Oldschool Chicago Blues & Soul Album, produced and arranged by Ori Naftaly. The album was recorded on four Dates, of 4-5 hours. Recorded live and mixed at LUNA Studios, The album reflects the power, soul, feel and energy that are present every time Ori Naftaly and his band come together on stage for a Blues & Soul concert.
The Album features a group of guests from London, Chicago, Colorado and Israel who lead the Israeli Blues scene today. "When I realized it's the right time to begin this production, I decided to produce an album that would bring me back to who I am and where I came from. Since I was a child I would listen and play along with old Blues records from the collection we had at home, and it became the sound of my childhood. Since then I grew into different music Genres, but with this album I went back to the Blues. I am blessed to have great musicians who played with me in this project, my band and singers. They all inspire me to continue what I'm doing. It was important for me to record the songs live, with hardly any overdubing, so we can create a more dynamic and geniune sound. Basically as close as we could get to the old Muddy Waters albums I used to listen to. It is a combination of the 2012 sound, and songs from the 1920's and the 1960's"

This first album shows the superb style of Steve Roux emerging to one of the best guitar singer of blues this country has ever had.
Based in the south of England, guitarist and vocalist Roux is a member of the White Knuckle Blues Band. This is usually a trio with Robin Vick (bass) and Bernie Fox (drums), but occasionally they add musicians such as Matt Beckwith (harmonica). The band has released two albums, 1998’s Raw Knuckles and 2003’s Can’t Change The Time. In the early 90s Roux played in Germany, appearing on the same bills as Albert Collins, Robben Ford and John Hammond. In the early 00s, he sometimes played with drummer Mark Brzezicki, bass player Steve Brzezicki, keyboard player Josh Phillips and guitarist Damon Hill, the latter formerly a noted motor racing driver. This group was known as Dad’s Army and also as Hill’s band, the Conrods, in which they were joined by vocalist Robert Hart.

Polly O'Keary and The Rhythm Method - Black Crow Callin'

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2017
Time: 46:45
Size: 107,2 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Hard Hearted World - 3:52
 2. A Man Who Can Stand - 5:04
 3. Red Light - 3:42
 4. Black Crow Callin' - 5:35
 5. Yours To Lose - 3:58
 6. One Life - 5:09
 7. Reconciled - 6:05
 8. I Don't Understand - 4:59
 9. Plan B - 2:57
10. I Am The One - 5:21

2003\'s critically acclaimed independently released CD (produced by Stephen Doster) that caught Bob Dylan\'s ear and led to the recording of 2008\'s \"Miss Understood\".
Blues-rocker Carolyn Wonderland is a singer/songwriter/pianist/ trumpeter/guitarist from Texas. She began performing solo as a teen and then later with her band the Imperial Monkeys. While firmly entrenched in blues-rock, Wonderland and her group sport a diverse range of other influences, from country to zydeco to surf to Latin to boogie, and even jazz. The group has performed and toured with such similarly minded predecessors as B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, the Allman Brothers, Delbert McClinton, and Buddy Miles. Before relocating from her hometown of Houston to Austin, TX, Wonderland picked up a slew of awards in the Houston press, including best female vocalist seven out of eight years running. Wonderland, whose powerful voice garners frequent comparisons to Janis Joplin, was first inspired to get on the stage after seeing local outfit Little Screamin' Kenny & the Sideliners at the Houston club Fitzgerald's. Wonderland released her debut, Play With Matches, on the independent Big Mo label in 1995. In subsequent years, she continued to release albums and tour the U.S., leading the Imperial Monkeys through several incarnations. ~ Erik Hage

Can a German play the Blues?
Guitarist/singer Kai Strauss grew up in a small working class town in northern Germany. He discovered his passion for the music of Albert King, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan and many others as a teenager in the 1980s through his parents’ record collection. Soon, countless nights at the local blues jams followed, and from the 1990s on you could find him on stages all over Europe alongside Texas harmonica player Memo Gonzalez. After 15 years on the road with Gonzalez, Strauss started fronting his own group The Electric Blues All-Stars. Kai Strauss now presents his third album “Getting Personal” on the Dutch label Continental Blue Heaven/CRS, and continues to follow his own course with the more contemporary sound that he presented on his award-winning sophomore album “I Go By Feel”. Strauss, who enjoys an excellent reputation for his spicy Texas Blues guitar licks, adds fresh Chicago & Memphis flavors to his musical gumbo on this new studio effort. “Getting Personal” features lots of tasteful guitar playing - from the dirty funkiness of “The Blues Is Handmade” (written by a good friend of the band, Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Inductee Tommie Harris) to the expressive soulfulness of “Blues for Anne”, an intense 9 minutes of moaning guitar dedicated to the memory of Strauss’ mother. You will also encounter honest, confident vocals, original songwriting, and an outstanding groove that is hard to find this side of the big pond. Together with fabulous guest appearances by US saxophone export No. 1 Sax Gordon, the wonderfully strong yet sensitive voice of Big Daddy Wilson from North Carolina, and Houston guitar ace Tony Vega, this package of 11 brand new titles represents a new peak in Kai Strauss’ career, and should be the next step up for this serious and already highly respected artist in the international blues & roots world.

The Mick Pini Band - Blues Gonna Be My Way

Bitrate: 320K/s

Label: 66 Records
Styles: Blues
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Avenue 54 - 4:01
 2. I Feel So Bad - 7:01
 3. Watch Out - 2:53
 4. Woke Up This Morning - 4:09
 5. Third Degree - 6:03

 7. Looking For Somebody - 3:19
 8. Last Night - 5:32
 9. Hard Times - 3:58
10. Like A Road - 5:31
11. Wash Out - 4:08

Musicians:
Mick Pini - vocals, guitar, harp;
Julian Grudgings - vocals, keyboards;
Roger Innes - bass;
Paul Barnes - drums.

Mick's  long awaited CD has  been  released in good time for his 1999 British tour.  Mick  appeared regularly at venues in the East Midlands until he moved to Germany a couple of years ago, now audiences don't get the opportunity to see this underrated guitar master in action very often, more's the pity!
The CD opens with the instrumental warm-up track 'Avenue 54', featuring Julian Grudgings' hammond organ backing  Mick's  first guitar workout which draws to a close with the mournful guitar solo leading deftly into the  band's  version of Chuck Willis's 'I Feel So Bad'.  Mick's  bluesy vocals  are  complimented by his superb guitar work throughout, as well as the sensitive bass work of Graham Lacey.
Mick  began his musical career around the same period as Peter Green, & his playing  is  at times similar to the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist's, this CD features two Peter Green songs, the third track 'Watch Out'  being  the first. The  band's  version of this classic  is  slower than the original, the pounding drums  are  more laid back here too. Now's probably a good time to mention that Mike Vernon who produced the Fleetwood Mac albums from which 'Watch Out' came has also produced this album some 30 years on, & guested on percussion.
Mick's  music  is  very much in the mould of the  blues , despite the 'Wildman' nickname you won't find him thrashing out  blues  rock, as the title of this album suggests  blues   gonna   be   Mick's   way ! He follows the Peter Green song with B.B. King's 'Woke Up This Morning'
There's a marked charge in tempo for 'Third Degree', soft piano & quietly played guitar provides a solemn background for a song about accusations - the suspect seems resigned to his fate, the third degree tactics claim another innocent man! The song showcases  Mick's  ability not only play flamboyant guitar solos that leave his audiences breathless, but to play those sensitive pieces that have people reaching for their pints! Surely the original Eddie Boyd / Willie Dixon version could have  been  no more haunting than this, just savour that guitar!
There's a cover of Roosevelt Sykes 'Driving Wheel' the abrupt ending comes a bit of a surprise. This  is  followed by the second Peter Green song 'Looking For Somebody' the title of the CD comes from a line in this song.  Mick's  vocals lend themselves especially to this style of blues & here especially his guitar playing  is  remarkably similar too!
'Last Night'  is  an interesting diversion, featuring some evocative harmonica work from an unnamed harp player, this Little Walter song adds to the solemn atmosphere of the CD's mood.  Blues   is  most definitely  Mick's   way , if you enjoy the  blues  as the  blues , this  is  the album for you,
Mick's  own song 'Hard Times' follows, Mike Hellier's fine drumming provides the lively beat, the song seems to cast off the impending difficulties that  are  relayed in the lyrics.
'Like A Road' has a gospel feel, 'turn around, I'll  be  there, like a road leading home' the hard times, the sad times, the  blues  will soon  be  behind you, an uplifting song. There's some fine slide guitar work from special guest Al Sansome & this  is  followed by  Mick's  soulful guitar. Written by Dan Penn & Don Nix, Penn  is  better known for songs such as 'I'm Your Puppet' a hit for James & Bobby Purify & 'Do Right Woman' (Aretha Franklin), whilst Don Nix  was  a member of The Markeys who backed Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett & Sam & Dave. Seemingly a surprising choice for a  Mick   Pini   Band  album but one that works remarkably well!
As we started so we close, with an instrumental, Freddie King & Sonny Thompson's 'Wash Out'. Here the spirit & the guitar flies, & that's what the  blues   is  about, OK times may  be  sad, but through the  blues  the spirit will soar once more. For those not touched by the  blues , this point  is  often missed, the  blues  reflects life, but no-one wants to  be  unhappy all the time, the  blues  music came from people living in a harsh background, but Saturday nights they wanted to Boogie!
As always,  Mick  & the  band   are  in great form on this album, which is only the band's fourth in 10 years, catch them in action at a venue near you during September (see Fizgig  Blues  listings for details), 'Blues  Gonna  Be  My   Way ' will be available at gigs, but if you can't make any of these dates you can purchase a copy from Blumberg Records, 63 Priest Meadow, Fleckney, Leicester. LE 8 8 TZ, cheques for £13.50 made payable to Blumberg Records.

"As well as touring Europe with B.B. King and supporting such blues greats as Buddy Guy, Freddie King and Jimmy Rogers: Mick Pini has earned himself a strong following, particularly in Europe. Eric Clapton described him in 1996 as ‘The legitimate successor to Peter Green’. However, Mick Pini is unquestionably a unique living legend in his own right ... the genuine article. His authentic voice and outstanding guitar work personifies the blues in an inimitable way.
Mick has toured the world for more than 40 year. He lives, breathes, plays and sings the blues with genuine passion even his 1954 Fender Stratocaster smokes!
1998 saw the band winning the prestigious ‘Blues Band of the Month’ award at ‘Talkin Blues’ in Cologne. In January 1999 the band recorded their definitive album ‘Blues Gonna Be My Way’. It saw the most welcome return of Mike Vernon as producer. Mike produced Mick’s ‘Wildman’ album in 1989. This featured A.B. Burns, Chris Youlden and Paul Jones, and sold over 20,000 copies.
Mick has also recently recorded an album with Jimmy Carl Black and Roy Estrada (ex Little Feat and Mothers of Invention and Captain Beefheart)."
