John Hillcoat (born 14 August 1961) is an Australian film director, screenwriter, and music video director.
Hillcoat was born in Queensland, Australia, and was raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. As a child, his paintings were featured in the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
Hillcoat has repeatedly worked with Nick Cave and also the band Depeche Mode. He has also featured actor Guy Pearce multiple times in his works. His film The Road, based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, premiered at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival, and was released in the U.S. in November 2009. His 2012 film, Lawless, competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Hillcoat's next film, Triple 9, is currently scheduled for a release in 2016.
Red Dead Redemption is an open world, western action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in May 2010. It is the second title in the Red Dead franchise, after 2004's Red Dead Revolver. The game, set during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911, follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to justice.
Red Dead Redemption is played from a third-person perspective in an open world environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure. The player can travel the virtual world, a fictionalized version of the Western United States and Mexico, primarily by horseback and on foot. Gunfights emphasize a gunslinger gameplay mechanic called "Dead Eye" that allows players to mark multiple shooting targets on enemies in slow motion. The game makes use of a morality system, by which the player's actions in the game affect their character's levels of honor and fame and how other characters respond to the player. An online multiplayer mode is included with the game, allowing up to 16 players to engage in both co-operative and competitive gameplay in a recreation of the single-player setting.
Triple 9 is an upcoming American heist-thriller film directed by John Hillcoat and written by Matt Cook. The film stars an ensemble cast featuring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Clifton Collins, Jr., Michael K. Williams, Teresa Palmer and Gal Gadot. The film is scheduled to be released on February 26, 2016 in United States by Open Road Films.
The film follows a group of criminals and corrupt cops who find themselves in serious trouble. The Russian mafia is blackmailing them, and the only way to deal with them is to perform what is believed to be an extremely challenging heist. Impossible as it may seem, however, they eventually hatch a plan: on one side of town, half of the crew will plan the murder of a rookie cop named Chris Allen (Casey Affleck), and while the rest of the force is distracted by a 999 call ("officer down"), the other half of the corrupt cops will pull off the job. As everything goes smooth as planned Chris Allen survives and fights back.
Nicholas Edward "Nick" Cave (born 22 September 1957) is an Australian musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional film actor. He is best known as the frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, established in 1983, a group known for its diverse output and ever-evolving line-up. Prior to this, he fronted the Birthday Party, one of the most extreme and confrontational post-punk bands of the early 1980s. In 2006, he formed the garage rock band Grinderman, releasing its debut album the following year.
Referred to as rock music's "Prince of Darkness", Cave's music is generally characterised by emotional intensity, a wide variety of influences, and lyrical obsessions with death, religion, love and violence.NME described him as "the grand lord of gothic lushness".
Cave has also worked as a composer for films, often in collaboration with fellow Australian musician Warren Ellis. Their films together include The Proposition (2005, based on a screenplay by Cave), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), The Road (2009) and Lawless (2012). Cave is the subject and co-writer of the semi-fictional "day in the life" documentary 20,000 Days on Earth (2014).
The Road is a 2006 novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy. It is a post-apocalyptic tale of a journey of a father and his young son over a period of several months, across a landscape blasted by an unspecified cataclysm that has destroyed most of civilization and, in the intervening years, almost all life on Earth. The novel was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction in 2006.
The book was adapted to a film by the same name in 2009, directed by John Hillcoat.
An unnamed father and his young son journey across a grim post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after an unspecified disaster has caused another extinction event, destroying civilization and most life on Earth. The land is filled with ash and devoid of living animals and vegetation. Many of the remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism, scavenging the detritus of city and country alike for flesh. The boy's mother, pregnant with him at the time of the disaster, gave up hope and committed suicide some time before the story began, despite the father's pleas. Much of the book is written in the third person, with references to "the father" and "the son" or to "the man" and "the boy".

With Triple 9 now in theaters, I recently sat down with director John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless) for an extended video interview. During our wide-ranging conversation he talked about working with the all-star cast, the discrepancy between production and marketing budgets, his first cut of Triple 9 vs. his finished film, deleted scenes, if his filmmaking process has changed over the years, and a lot more. In addition, Hillcoat talked about being attached to Drive and The Revenant and what happened to his versions of both projects. If you haven’t seen any of the trailers, Triple 9, scripted by Matt Cook, follows an interconnected web of thieves and corrupt officers who plan to murder a cop in order to draw attention away from the heist they’ll be pulling on the other side of town.
Format: 16mm / Sound: Mono / Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Warnings: Violence and a sex scene. Significant cast: The film features David Argue who performed in Peter Weir’s 1981 ‘Gallipoli’. ‘Frankie and Johnny (We’re Lovers)’, made in 1982 is a rich mixture of the western film genre, combined with the energy and mythology of early 1980s popular music (rockabilly, post-punk & new wave), and the excess and subversion of the music video generation (with MTV first going to air within the 12 months prior to the film’s production). Loosely based on the song ‘Frankie & Johnny’, this film tells the tale of a woman scorned, taking vengeance against her unfaithful man, and plays with a multitude of politically incorrect tropes – turning its ‘devil-may-care’ back on contemporary feminism, indigenous rights ...

If you look close you can see his disguise,
he's got the mind of a killer buried deep in his eyes
It's a different mind than you and me,
one fueled by a pure sense of apathy
T-t-take blood just to get his fill,
he's got a demon inside he can't seem to kill
Another day another dead,
slash his knife til he sees red
There's nothin' left but a drop between glass to stay,
another life is taken away
But not in haste or for waste,
just in time for him to get another taste
Lost, in a state of mind,
lost, lookin' for another of his kind
But his lonely mind is his only friend,
his lonely friend will be with him til the end and she
sang
A lonely whisper in your ear saying the things you
don’t want to hear
With a breath you hear him say on this night, you will
die this way
You will die this way
It's a chilly evening on the West Side,
and D E X is snoopin' around a double wide
All of sudden a page comes through,
Rita's makin' dinner she wants you to come too
He doesn't get hungry when theres blood in the air,
this will be quick he won’t even know I was there
Another day another dead,
somethings wrong up in your head mr. D E X
Gotta kill just to get some rest
another night another bloody success
Now it's clean up time stash away the knives,
and the little brown box holdin' so many lives
I guess for some it's easier to say,
believe it or not, you’re gonna die this way
A lonely whisper in your ear saying the things you
don’t want to hear
With a breath you hear him say on this night, you will
die this way
