As the head of an organization or company, the CEO (also referred to as the Chief Executive Officer) is the person who is in charge of the day to day operations. Within a given corporation, the CEO is the highest ranking position for an executive manager.

Depending on the particular needs of the organization, the CEO's responsibilities can vary widely. In most cases, the CEO plays the leading role either in an agency or department, and must report directly to the office of the governor or Board of Directors.

Due to the roles of a CEO, they have significant accountability, authority and responsibility. However, they usually start with fundamental managerial-related responsibilities upon being hired. This is to ensure that they are capable for the position; as the top person in command, they are responsible for creating, implementing and communicating the organization's mission, vision and overall direction.
