With an early press start this past Saturday, several games and information couldn’t make it into Sunday’s paper. Here’s what we missed:

Rainier wins district title: The Columbian girls pulled to an early lead and held on behind 18 Desirae Hansen points to go with 12 rebounds and eight assists to top Portland Adventist 48-43 in the District 1 title game. The Columbians will enter the OSAA 3A State Playoffs as the No. 6 seed and will host Burns at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Naselle girls fall to Taholah: In the Southwest District 1B Tournament, the Comets narrowly dropped to the Chitwhins 36-28. The Comets owned two wins over Taholah in the league season but couldn’t mount enough offense to capture the district title. The Comets will still move into the 1B regionals though, as they face Neah Bay at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School.

Three Rivers girls’ season ends: The Eagles playoff run came to a close Saturday with a 50-30 district crossover defeat to Yakama Nation Tribal School. Bailee Wallace scored 15 points but TRC’s season ends at 8-6.

Local wrestling coaches honored at Mat Classic: Kelso’s Bob Freund, Castle Rock’s Joe Godinho and Ilwaco’s Kevin McNulty all were named coach of the year of their respective classifications Saturday at the Tacoma Dome. Freund led the Scotties to a second-place Class 3A finish, McNulty’s Fishermen finished third in Class B and Godinho’s Rockets qualified 12 wrestlers to the event, finishing 14th overall. Also, both Kelso boys’ and girls’ teams were named academic state champions.

And some more all-league teams were released...

Ehrhorn makes first team: Castle Rock’s Nakayla Ehrhorn was the Rockets’ lone selection on the Trico 1A all-league first team. The junior averaged more than 16 points per game, as her team finished in a tie for the final playoff spot before tiebreaker rules eliminated CR.

La Center’s Taylor Stephens was named league MVP and the Wildcats’ Herm VanWeerdhuizen was selected coach of the year. On the boys’ side, La Center’s Jake Wise was named MVP and King’s Way Christian’s Daven Harmeling was picked as coach of the year.

Tapio gets on first team: Ilwaco’s Zac Tapio was the Fishermen’s lone representative on the Pacific 2B all-league team. The senior averaged nearly 14 points per game for the Fishermen, who finished second in the league. Life Christian’s Luke Lovelady and Mark Lovelady were named MVP and coach of the year, respectively.
