Billy Wilder was an Austrian-born American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist and journalist, whose career spanned more than 50 years and 60 films. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant and versatile filmmakers of Hollywood's golden age. Wilder is one of only five people to have won Academy Awards as producer, director and screenwriter for the same film (The Apartment), and was the first person to accomplish this.
Wilder became a screenwriter in the late 1920s while living in Berlin. After the rise of the Nazi Party, Wilder, who wasJewish, left for Paris, where he made his directorial debut. He moved to Hollywood in 1933, and in 1939 he had a hit when he co-wrote the screenplay for the screwball comedy Ninotchka. Wilder established his directorial reputation with Double Indemnity (1944), a film noir he co-wrote with crime novelist Raymond Chandler. Wilder earned the Best Director and Best Screenplay Academy Awards for the adaptation of a Charles R. Jackson story The Lost Weekend(1945), about alcoholism. In 1950, Wilder co-wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Sunset Blvd.
From the mid-1950s on, Wilder made mostly comedies. Among the classics Wilder created in this period are the farces The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959), satires such as The Apartment (1960), and the drama comedy Sabrina (1954). He directed fourteen different actors in Oscar-nominated performances. Wilder was recognized with the American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award in 1986. In 1988, Wilder was awarded theIrving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. In 1993, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.

Billy Wilder (22 June 1906 -- 27 March 2002) was an Austrian-born American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist, and journalist, whose career spanned more than 50 years and 60 films. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant and versatile filmmakers of Hollywood's golden age. Wilder is one of only five people to have won Academy Awards as producer, director, and writer for the same film .
Born Samuel Wilder to a Jewish family in Sucha Beskidzka, Austria-Hungary (now Poland) to Max Wilder and Eugenia Dittler, Wilder was nicknamed Billie by his mother (he changed that to "Billy" after arriving in America). He had an elder brother, William Lee Wilder (1904-1982), who also became a screenwriter, film producer and director. His parents had a successful and well-known cake shop in Sucha Beskidzka's train station and unsuccessfully tried to persuade their son to join the family business. Soon the family moved to Vienna, where Wilder attended school. Instead of attending the University of Vienna Wilder became a journalist. To advance his career Wilder decided to move to Berlin, Germany. While in Berlin, before achieving success as a writer, Wilder allegedly worked as a taxi dancer
Wilder's directorial choices reflected his belief in the primacy of writing. He avoided the exuberant cinematography of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles because, in Wilder's opinion, shots that called attention to themselves would distract the audience from the story. Wilder's pictures have tight plotting and memorable dialogue. Despite his conservative directorial style, his subject matter often pushed the boundaries of mainstream entertainment. Once a subject was chosen, he would begin to visualize in terms of specific artists. His belief was that no matter how talented the actor, none was without limitations and the end result would be better if you bent the script to their personality rather than force a performance beyond their limitations

Wilder became a screenwriter in the late 1920s while living in Berlin. After the rise of the Nazi Party, Wilder, who wasJewish, left for Paris, where he made his directorial debut. He moved to Hollywood in 1933, and in 1939 he had a hit when he co-wrote the screenplay for the screwball comedy Ninotchka. Wilder established his directorial reputation with Double Indemnity (1944), a film noir he co-wrote with crime novelist Raymond Chandler. Wilder earned the Best Director and Best Screenplay Academy Awards for the adaptation of a Charles R. Jackson story The Lost Weekend(1945), about alcoholism. In 1950, Wilder co-wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Sunset Blvd.
From the mid-1950s on, Wilder made mostly comedies. Among the classics Wilder created in this period are the farces The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959), satires such as The Apartment (1960), and the drama comedy Sabrina (1954). He directed fourteen different actors in Oscar-nominated performances. Wilder was recognized with the American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award in 1986. In 1988, Wilder was awarded theIrving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. In 1993, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.

Born Samuel Wilder to a Jewish family in Sucha Beskidzka, Austria-Hungary (now Poland) to Max Wilder and Eugenia Dittler, Wilder was nicknamed Billie by his mother (he changed that to "Billy" after arriving in America). He had an elder brother, William Lee Wilder (1904-1982), who also became a screenwriter, film producer and director. His parents had a successful and well-known cake shop in Sucha Beskidzka's train station and unsuccessfully tried to persuade their son to join the family business. Soon the family moved to Vienna, where Wilder attended school. Instead of attending the University of Vienna Wilder became a journalist. To advance his career Wilder decided to move to Berlin, Germany. While in Berlin, before achieving success as a writer, Wilder allegedly worked as a taxi dancer
Wilder's directorial choices reflected his belief in the primacy of writing. He avoided the exuberant cinematography of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles because, in Wilder's opinion, shots that called attention to themselves would distract the audience from the story. Wilder's pictures have tight plotting and memorable dialogue. Despite his conservative directorial style, his subject matter often pushed the boundaries of mainstream entertainment. Once a subject was chosen, he would begin to visualize in terms of specific artists. His belief was that no matter how talented the actor, none was without limitations and the end result would be better if you bent the script to their personality rather than force a performance beyond their limitations

Born Samuel Wilder to a Jewish family in Sucha Beskidzka, Austria-Hungary (now Poland) to Max Wilder and Eugenia Dittler, Wilder was nicknamed Billie by his mother (he changed that to "Billy" after arriving in America). He had an elder brother, William Lee Wilder (1904-1982), who also became a screenwriter, film producer and director. His parents had a successful and well-known cake shop in Sucha Beskidzka's train station and unsuccessfully tried to persuade their son to join the family business. Soon the family moved to Vienna, where Wilder attended school. Instead of attending the University of Vienna Wilder became a journalist. To advance his career Wilder decided to move to Berlin, Germany. While in Berlin, before achieving success as a writer, Wilder allegedly worked as a taxi dancer
Wilder's directorial choices reflected his belief in the primacy of writing. He avoided the exuberant cinematography of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles because, in Wilder's opinion, shots that called attention to themselves would distract the audience from the story. Wilder's pictures have tight plotting and memorable dialogue. Despite his conservative directorial style, his subject matter often pushed the boundaries of mainstream entertainment. Once a subject was chosen, he would begin to visualize in terms of specific artists. His belief was that no matter how talented the actor, none was without limitations and the end result would be better if you bent the script to their personality rather than force a performance beyond their limitations

Wilder became a screenwriter in the late 1920s while living in Berlin. After the rise of the Nazi Party, Wilder, who wasJewish, left for Paris, where he made his directorial debut. He moved to Hollywood in 1933, and in 1939 he had a hit when he co-wrote the screenplay for the screwball comedy Ninotchka. Wilder established his directorial reputation with Double Indemnity (1944), a film noir he co-wrote with crime novelist Raymond Chandler. Wilder earned the Best Director and Best Screenplay Academy Awards for the adaptation of a Charles R. Jackson story The Lost Weekend(1945), about alcoholism. In 1950, Wilder co-wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Sunset Blvd.
From the mid-1950s on, Wilder made mostly comedies. Among the classics Wilder created in this period are the farces The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959), satires such as The Apartment (1960), and the drama comedy Sabrina (1954). He directed fourteen different actors in Oscar-nominated performances. Wilder was recognized with the American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award in 1986. In 1988, Wilder was awarded theIrving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. In 1993, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts.

Vier der fünf Hauptdarsteller standen das erste Mal vor der Kamera. Die junge Christl Ehlers hatte ein Jahr zuvor eine Hauptrolle in dem Märchenfilm Frau Holle gespielt. Der spätere Oscarpreisträger Billy Wilder verfasste das Drehbuch mit Robert Siodmak nach einer Idee von Roberts Bruder Curt Siodmak. Die Brüder Siodmak machten ebenfalls Karriere im deutschen wie im amerikanischen Film. Edgar G. Ulmer drehte in Hollywood vor allem B-Filme. Seine Entstehungsgeschichte macht den Film zu einem der ersten Independent-Filme und zu einem Vorläufer des Neorealismus der Nachkriegszeit.
Menschen am Sonntag ist ein Film von Robert Siodmak, Edgar G. Ulmer und Billy Wilder. Er wurde von Moriz Seelers Produktionsfirma „Filmstudio 1929" produziert und entstand in den Jahren 1929 und 1930 in Berlin und Umgebung. Die Uraufführung war am 4. Februar 1930. Er zählt zu den späten Vertretern der Neuen Sachlichkeit im Film.

Die Brüder Siodmak machten ebenfalls Karriere im deutschen wie im amerikanischen Film. Edgar G. Ulmer drehte in Hollywood vor allem B-Filme. Seine Entstehungsgeschichte macht den Film zu einem der ersten Independent-Filme und zu einem Vorläufer des Neorealismus der Nachkriegszeit.
Menschen am Sonntag ist ein Film von Robert Siodmak, Edgar G. Ulmer und Billy Wilder. Er wurde von Moriz Seelers Produktionsfirma „Filmstudio 1929" produziert und entstand in den Jahren 1929 und 1930 in Berlin und Umgebung. Die Uraufführung war am 4. Februar 1930. Er zählt zu den späten Vertretern der Neuen Sachlichkeit im Film.

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

Recently inside The Bowery Hotel, Shepard Fairey’s @OBEYclothing threw a launch party to unveil its new Fall 2011 collaborative work with Blanda Eggenschwiler. We at Milliframe got a chance to catch up with the creative mind, Blanda, behind the scenes and asks all those questions the public so eagerly would want to ask. First we like to thank the staff at Bowery Hotel (@boweryhotelnyc) for the overall hospitality and for providing us with one of the most picturesque spaces to conduct this interview. We believe it was definitely a driving force and medium in providing a forum fit for this interaction.
The feminine form being a key component in her designs were reminiscent of actress Edwige Fenech pose in her 1972 film poster “Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I have the Key” or famous sport illustrated model Paulina Porizkova in her 1980s pose with her black cat on the cover of Cosmopolitan. Both women being strong feminine iconic examples in their respective field and time. Using her keen artistic expression Blanda has achieved her objective to create pieces that embody opposites and/or contradictions in fashion from the rose accents to the elizabethan collar flared out on one side. Lady Luck holding a “Black Cat”?! Kudos!
These piece's echoes a few of the most iconic femme fatale's of our time if its not apparent I suggest you revisit Billy Wilder’s”The Seven Year Itch”. A beautiful form masqueraded in multiple textiles with an overlay of text covering her more intimate features perhaps suggesting that if we pay closer attention to her content rather then her appearance we could fully understand her intentions.

Abstract
What moves us to action? Through this sound scape project we will explore music’s influence on social movements/events in the U.S. and abroad during times of war and peace (ie. The Civil Rights Movement, Apartheid, Occupy Wall Street and Nigeria, The L.A. Riots, Arab Spring, and anti-war movement of the Vietnam War).
Think about what movements in history have caused/pushed all people to act no matter their race, religion, age, and/or class? What did music do for these movements and for the people that sacrificed their lives for change?
Descriptive Summary
This is an exploration of music’s role in driving social movements.
With Occupy Wall Street right next door to the students at The New School I wanted to understand why more people and myself in general had not gotten involved in OWS.
I know that we are individuals who are passionate, who are fed up and who want to see some kind of real changes in the world. But at the same time there is this overwhelming sense powerlessness.
OWS is supposed to be a movement where ALL people take to the streets, right? Because of the lack of affordable health care, student loan debt, unemployment, injustice, inequality, etc. Are we not affected by it all? Or is it a lack of inspiration?
The project:
Interview “representatives” of these movements to discuss the power of music in social movements. A diverse mix of professors, SNCC members, students, sympathizers, protesters, etc. from all walks of life sharing their experiences during particular social movements.

The participants were asked the same set of 5 questions and asked to share some songs that was most reminiscent to them during the movement they were involved in.
When listening to the soundtrack the listener will be put in the “world/time” of these events experiencing first hand the stories of how music inspired and brought comfort to the individuals involved in certain movements.

How do you think the songs resonated with the people of that time period?
What issues, if any, are brought up in the song?
How effective is the song as a social protest?
How does the song make you feel?
Think about how music has played a key role in the movements shared in this sound scape project and the state of main stream music today.

What moves us to action? Through this sound scape project we will explore music’s influence on social movements/events in the U.S. and abroad during times of war and peace (ie. The Civil Rights Movement, Apartheid, Occupy Wall Street and Nigeria, The L.A. Riots, Arab Spring, and anti-war movement of the Vietnam War).
Think about what movements in history have caused/pushed all people to act no matter their race, religion, age, and/or class? What did music do for these movements and for the people that sacrificed their lives for change?
Descriptive Summary
This is an exploration of music’s role in driving social movements.
With Occupy Wall Street right next door to the students at The New School I wanted to understand why more people and myself in general had not gotten involved in OWS.
I know that we are individuals who are passionate, who are fed up and who want to see some kind of real changes in the world. But at the same time there is this overwhelming sense powerlessness.
OWS is supposed to be a movement where ALL people take to the streets, right? Because of the lack of affordable health care, student loan debt, unemployment, injustice, inequality, etc. Are we not affected by it all? Or is it a lack of inspiration?
The project:
Interview “representatives” of these movements to discuss the power of music in social movements. A diverse mix of professors, SNCC members, students, sympathizers, protesters, etc. from all walks of life sharing their experiences during particular social movements.

The participants were asked the same set of 5 questions and asked to share some songs that was most reminiscent to them during the movement they were involved in.
When listening to the soundtrack the listener will be put in the “world/time” of these events experiencing first hand the stories of how music inspired and brought comfort to the individuals involved in certain movements.
Things to think about as the song(s) play during this sound scape:
How do you think the songs resonated with the people of that time period?
What issues, if any, are brought up in the song?
How effective is the song as a social protest?
How does the song make you feel?
Think about how music has played a key role in the movements shared in this sound scape project and the state of main stream music today.

Wilder became a screenwriter in the late 1920s while living in Berlin. After the rise of the Nazi Party, Wilder, who wasJewish, left for Paris, where he made his directorial debut. He moved to Hollywood in 1933, and in 1939 he had a hit when he co-wrote the screenplay for the screwball comedy Ninotchka. Wilder established his directorial reputation with Double Indemnity (1944), a film noir he co-wrote with crime novelist Raymond Chandler. Wilder earned the Best Director and Best Screenplay Academy Awards for the adaptation of a Charles R. Jackson story The Lost Weekend(1945), about alcoholism. In 1950, Wilder co-wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Sunset Blvd.
