THE MOCKERS - SMELLS LIKE SPAIN (1997)

This is kind of an odds and sods Mockers collection of extra tracks and alternate mixes released on the Spanish label SNAP to promote the tour of Spain in 1997. This is the Brad Jones mix of "C'mon Over To My Side." "Outdoor Café" is a different mix from the first album, mostly noticeable on the "Leslie" effect on the guitars. "Speedboat" is a great surf instro that Tony wrote for his first band, the Surf Piranhas and "Have Love" is a take on the Richard Berry classic, filtered through the Sonics, of course. The last track is an acoustic version of "5 Minutes Before" recorded live for Spanish National Radio on Jesus Ordovas' (the Spanish John Peel!) show Diario Pop.

MAGIC CHRISTIAN - MAGIC CHRISTIAN (2004)

After the Flamin' Groovies had split, Cyril Jordan's new project was Magic Christian with Alec Palao on bass (Sneetches) drummer Prairie Prince (Tubes, Todd Rundgren, etc.), and singer/Bay Pop Festival founder Paul Kopf. Together they put out a great set of mostly original 60's-influenced pop tunes. This rare release is a 2cd set limited edition in gatefold sleeve and was ranked #6 by David Bash in his Top 125 of 2004.

In 2009, a new Magic Christian (Cyril Jordan, Clem Burke, Eddie Munoz and Paul Kopf) released the excellent "Evolver". Click here to purchase.

Special note: I added a custom booklet and tray.

10cc - GOING PINK ON PURPOSE (1975)

10cc’s visit in the fall of 1975 was remembered by the release of their "King Biscuit Flour Hour Live " album, a set which is simultaneously one of the strongest in the entire KBFH series to date, and one of the most frustrating. For whatever reason, it highlights only material from the group’s first two albums; "The Original Soundtrack" material is altogether absent, leaving the astute collector with no alternative but to also seek out a rare bootleg featuring highlights from the same show. "Going Pink On Purpose" (TAKRL) includes five live songs, two of which, "The Second Sitting For The Last Supper” and "I’m Not In Love", offer some indication of what the official release omitted. The bootleg released in the US also included five studio B sides (4% of Something, Bee In My Bonnet, 18 Carat Man Of Means, Gismo My Way and Channel Swimmer). Source

SCOTT MILLER - LOUDFAMILY.COM (2001)

Between 1999 and 2002, every month loudfamily.com presented an exclusive rare mp3 track. No guarantees were made as to whether past mp3’s would ever be re-posted.

All of the 21 mp3's shared here today were grabbed from the official Loud Family site a mere ten years ago. All the mp3's were posted in 128, but i wasn't able to catch them all, so there are some missing parts, as some covers of Nico's "Fairest Of The Seasons", Anton Barbeau's "Little Daisy" or My Bloody Valentine's" When You Sleep" and some rare live performances. But there are some cool stuff here (specially the long version of "Chardonnay") courtesy of loudfamily.com. I made a slim case artwork for the PPC readers.

Special bonus: You can visit Rushbo's blog @ "Big Plans For Everybody" if you want to grab some rarities not featured here. Thank you.

GAME THEORY - LOLITA NATION (Single LP) (1987)

Certainly Game Theory's most ambitious album, "Lolita Nation" was a two-LP set also available in CD format.

Weirdly enough, the european release edited the 74 minute 2LP set to a single album of 42 minutes. It is also noteworthy to know that "Choose Between Two Sons" was moved at the end of side 1. This tighter version has never been reissued on CD.

GAME THEORY - BERKELEY SQUARE '86-'88

I got these two Berkeley Square performances in lossless format a few years ago on a registered site. As they are not seeded anymore right now, i post both of them as a two-fer.

Here are the notes of the original post.
"Two soundboard recordings that are to the best of my knowledge from a cassette master or 1st generation cassette copy. I would like to thank Robert Toren, my source for many of these recordings I have been posting. Robert was the band's "official" photographer and frequently toured with them as a road manager."

In a 1990 B.o.B. interview, Scott Miller said: "the five-piece that did "Lolita Nation" of Donnette Thayer, Shelley LaFreniere, Gil Ray and Guillaume Gassuan got to the point where it could really do some killer live shows. None of the other bands really did, but that one was together for so long it could really cook sometimes."

I made a special PPC artwork (booklet, inlay & tray) and both concerts are shared in FLAC and mp3 (320). Links are independent, so you can grab the concert you want.

MATERIAL ISSUE - RARITIES VOL 6

I lost the text file attached with this concert. So i don't know neither the place nor the year of the event. All i can say is there are some early Material Issue tunes (e.g "Why" or "Walk Into The Fire") but also some songs i have never heard elsewhere, specially a cover of the Mel Tillis classic "Ruby Don’t Take Your Gun To Town" and some songs introduced as new ones (e.g "A Day Like Today") by Jim Ellison. Another Radio FM source. According to a PPC reader, it's from Gaspar's in 1986.

GREGG SWANN (August 30,1966 - February 1, 2011)

Gregg Swann died Tuesday, February 1 at the age of 44. He was an amazing songwriter, having released three albums. His latest album "Everybody's Got To Be Somewhere" (2006) was voted Album of the year by blogcritics.org. You can listen to his work on cdbaby or visit some back pages of PPC about his previous releases "Blue In The Face" or "Fever Dream". A great powerpopster.
