Like most people, I don’t pay much attention to Canadian politics. This is true even of those of us who live in the territory it controls. Especially these days, with an evil clown in charge of the United States government, the eyes of people in Canada are pretty fixed on the other side of the border. When people do bother to think about Canada, it’s usually to praise a political icon who has become an object of envy for progressives around the world — Justin Trudeau. We take short breaks from watching the Trump circus to be vaguely relieved to see a handsome young man marching in the pride parade, or being friends with refugees, or having his cabinet be half women.

But what the heck is Justin Trudeau? What role does he play in the ongoing capitalist, colonial project that is Canada? How does he relate to the ten years of conservative government that preceded him? And what does it mean to resist a state lead by a political figure like him?

Celebrations of the canadian state's 150th anniversary are well underway and are looking to heat up as we approach July 1st. Over the past couple of months a few of us have been attempting to put together a website/multimedia project against the canada 150 project as well as to put forward ideas that are against the state, colonization, capitalism, and all the misery that "canada" has meant for so many people.

On March 22, as transportation planet Mercury in Aries formed a square to "illegitimate power and hierarchy" Pluto in Capricorn, the neo-conservative Brad Wall government in Saskatchewan, my home province, announced in its budget that it will be shutting down the province's bus system.

Yes, that's right. No public debate, no public consultation, no transportation alternatives offered. It's just over because Brad Wall and his buddies say it is.

This week Hamilton had the unfortunate distinction of being the only city on Eva Bartlett’s Canadian tour to host not one, but two presentations by the self-described independent journalist. In the days since, some of us have been asked by people in the Hamilton activist scene our thoughts on the events and, given that anarchists were publicly named as opponents of the event, “authoritarian” ones at that (the irony is not lost on us), we would like to clarify some thoughts.

July 1 is the day that people across Kanada get together to rally around a common theme-Kanada. But what does it really mean to celebrate this day?

Kanada is a country founded on the expansion of capitalism and domination.

It is based on genocide and the theft of this continent.

It is based on years of violence towards native peoples, but relies on imperialism to exist.
