BLUE VAN GOGH - MORE COFFEE... (1995)

For much of the 80s, Ray Andersen was a member of the notable Asbury Park NJ,Stone Pony house-band, Cats On A Smooth Surface. Bruce Springsteen played with Ray and the band so much, he often raved to the press worldwide, that they were his favorite group of musicians to jam with when he was off tour.
In 1995, Ray and his wife, Patti Maloney, formed a pop/rock duo, Blue Van Gogh, and a few years prior to the critically acclaimed "Hi-Fi Junkie Sonata", the duo had released the scarce mini album "More Coffee". Later in 1998, Ray got a call to play guitar, keyboards & sing backup for international rock star, Meat Loaf. Today Ray Andersen is better known as Mr Ray and has released so far 3 albums of singalong songs for the kids and their parents.

TRIBUTE TO THE KINKS - THE RAY DAVIES SONGBOOK (1997)

This was a nice idea for a compilation, assembling a wide range of covers of Ray Davies' songs in various styles with obvious tracks and a few real obscurities here. A tribute not too easy to find nowadays. Full review on AMG

VARIOUS - HIGH SCHOOL REUNION (2005)

Very cool tribute concept...and execution, more importantly! Tons of great artists covering songs from the 80`s most popular teen films. The track listing says it all.
The 1980's was the decade of the Teen Movie. There were more Teen Movies made during this period than in any other and fans with fond memories for the soundtracks of teen classics (a lot of John Hughes' ones actually) like "Pretty In Pink", "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", "The Breakfast Club", "Valley Girl", Weird Science" and "Sixteen Candles" won't be disappointed by this OOP School Reunion.

MIKE McGEAR - McGEAR (1974)

Produced and (with one exception) cowritten by big brother Paul and largely performed by Wings, the jolly and sensitive McGear sounds like audio sketches for Band on the Run; the fraternal vocal similarity is close enough for a double take. As difficult as it is to imagine McCartney himself covering Roxy Music's ''Sea Breezes,'' rocking out on the T. Rex-y ''Giving Grease a Ride,'' or sneering the sarcastic ''Norton,'' that very illusion is part of McGear's pleasure. Ira Robbins

When Warner Brothers signed McGear and Badfinger to quite a bit of fanfare, coinciding with Paul's Apple contract nearing expiration, there was quite a bit of rumor at the time suggesting that Warners was trying to interest "Macca" in signing with them.

In 1991, McGear was re-released by Rykodisc in the U.S. with a previously unreleased version of the disco song "Dance The Do" as a bonus track. In 1992, McGear was re-released by See For Miles Records in the U.K. with two bonus tracks, "Dance The Do" and "Sweet Baby," which had been the B-side of "Leave It." The liner notes quote McGear as saying that "Sweet Baby" had originally been named "All My Lovin'" but "some other group had already done one with that name."

Sea Breezes / What Do We Really Know? / Norton / Leave It / Have You Got Problems? / Dance The Do / The Casket / Sweet Baby / Rainbow Lady / Simply Love You / Givin' Grease A Ride / The Man Who Found God On The Moon

PYRAMIDIACS - ALL YOU WANT (1994)

The Pyramidiacs have been hanging around since some time in the late 1980's (probably 1988). The band was first formed in Fairfield, a suburb in western Sydney, Australia.

Eddie Owen (guitar, vocals), Bob Susnjara (bass, vocals) and Mickster Baty (drums) released the band's second single - a double 'A' side with "No Soul" and "Forever Gone", utilising the producing talents of Mr Rob Younger. They also featured on tribute albums to Alex Chilton ("Not the Singer but the Songs") and The Plimsouls ("This Ain’t The Plimsouls").

The current line-up came together in 1992 with the addition of Mick "The Funter" O’Regan (guitar, vocals). The Pyramidiacs then embarked upon some serious studio recordings which resulted in the release in 1993 of their first CD, the 7-song "Krunch!" They also released a Spanish version of "One More Time", one of the songs from the album, as the vinyl single "Solo Una Vez", mainly due to the favourable response to previous Pyramidiacs recordings in Europe.

The Pyramidiacs have maintained their recording output with their first full length CD release "All You Want" (1994) and the 4-song CD "Superstar" (1995), which was released to coincide with the band's first tour to Spain in September/October of that year.

"All You Want" is now OOP and might be the one and only Pyramidiacs album really hard to find, but all of their subsequent releases can be purchased either from Not Lame or any online record store (Amazon et al). In 2005, they released the Anthology "Stuff 'n' Junk" with some remastered "All You Want" material and plenty of rarities.

PPC NEWS

A few months ago, i uploaded a few of my videos archives on YouTube, therefore trying to create another "power pop" channel. My first purpose was just to see how would be the interest, and a few months later it is rather satisfying. So, if you don't already know the PPC channel, here's the link just in case you'd like to visit and watch some goodies. You're free to comment or not, at least you can enjoy the power of "power pop".

CONCERTS FOR THE PEOPLE OF KAMPUCHEA (1981)

The concert took place at the Hammersmith Odeon in London during December 1979 to raise money for the victims of war-torn Cambodia. The event was organized by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim A double album (with gatefold sleeve) and EP were released in 1981, and the best of the concerts were released as a film, "Concert for the People of Kampuchea" (still available on PPC).

Special note: The album has never been reissued on CD, due to the various record companies involved at the time of the event. This is a new audio rip with complete full set of artwork included.
