Arthur Lowe (22 September 1915 – 15 April 1982) was an English actor. His career spanned over thirty years, including starring roles in numerous theatre and television productions. He is best known for playing Captain Mainwaring in the British sitcom Dad's Army from 1968 until 1977. He was nominated for seven BAFTAs and became one of the most recognised faces on television.
Lowe began his working life shortly before the Second World War (1939–1945) and he featured in many theatrical performances. It was not until he landed the part of Leonard Swindley in the British television soap Coronation Street that he became a household name. He played the character until 1966, while continuing film work. In 1968 he took up his most famous role, in Dad's Army, written by David Croft and Jimmy Perry. His success as this character led to considerable television and theatrical work, which put pressure on his health. Lowe's final years were dominated by alcoholism and illness and he died on 15 April 1982, aged 66.

In case anyone is wondering what this is about, this is the ultra rare TV remake of the classic British comedy "The Plank" starring Eric Sykes and Arthur Lowe, I spent years trying to find a copy and thought I'd share it with the internet world!!! I might do a FYCW episode of The Plank some day, but if you haven't seen this movie before, I implore you to watch the original as it is vastly funnier than this version I have to confess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyU6SonN6mc

Mrs Potter, who has had the dubious honour of holding her position for some thirty years, has taken to vodka at the prospect of having her husband at home all day. She has long dreaded his retirement and is learning to cope with the extra time he now has to ignore her - or alternatively to advise her how to do things he should be doing himself. Best known for his portrayal of Sgt Wilson in Dad's Army, John le Mesurier has a quick chat with Roger Bowns.
Clive Dunn was an English actor, comedian, artist and author. He played Lance-Corporal Jones in the BBC sitcom Dad's Army. Here's an interview with him in 1995 about Tony Hancock. Dunn played small film roles from the 1930s onwards, appearing alongside Will Hay in the films Boys Will Be Boys (1935) while still a schoolboy, and Good Morning, Boys (1937). In 1939, he was stage manager for a touring production of The Unseen Menace, a detective story. This was not a success as the billed star of the show, Terence De Marney, did not appear on stage and his dialogue was supplied by a gramophone recording. In 1940, after the start of the Second World War, Dunn joined the army and served with the 4th Queen's Own Hussars.[ The unit fought during the German invasion of Greece but surrendered afte...

Arthur Lowe (Captain George Mainwaring), John Le Mesurier (Sergeant Arthur Wilson), Clive Dunn (Lance-Corporal Jack Jones), Ian Lavender (Private Frank Pike) and Bill Pertwee (ARP Warden William Hodges). The film is shot on Madeira Drive, Brighton, probably in 1974. Possibly at the finish of the London to Brighton Historic run.
Patrick Troughton interviewed on Pebble Mill at One by the lovely Marian Foster, transmitted 21st December 1973. I think it's fair to assume that hospitality were a tad more generous than usual with the Blue Nun. Judging by the standard of camerawork I think the crew probably indulged too. The cameras here would be EMI 2001s. Sadly, Patrick is no longer with us. A few years on - Marian is still just as lovely!

Just above my head, I can hear your heart beating
but I would not stand to let you in
so I forgot what you long for
and now what your terror is
and stand side by side
in the end we'll decide
when the pictures too scared for the work or
well its for the walls we could never break down
well this place is left empty
there's too many places
for the ones who cant hang around
yeah your hum hem home
or hum home hem
is there something that seeps slowly from your skin?
or oh does it drip drolly from your sense of
whats a sin? i know that its never been easy
but so many things, oh they've just never been
oh, no no no.
but its true your heart, it was always a pure one
you can feel it in each second guess
but the things you prescribed for your self-preservation
were mildly destructive at best, we were patient
and wondered sometimes, "where you headed?"
but oh no, no we never knew
despite all the things that you dreaded
