Premium Rush is a 2012 American action-thriller film directed by David Koepp and written by Koepp and John Kamps. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez and Jamie Chung. It follows a bicycle messenger chased around New York City by a corrupt police officer who wants an envelope the messenger has. It was released on August 24, 2012 by Columbia Pictures.
The film has a nonlinear narrative. It contains numerous flash-forward and flashback cuts, indicated with an overlaid digital clock showing the time advancing rapidly forward/backward to the next scene. In chronological order:
Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a disenchanted Columbia Law School graduate who has put off taking the bar exam because he could not bear to enter the humdrum life of the legal profession. He finds meaning and purpose in being employed as a thrill-seeking New York City bicycle messenger despite arguments with his girlfriend and fellow bike messenger, Vanessa (Dania Ramirez), who insists that he should make something of himself.
Saoirse Úna Ronan (/ˈsɜːrʃə ˈuːnə ˈroʊnən/ SUR-shə; born April 12, 1994) is an Irish actress. She is a two-time Academy Award nominee; receiving Best Supporting Actress nomination for her breakthrough role as Briony Tallis in Atonement (2007), and a Best Actress nomination for her role as Eilis Lacey in Brooklyn (2015). She also received three BAFTA Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations and two Screen Actors Guild nominations.
She had her feature film debut in the romantic comedy I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007), alongside Michelle Pfeiffer. Born in The Bronx, in New York City, Ronan is the only child of Irish parents Monica (née Brennan) and Paul Ronan, who were living in New York City at the time. Her father is also an actor, and her mother had acted as a child. Ronan lived in County Carlow, Ireland, having moved there when she was three years old, before moving to Howth, County Dublin as a teen.
Kimberly Alexis Bledel (born September 16, 1981) is an American actress. She is known for her role as Rory Gilmore in the WB/CW comedy-drama Gilmore Girls. She has since starred in films, including Tuck Everlasting, Sin City, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 and Post Grad.
Bledel was born in Houston, Texas to Nanette (née Dozier), who worked as a gift processor and flight attendant, and Martín Bledel. She has a younger brother, Eric. Her father was born and raised in Argentina. Her paternal grandfather, Enrique Einar Bledel Huus, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was of Danish and distant German descent; Enrique was Vice President of Coca-Cola Latin America and the Coca-Cola Inter-American Corporation. Bledel's paternal grandmother, Jean (née Campbell), was originally from New York, and had Scottish and English ancestry. Bledel's mother, Nanette, was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, at the age of eight; Nanette was raised there, and in Mexico City. Bledel's mother is of Mexican descent. Of her parents' upbringing in Latin America, Bledel has stated "It's the only culture my mom knows from life, and my father as well, and they made the decision to raise their children within the context they had been raised in". Bledel grew up in a Spanish-speaking household, and did not learn English until she began school; she considers herself a Latina.
Violet & Daisy is a 2011 American comedy crime drama film written, produced, and directed by Geoffrey S. Fletcher in his directorial debut after winning an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film Precious. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Danny Trejo, and James Gandolfini in one of his last acting roles before his death on June 19, 2013. Supporting roles are performed by John Ventimiglia, Danny Hoch, and Tatiana Maslany.
