the project is created at the default settings, the project will inherit the resolution and frame rate of the first clip you add. The project needs to be a slower frame rate than the clips you are adding for them to playback at a slower speed.

The magnetic timeline allows for trackless editing and the new update 10.3 introduces audio lanes for split audio tracks (to output to your audio mixer). A little while ago, we (Anthony, Georgia and Michael) all had the opportunity to test our SCARLET-X "Rockwell" on the Steadicam Zephyr and the Midas Mount on a boudoir shoot. We are having a blast filming with SCARLET-X.
One of the tools we didn't get to use was the DSMC Side Handle. We're curious to try it out on set and see how well it speeds things up. People seem to swear by it. As much as we like the touch screen controls, we would like to get our hands on the hard keys.
Filming in a location that was a natural bounce board made it so a lighting setup was unnecessary, but also put the dynamic range of the camera to the test.
Even with us just learning how to operate "Rockwell", the Red footage impressed us with its flexibility, but also showed us the behavior of the footage when there are beams of sunlight, clipping the highlights. The flexibility of the R3D files allowed us to tweak to our heart's content, in Redcine-X Pro, to make a couple of clipped shots work well. Redcine-X pro is definitely a BIG improvement over Redcine-X and I can't go back.
Along with balancing the package to the steadicam, it was a great overall learning experience made easy due to the subject matter of course. :)
We took our R3D into Red Cine X Pro and transcoded out to Apple Pro Res 422 at 2k. Edited in Final Cut Pro. So nothing fancy in terms of 4k workflow. We still love the footage at 2k. Typography was done in After Effects.

A little while ago, we (Anthony, Georgia and Michael) all had the opportunity to test our SCARLET-X "Rockwell" on the Steadicam Zephyr and the Midas Mount on a boudoir shoot. We are having a blast filming with SCARLET-X.
One of the tools we didn't get to use was the DSMC Side Handle. We're curious to try it out on set and see how well it speeds things up. People seem to swear by it. As much as we like the touch screen controls, we would like to get our hands on the hard keys.
Filming in a location that was a natural bounce board made it so a lighting setup was unnecessary, but also put the dynamic range of the camera to the test.
Even with us just learning how to operate "Rockwell", the Red footage impressed us with its flexibility, but also showed us the behavior of the footage when there are beams of sunlight, clipping the highlights. The flexibility of the R3D files allowed us to tweak to our heart's content, in Redcine-X Pro, to make a couple of clipped shots work well. Redcine-X pro is definitely a BIG improvement over Redcine-X and I can't go back.
Along with balancing the package to the steadicam, it was a great overall learning experience made easy due to the subject matter of course. :)
We took our R3D into Red Cine X Pro and transcoded out to Apple Pro Res 422 at 2k. Edited in Final Cut Pro. So nothing fancy in terms of 4k workflow. We still love the footage at 2k. Typography was done in After Effects.
