What's in the 2017 ACT budget for Woden

Those bemoaning a lack of investment in Woden in the past few years will no doubt be clamouring for news about stage two of light rail.

Thankfully, Tuesday's ACT budget has deliver a few extra details on what will be done over the next few years to move that project forward.

More than $53.5 million is budgeted over the next term of government to put together the business case and procure services to bring the tram from Civic to Woden.

Originally the business case for stage two of light rail was projected to cost $25 million.

However recent estimates put that cost at about $16 million - $3.5 million this financial year and $13.2 million in 2017-18.

The government will also spend $3267 on procurement for the Woden leg of the light rail this coming financial year.

It will include undercover bus parking as well as maintenance , refuelling and bus washing facilities.

The government will spend $160,000 scoping out the construction of multi-purpose indoor sports centres in Woden, Gungahlin and Belconnen.

Book lovers in Woden can also rejoice.

The government has announced $3.2 million to revitalise the Woden Library.

There will also be $3 million to begin work on the new building at the Canberra Hospital, to be called the "SPIRE Centre".

Wanniassa is set for a new supermarket with 7600 square metres of commercial land to be released at Erindale Shopping Centre.

Most of the money coming to Woden was already known before budget day though.
