Jaké by to bylo a jak by to asi dopadlo, kdybychom se bránili? Scénář vychází z existujících vojenskohistorických studií na toto téma a opírá se o odborníky, především vojenské historiky. Jedná se o vizi, avšak dokumentárně erudovanou a respektující realitu. Prostřednictvím rekonstrukce nikdy neuskutečněných rozhovorů, rozhodnutí i situací a s využitím virtuálních realizací bojových scén se pouštíme na led spekulativní historie, led možná tenký, protože v historii kondicionál neplatí - ale co kdyby?

No translation, sorry. The VHS tape from which this was made was kindly supplied by Dr. Kapur, with help from Surjit Singh. I am grateful to the both of them, especially Dr. Kapur who has held on to this rare tape for many years now.
The NFAI has this listed as 155 minutes so this is missing 10-11 minutes.
It's from an Esquire VHS tape so if you see some strangeness going on in the lower left of the picture from time to time, it's my lame attempt to remove their ugly logo without being too obvious about it.

Based on "Bisher Dhuan" by writer Sardindu Banerjee (1899-1970), who adapted it for Bombay Talkies, Bhabhi is the story of an upright young man named Kishore (Jairaj) who promises his dying friend to take care of the latter's wife, Bimala (Maya Devi), left all alone in the world. Kishore brings Bimala to his house, where they live as brother and sister. Society disapproves, and so does Kishore's father, who disinherits his son. Meanwhile, Renu (Renuka Devi) and her father, Vinay Babu — a funny old man, a bundle of nerves — move in next door. Kishore and Renu fall in love, much to the annoyance of the pompous Anupam (Rama Shukul), who plans to marry the wealthy Renu. Anupam plays villain and creates much heartbreak for the lovers. On a side note, Renu's friend Bela (Meera), who is Anupam's cousin, falls for Kishore. Finally, all misunderstandings are cleared, thanks largely to Deenbandhu (the comforting and rather avuncular P. F. Pithawala), Kishore's former teacher.
The January 1939 issue of Filmindia says this about Bhabhi:
This picture is like a beautiful perfume that does not intrude. Beautiful in conception and neat in execution the story is a masterly blending of soothing pathos and elevating romance. It is a harmonious poem of picturization with every sequence courting amiably with the other. The theme is a mild satire on society but does not annoy or provoke at any stage and leaves behind a pleasant impression.
Renuka Devi is a remarkable discovery as a star of the screen. Her performance has that distinctive grace and poise which can only be associated with a lady of culture and education. Her personality has a fragrance that we so often miss on the Indian screen. Renuka must be seen oftener on the screen. Bombay Talkies owe this to their fans.

In 1938 Theodore Andrica, the Nationalities Editor of the Cleveland Press and author of the "Around the World in Cleveland" column, paid a visit to Nazi Germany. As part of his journey he shot this astonishing film which shows what appears to be the pastoral German state, but was actually a nation on the brink of war. Unlike many of the films from this era which have been colorized, Andrica actually shot this motion picture on Kodachrome stock. Although the material is silent the footage is astonishing, and includes no less personage than Adolph Hitler in its closing sequence. Rarely seen, this material was once thought to be lost. This print was recently rediscovered and preserved in HD.

George VI
George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George; 14 December 1895 – 6 February 1952) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 until his death. He was the last Emperor of India and the first Head of the Commonwealth.
As the second son of King George V, he was not expected to inherit the throne and spent his early life in the shadow of his elder brother, Edward. He served in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force during the First World War, and afterwards took on the usual round of public engagements. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923 and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret.
George's elder brother ascended the throne as Edward VIII upon the death of their father in 1936. However, later that year Edward revealed his desire to marry the divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson. British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin advised Edward that for political and religious reasons he could not marry a divorced woman and remain king. Edward abdicated in order to marry, and George ascended the throne as the third monarch of the House of Windsor.

It's from an Esquire VHS tape so if you see some strangeness going on in the lower left of the picture from time to time, it's my lame attempt to remove their ugly logo without being too obvious about it. 1938 FASCIST GERMANY - Trip to Germany & Adolf Hitler Speech in Color 3275
In 1938 Theodore Andrica, the Nationalities Editor of the Cleveland Press and author of the "Around the World in Cleveland" column, paid a visit to Nazi Germany. As part of his journey he shot this astonishing film which shows what appears to be the pastoral German state, but was actually a nation on the brink of war. Unlike many of the films from this era which have been colorized, Andrica actually shot this motion picture on Kodachrome stock. Although the material is silent the footage is astonishing, and includes no less personage than Adolph Hitler in its closing sequence. Rarely seen, this material was once thought to be lost. Based on "Bisher Dhuan" by writer Sardindu Banerjee (1899-1970), who adapted it for Bombay Talkies, Bhabhi is the story of an upright young man named Kishore (Jairaj) who promises his dying friend to take care of the latter's wife, Bimala (Maya Devi), left all alone in the world. Kishore brings Bimala to his house, where they live as brother and sister. Society disapproves, and so does Kishore's father, who disinherits his son. Meanwhile, Renu (Renuka Devi) and her father, Vinay Babu — a funny old man, a bundle of nerves — move in next door. Kishore and Renu fall in love, much to the annoyance of the pompous Anupam (Rama Shukul), who plans to marry the wealthy Renu. Anupam plays villain and creates much heartbreak for the lovers. On a side note, Renu's friend Bela (Meera), who is Anupam's cousin, falls for Kishore. Finally, all misunderstandings are cleared, thanks largely to Deenbandhu (the comforting and rather avuncular P. F. Pithawala), Kishore's former teacher.
The January 1939 issue of Filmindia says this about Bhabhi:
This picture is like a beautiful perfume that does not intrude. Beautiful in conception and neat in execution the story is a masterly blending of soothing pathos and elevating romance. It is a harmonious poem of picturization with every sequence courting amiably with the other. The theme is a mild satire on society but does not annoy or provoke at any stage and leaves behind a pleasant impression.
Renuka Devi is a remarkable discovery as a star of the screen. Her performance has that distinctive grace and poise which can only be associated with a lady of culture and education. Her personality has a fragrance that we so often miss on the Indian screen. Renuka must be seen oftener on the screen. Bombay Talkies owe this to their fans.
