Long time reader, first time commenter. (Saw you speak at Philadelphia University years ago, in fact brought the entire studio to the presentation. It was a great talk!)
As thoughtful as you are as a designer, I wanted to see if you ever thought about a ‘smart’ trunactor. One that knows that with only a few words left, to just include all the copy and not show the ‘continue’ reading link. Or one that truncates sooner so there is a decent amount of content left to read after the click.

Hi Khoi, I came across your old post about people asking you about getting an UX Graduate degree and I thought I’d add my name to that list. I have a degree in Design but I’m thinking about getting an Industrial Design graduate degree with the end goal of becoming an Interaction/Usability professional. However, I’m concerned about taking on more debt so I wanted to ask you about how you became an UX designer without schooling and get your advice about alternative paths that I can consider. Hey Khoi, i bought your Book – Ordering Disorder – Grid Principles for Web Design and even it is a bit old i’ve started reading it and i enjoy reading it. I’m a web design student and i want to really know, how to make a good grid decision for my web projects. My Question is: Do these planning principles and the execution still apply for responsive web design? Sorry, i’m confused about grid systems and stuff. I planned for example a 12-grid so i calculated 1/12*100 = 8.333333333333% and so on till i got 12 (sm-1 8.333%, sm-2 16,666666666667), then i used this for media queries with small devices, mid devices and large devices. For all the devices the same percentage base columns. Or should i recalculate the grid based on the media queries breakpoints for example, say max-width 600px (later 600px calculated to em’s). I can’t find anything on the Internet that is describing that problem. Sorry, maybe i’m overthink that matter and i should just stick to a 12-grid or 16-grid system for all purposes. Hope you can help me? Today i will start Chapter 2.
