Davis become the country's first Platinum Bicycle City in 2005, four decades after city planners decided they needed to actively protect biking or it would lose the fight to cars. Today, the city has over 100 miles of bike lanes; 95% of all major roads offer this option. They also have a handful of bike signals, traffic slowing devices, bike roundabouts, bike underpasses, a bike museum and two bicycle advisory committees. Davis, California
Davis is a city in the U.S. state of California and the most populous city in Yolo County. It had a population of 65,622 in 2010, not including the on-campus population of the University of California, Davis, which was 5,786. Davis is included in the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Davis grew into a Southern Pacific Railroad depot built in 1868. It was then known as "Davisville", named after Jerome C. Davis, a prominent local farmer. However, the post office at Davisville shortened the town name simply to "Davis" in 1907. The name stuck, and the city of Davis was incorporated on March 28, 1917.
From its inception as a farming community, Davis has been known for its contributions to agricultural policy along with veterinary care and animal husbandry. Following the passage of the University Farm Bill in 1905 by the California State Legislature, Governor George Pardee selected Davis out of 50 other sites as the future home to the University of California's University Farm, officially opening to students in 1908. The farm, later renamed the Northern Branch of the College of Agriculture in 1922, was upgraded into the seventh UC general campus, the University of California, Davis, in 1959.

University of California, Davis
The University of California, Davis (also referred to as UCD, UC Davis, or Davis), is a public research university and one of the 10 campuses of the University of California system. Located in Davis, California, just west of Sacramento, it encompasses 7,309 acres of land, making it the largest UC campus in terms of land ownership. UC Davis also has the third-largest enrollment in the UC System after UCLA and UC Berkeley.
The Carnegie Foundation classifies UC Davis as a comprehensive doctoral research university with a medical program, and very high research activity. The UC Davis faculty includes 23 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 25 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 17 members of the American Law Institute, 14 members of the Institute of Medicine, and 14 members of the National Academy of Engineering. Among other honors, university faculty, alumni, and researchers have won the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Pulitzer Prize, MacArthur Fellowship, National Medal of Science, Blue Planet Prize, and Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering.

Located on the border of California and Arizona, about 300 miles from Los Angeles, Lake Havasu sits along the Colorado River with Parker Dam to the south and Davis Dam to the north.
Lake Havasu hotels include the chic new Lake Havasu hotel Heat and the Lake Havasu London Bridge Resort, home to the popular nightclub, Kokomos. Colorado River camping is available at The Islander Resort in Lake Havasu and Crazy Horse Campground. Havasu Palms and Black Meadow Landing are popular down near Parker Dam, and Palms River Resort is a good choice near Needles. In 2009, Pirate Cove Resort and the Naked Pirate Beach Bar opened in Needles to the delight of Lake Havasu party people.
Along the river, there are a few gas stations for boaters. Topock Marina is one of the most popular stops, and its bar and grill serves up great burgers, ribs and other American barbecue fare. If you're looking for another great place to cool off with a cold drink, the Naked Turtle Beach Bar at Nautical Inn Resort in Lake Havasu always has a party going on.
Speaking of parties, while you're here, don't miss Spring Break Lake Havasu hot spots like Copper Canyon, popular for cliff diving; Steamboat Cove, popular for Lake Havasu boat parties, and the famous sandbar in Topock Gorge.
Topock Gorge Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, home to Indian petroglyphs and bighorn sheep, is also a popular spot for birding, Colorado River rafting and kayak or canoe Colorado River trips. The Colorado River water current averages 3 mph here, and it's a lovely place to beach your boat and spend the day.
When planning your Lake Havasu vacation, remember that Lake Havasu weather averages about 110-119 F during the summer, and up to 100 F at night. Be sure to pack plenty of water, sunblock and food when going out on the boat.

38th Annual Fourth of July Criterium
The Davis Bike Club's annual Fourth of July Criterium will feature a day full of bike racing action on a new L-shaped loop that brings the course next to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. For increased safety, the racers will be riding clockwise around the downtown Davis course. The first race, Elite men 5, will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the last Elite 4 race will start at 4:20 p.m.
Kids Fun Ride
Bicycle riders 9 years old and younger can stay in downtown Davis after the Kiddie parade and ride in the free non-competitive "Kid's Fun Ride" produced by the Davis Bike Club as part of the July 4th Criterium. This ride begins at 12:40 p.m
Davis Little League Pancake Breakfast
The Davis Little League will be hosting its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th Street. Tickets are $5 at the door and Little Leaguers in uniform will receive free admission.
The 9:30 p.m. City-produced fireworks display on July 4th in Community Park is the only safe and legal use of fireworks that is allowed in Davis.

At 9:15 a.m., the parade entrants will begin to gather in a new location on 3rd Street between A Street and University Avenue. Judging for awards will begin at 9:15 a.m. Scooters, bicycles, wagons, strollers, walkers, and groups will be judged based on creativity, patriotism and enthusiasm. At 10:00 a.m. the parade will proceed east on 3rd Street and then north on C Street.
38th Annual Fourth of July Criterium
The Davis Bike Club's annual Fourth of July Criterium will feature a day full of bike racing action on a new L-shaped loop that brings the course next to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. For increased safety, the racers will be riding clockwise around the downtown Davis course. The first race, Elite men 5, will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the last Elite 4 race will start at 4:20 p.m.
Kids Fun Ride
Bicycle riders 9 years old and younger can stay in downtown Davis after the Kiddie parade and ride in the free non-competitive "Kid's Fun Ride" produced by the Davis Bike Club as part of the July 4th Criterium. This ride begins at 12:40 p.m
Davis Little League Pancake Breakfast
The Davis Little League will be hosting its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th Street. Tickets are $5 at the door and Little Leaguers in uniform will receive free admission.
The 9:30 p.m. City-produced fireworks display on July 4th in Community Park is the only safe and legal use of fireworks that is allowed in Davis.
