Iseo & Dodosound "Roots In The Air" 2017

Iseo & Dodosound is a duo from Spain, and this is their new and 2nd album Roots In The Air (what a lovely album art). Musically it's some kinda roots reggae (with vibes of both lover's rock and 1st wave dance hall), but there's also a nice and welcome electronic (by Dodosound) setting that makes this wonderful album such a timeless feel. This is a very groovy and moody album, much thanks to Iseo's (aka Leire Villanueva) soft and cool vocal. Support the band here, ans Iseo here. Sadly their homepage are in spanish only. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Alfa Mist "Antiphon" 2017

Alfa Mist is based in the UK and are a multi talented instrumentalist (key instrument are piano/keyboard), composer and producer. On Atiphon he created a landscape of his own - a warm and melancholy jazz spiced with alternative hip-hop and deep soul. Most of the album are instrumental and pretty groovy, but there are also some tracks with vocals, and a couple of them include conversations with his brothers about mental illness. The album was released by himself this spring and has already sold out. This is an import album in many ways (and what a lovely album cover!), hope he find a label who will release his work wider soon. Support him here. Highly recommended. Groovy!

Jah Woosh "Chalice Blaze" 1975

Jah Woosh (aka Neville Beckford) wes born in Jamaica 1952, died 2011. He was an extrordinary dee jay and record producer, sadly overlooked the last decades. Chalis Blaze was released in 1975 (some says 1976) and are a string of wonderful roots dee jay and dub. He made a bunch of 7inches in the 70s, and albums as well. Tragically there are nearly nothing reissued by the guy, neither on vinyl or cd (only a Rhino collection from the early 90s). I hope someone will take care of this before he's work will be forgotten. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Chico Freeman ‎"Kings Of Mali" 1977

Tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman was born in Chicago in 1949 and is still active, support him here. Kings Of Mali is a lovely and spiritual modern post-bop, free jazz album from 1977. The music is inspired by the african history and The Empire Of Mali, and it includes vibraphone by Jay Hoggard  and diverse "exotic" percussion from Famoudou Don Moye. This record will absolutely blow your mind, and release your soul for about half an hour. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Judy Nylon & Crucial "Pal Judy" 1982

This gem by Judy Nylon & Crucial from 1982 is very overlooked and never got a reissue (legal). Some call this album "rock reggae", to me that term sounds horrible and unlistenable. The music on this album is very dark and moody (sounds a bit like Siouxsie & The Banshees goes dub), has a nice post-punk vibe with a lot of dub (and deep reggae beat as well). I hope someone will re-release this lovely album in the near future. Groovy!

Enjoy!

EP-4 ‎"Lingua Franca-1" 1983

EP-4 was a very groovy band from Japan that mixed electronic music, new wave and funk with a punk attitude, today their early stuff sounded very similar to the likes of Liquid Liquid and The Pop Group. The two front figures were named Kauro Sato and Banana Kawashima, and Lingua Franca-1 was their 1983 debut. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Big Youth "Dreadlocks Dread" 1975

Big Youth's true classic from 1975, one of the best albums that ever came out of Jamaica. But how in the world did they think when creating the album cover? Groovy!

VA - City Pop: Groovy Sounds From Japan 1976-1983

Well, this is a mixtape I made with City Pop, the genre is actually a mish mash of the american soft rock/yacht rock, soul/disco, jazz-funk,  acoustic, fusion, west coast, etc, the thing with city pop is that it's performed/recorded by japanese peopple in Japan, in their own way. Everybody knows the japanese folks are the best copy cats of all time, and threre is no secret that they are very good instrumentalists, song writers and musicians as well. The scene is still active and very huge in Japan, but since the mid to late 80s the focus is just on pop (sadly), the groove isn't in focus anymore, to be honest. I find the genre from the 70s to the mid 80s very enjoable and groovy. Hope some of you feel the same way. Groovy!

Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm ‎"A Black Man's Soul" 1969

This instrumental LP was recorded in 1969 in diverse local studios doing the Ike & Tina Turner Reveu tour. A Black Man's Soul includes 12 funky soul jams, most of them are killers, and many of the tracks are heavy sampled by the hip hop scene in the 90s and 2000s. This is groovy!

Enjoy!

Luis Gasca ‎"The Little Giant" 1969

Louis Gasca
was born in Texas 1940 (by mexican origins), through the 60s he played with musicians like Stan Kenton and Mongo Santamaria, and later in the decade he become to work on highly acclaimed albums by both Santana and Janis Joplin.  In 1969 he released his first own LP The Little Giant. The music is groovy mix of soul-jazz, latin aith the typical of time funky vibe. Groovy!

Super Cat "Boops!" 1986

Super Cat (aka William Anthony Maragh) was a highly infuental DJ and in some way even a rapper in the late 70s and 80s in Jamaica. Boops! from 1986 is a great example where  the 2nd wave of jamaican dancehall meets hip hop. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Michael Prophet "Know The Right" 1981

One of Kingston's finest singers ever, Michael Prophet. This 1981 album was arranged and produced by the mighty Vivian Jackson. Groovy roots reggae with his own touch of  dub.

A. Doeman And I & I Sound ‎"Natty Result" 1981

I don't much about this LP or artist at all. I think this it's an american-jamaican artist who recorded this album in L.A. around 1981 (some says 1982)?  The production is in nice lo-fi, and the music is roots reggae with some dub effects and melodica. It sounds like Lee Perry should have the hang over of his life and made a record approximately. But, it's very charming and groovy!

Richard Wahnfried "Time Actor" 1979

This is a marvelous LP by Klaus Schulze under the pseudonym Richard Wahnfried from 1979. Time Actor is a really time less piece of art - it could have been recorded today by an intellectual but introvert indie-act. This music is some kind of groovy electronic restrained lo-fi-new wave with kraut rock elements. A true overlooked master piece in the so called "2nd wave of kraut rock". Groovy!

Enjoy!

The Independent Movement "Slippin’ Away" 1978

This is a very moody and groovy soul album from 1978 by The Independent Movement (their only release), a couple of tracks have a more typical of time disco-vibe. Groovy!

Enjoy!

C.S. Crew "Funky Pack" 1976

A true gem from Nigeria released back in 1976, amazing afro-funk with elements of soul and rock. The album got properly reissued in 2013 by Cultures Of Soul Records, support them here. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Clarence Wheeler & The Enforcers "Doin' What We Wanna" 1970

Wonderful work by tenor saxophonist Clarence Wheeler and his gang on this groovy and instrumental soul album from 1970, in parts very funky and sometimes with a more moody soul-jazz touch. One of the coolest albums Atlantic Records put out in 1970. Groovy!

Enjoy!

Pat Martino ‎"Consciousness" 1974

Consciousness is a very groovy jazz/fusion from 1974 by the italian-american guitar player Pat Martino. The music had some typical mid 70s criminal/detective vibes, and his take on John Coltrane's Impressions is a winner! Groovy!

Enjoy!

Walter Bishop Jr "Soul Village" 1977

Amazing album from 1977 by the american and new yorker pianist and composer Walter Bishop Jr. This is a true soul-jazz gem with moody and funky vibes. Among the musicians on the record are Mark Egan, Randy Becker, Steve Kahn and Ed Soph. Groovy!
