Melvin Wine - Cold Frost Morning
An LP from an excellent West Virginia fiddler. A friend took a few lessons from Melvin, he really cracked the whip apparently. DL

John W Dick Summers - May 1972 Discs 1+2
Some home recordings of the great Indiana fiddler, made by Joel and Kathy Shimberg. This is Part 1, rest tomorrow. Not too common to hear something like Schumann's Träumerei played by a fiddler! I do have a Sean Maguire record with Kreisler's Schön Rosmarin...DL

Little Jack MacDonald - The Bard Of Scottish Fiddling
A 60s LP from a Cape Breton player, who apparently had no small regard for his own abilities, let's say. In the book Talking Cape Breton Music Winston Fitzgerald's guitarist Estwood Davidson describes an early morning encounter between Little Jack and Fitz, Little Jack wanted to see if Winston was all he was cracked up to be. Winston being ever the pro overcame his hangover and impressed Little Jack, which apparently wasn't easy to do.
Little Jack played lovely music all around - more vibrato in his air playing than you got from older CB players, and even more ambition technique-wise, lots of shifting up the neck. A unique document. DL

Fiddlin’ Bill Hensley
1946 recordings of a great Asheville, North Carolina fiddler. Real sawed off playing, the energy some of these old timers had was something to behold. My audience of Irish aficionados will perhaps take an interest in how US musicians play Paddy on the Turnpike, a truly trans-Atlantic tune. DL

John Kelly And James Kelly - Irish Traditional Fiddle Music
Duets by the fiddling brothers, with the odd flute or pipes joining in. Seems to be out-of-print far as I can tell. DL
