Westminster (/ˈwɛsᵗmɪnstər/) is an area of central London within the City of Westminster on the north bank of the River Thames. Westminster's concentration of visitor attractions and historic landmarks, one of the highest in London, includes the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral.
Historically the area lay within St Margaret's parish, City & Liberty of Westminster, Middlesex.
The name Westminster originated from the informal description of the abbey church and royal peculiar of St Peter's (Westminster Abbey), literally West of the City of London, indeed until the Reformation there was a reference to the 'East Minster' at Minories (Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate) east of the City; the abbey was part of the royal palace that had been created here by Edward the Confessor. It has been the home of the permanent institutions of England's government continuously since about 1200 (High Middle Ages' Plantagenet times) and is now the seat of British government.
Westminster Hospital was a hospital in London, England, founded in 1719. In 1834 a medical school attached to the hospital was formally founded. In 1939 a newly built hospital and medical school opened in Horseferry Road, Westminster. In 1994 the hospital closed, and its resources were moved to the new Chelsea and Westminster Hospital at the old St Stephen's Hospital site in Fulham Road.
The Westminster Hospital was established in 1719 as a charitable society "for relieving the sick and needy at the Public Infirmary in Westminster", and promoted by Mr Henry Hoare (aka Good Henry (1718-1725), son of Sir Richard Hoare and Partner in C. Hoare & Co) and associates. The hospital was rebuilt in 1832 with help from Charles Hoare (great-grandson of 'Good' Henry Hoare). It was the first subscription hospital erected in London, and was incorporated in 1836.
In 1720, a house was taken for the purpose of an infirmary in Petty France; from which, in 1724, the institution was removed to Chapel Street, and some time after to James Street. A new and spacious hospital building was completed and opened in 1834, of an embattled quasi-Gothic character, erected by Messrs. Inwood. The hospital was situated by the Broad Sanctuary and the northern side of the nave of Westminster Abbey, between the Sessions House and Victoria Street, and accommodated about 200 in-patients, and the total number of patients relieved annually, in an 1878 account, was about 20,000. According to the same 1878 description, "Patients are admitted by order from a governor, except in cases of accident, which are received, without recommendation, at all hours of the day or night".
In December 2014, the use of NAO Robots with patients was trialled at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. The idea was to assess whether these robots could help combat the social isolation experienced by many inpatients in hospital wards. The results were varied and very moving... Travel guide Channel, travel to uk 2014.trip UK Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic, church in the City of Westminster, London, located just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the most notable religious buildings in the United Kingdom and has been the traditional place of coronation and burial site for English and, later, British monarchs. The abbey is a Royal Peculiar and between 1540 and 1550 had the status of a cathedral; however, the church is no longer an abbey or a cathedral. おすすめの海外旅行記2014-イギリス・ロンドン旅行・観光・風景高画質ムービーリンク 4Kカム導入につき4K画質でお届け。 Cam:SONY FDR-AX100 playlist trip 2014 http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1tkV_WgQcfnp8fEaxyI6j4I3ELKfUBaI

So what’s going on with the Westminster Memorial Hospital in Shaftesbury? As part of the re-organisation of healthcare in Dorset, one of the proposals is to transform the Westminster Memorial Hospital in Shaftesbury into what is known as a community hub without beds. It is claimed that the hospital is there to stay and will become a sort of walk-in centre. But the beds will be removed and a reduced number will be farmed out to local care homes or other providers. This, it is claimed, will make better use of the hospital real estate. But the danger of course is that this is the thin end of the wedge, with the gradual erosion over time of the services on offer in Shaftesbury. In the end we could see a token; if any, health service in Shaftesbury with townsfolk having to travel ever furth...

This is an "authentic" performance of Handel's Messiah, recorded in 1982 in Westminster Abbey for television. The musical interpretation is extremely compelling, and the well-known soloists are superb, true to the style of the music (no excess vibrato here, by pumped up divas), and add their own sparkling embellishments. Set against this, the video quality and camerawork is poor by modern TV standards, and it is hard not to be distracted and amused by some wonderfully 80s hairstyles (and David Thomas' rather manic gurning!). Nevertheless, having the video element adds greatly to the music. Vietnam has one of the highest incidences of birth defects in the world, which scientists have linked to the use of chemicals such as Agent Orange during the war. Children born today are still living with the legacy of the past, and, with expertise and facilities to help most of these patients sadly lacking, many families rely on the help of overseas charities and volunteer doctors. Facing the World is a United Kingdom-based charity that offers surgery to children with facial disfigurements. All the children offered surgery are from poor countries where they would have no other access to surgery to help them overcome their disfigurements. History: Facing the World was set up in 2003 by Norman Waterhouse and Martin Hirigoyen Kelly, two craniofacial plastic surgeons at the Chelsea and West...
