They found three injured men. One, aged 46, was rushed to Tweed Heads Hospital where he died from stab wounds to his chest a short time later.

An 18-year-old man was also taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest and shoulder.

A third man, aged 29, suffered minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

Vision of the brawl, broadcast by Seven News, shows a man trying to run away as he is chased by a man with a knife. The fleeing man turns sideways and puts his hand out, before it appears he is stabbed in the torso.

The vision, taken on a mobile phone, later shows paramedics at the scene performing CPR on the most seriously injured of the men, as a woman shouts "My husband can't breathe, get over here, help."

Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested at the park and taken to Tweed Heads police station.

He was charged overnight with murder, two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and larceny.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the brawl started as a fist fight.

"I just watched three people get stabbed, I think one of them has passed away," one of the witnesses said.

Seven News reported that the man who died was the father of the teenager left in a critical condition.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said officers believed "a large number of people" were involved in the brawl.

Police said investigations were continuing, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
