An alchemist is a person who practices alchemy. Alchemist may also refer to:
Atelier is the French word for "workshop" or "studio"; in English it is used primarily for the private workshop or studio of a professional artist in the fine or decorative arts, where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing pieces of fine art or visual art released under the master's name or supervision.
This was the standard vocational practice for European artists from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, and common elsewhere in the world. In medieval Europe such a way of working and form of visual or fine art education was often enforced by local guild regulations, of the painters' Guild of Saint Luke, and those of other guilds for other crafts. Apprentices usually began young, working on simple tasks, and after some years became journeymen, before becoming masters themselves. The system was gradually replaced as the once powerful guilds declined, and the academy became a favored method of training, although many professional artists continued to use students and assistants, some paid by the artist, some paying fees to learn.
Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book (Japanese: ソフィーのアトリエ~不思議な本の錬金術士~, Hepburn: Sofī no Atorie ~ Fushigi na Hon no Renkinjutsushi ~) is a 2015 Japanese role-playing video game developed by Gust Co. Ltd. for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. It is the 17th main game in the "Atelier" series.
The game features a completely reformed world view from earlier titles within the series, in addition to a new alchemy-centric system. Sophie is able to obtain ideas for recipes from activities such as harvesting, exploring, battling, or from events, and these ideas are used as a basis of improving her knowledge of alchemy. When she performs alchemy, the player is presented with various predetermined shapes representing the ingredients used, and arranges each shape on a puzzle board that represents the cauldron. This process involves visual trial-and-error, and if the shapes are arranged perfectly, the player receives a bonus. The materials selected affect the quality of the item synthesised. This system is intended to offer a high degree of freedom based on the player's own play style.
Alchemy is a philosophical and protoscientific tradition practiced throughout Egypt and Eurasia which aimed to purify, mature, and perfect certain objects. Common aims were chrysopoeia, the transmutation of "base metals" (e.g., lead) into "noble" ones (particularly gold); the creation of an elixir of immortality; the creation of panaceas able to cure any disease; and the development of an alkahest, a universal solvent. The perfection of the human body and soul was thought to permit or result from the alchemical magnum opus and, in the Hellenistic and western tradition, the achievement of gnosis. In Europe, the creation of a philosopher's stone was variously connected with all of these projects.
In English, the term is often limited to descriptions of European alchemy, but similar practices existed in the Far East, the Indian subcontinent, and the Muslim world. In Europe, following the 12th-century Renaissance produced by the translation of Arabic works on science and the Recovery of Aristotle, alchemists played a significant role in early modern science (particularly chemistry and medicine). Islamic and European alchemists developed a structure of basic laboratory techniques, theory, terminology, and experimental method, some of which are still in use today. However, they continued antiquity's belief in four elements and guarded their work in secrecy including cyphers and cryptic symbolism. Their work was guided by Hermetic principles related to magic, mythology, and religion.
Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland (ロロナのアトリエ ~アーランドの錬金術師~, Rorona no Atorie ~Aarando no Renkinjutsushi~) is a Japanese role-playing video game developed by Gust Co. Ltd.. It was first released for PlayStation 3 on June 25, 2009, in Japan and re-released as a Japanese Best Version on September 23, 2010, due to its sales figures. The North American release followed on September 28, 2010, along with a European release on October 22, 2010 and an Australia release on October 28, 2010.
Atelier Rorona is the eleventh installment in the Atelier series, and it continues the series' emphasis on item synthesis. The game is the first title in the series to be developed for PlayStation 3, and it is also the first to utilize 3D models as opposed to the 2D sprites in earlier titles. A sequel titled Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland, which takes place five years after the end of Atelier Rorona, was released in Japan on June 24, 2010.
Gust released a remake of Atelier Rorona titled Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on November 21, 2013 in Japan, and a western release is June 2014. In Australia, it received a rating of "R18+" for "Sexual Violence".
