Planning to unite our Australian and North American family in Hawaii for Christmas. Total 11 people, 3-75 years. Any suggestions on which island? I understand it's pricey at Christmas? M. Pohlenz, Highton VIC
My choice would be Kauai, which comes straight from the tropical book of earthly wonders.
Somewhere close to the town of Hanalei, and preferably a private house rather than a hotel or resort.
While houses look expensive, when you divide the total cost among 11 people, and bearing in mind that Christmas is peak season, you'll save over the cost of hotel accommodation.
Both Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com.au/ and HomeAway https://www.homeaway.com have several choices.
Properties that would accommodate all are not so plentiful and you might consider splitting your group between two houses.
TIPOLOGIST
Confusion exists between "direct" flights and "non-stop". Direct means your flight includes at least one stop en route but aboard the same aircraft using the same flight number. Non-stop means just that.
