Fergie leaves Black Eyed Peas... or does she

It's been a confusing weekend for the Black Eyed Peas and their fans.

On Saturday it was sort of revealed the group's female vocalist, Fergie, had left the band after performing with them for about 15 years.

Manchester unites for Grande concert

Ariana Grande's star-studded One Love Manchester concert goes ahead despite the latest London terror attack.

The rumour mill began swirling last month when Fergie left Interscope records to pursue her own deal with BMG, with the intention of releasing a follow up to 2006's The Dutchess.

Following the announcement of the move between labels, band mate Taboo tweeted a sceptical dig at Fergie, including a photo of the band's original album artwork (pre-Fergie). The tweet read "Classic @BEP." Taboo then unfollowed Fergie.

During all this the Black Eyed Peas were recruited to perform at the One Love Manchester concert which Fergie had been widely expected to appear at, but she was replaced by Ariana Grande for the performance.

Will.i.am, Taboo, and apl.de.ap, recently spoke to Ahlan!, an English-language UAE entertainment magazine, about the sticky situation.

"Since the beginning of Black Eyed Peas, we've always had amazing vocalists that appeared on the mic with us. People like Macy Gray, Esthero, Debi Nova, Fergie. On Elephunk, there were several females that appeared on that album," will.i.am said.

"Obviously Fergie was the featured female, but on songs like 'Let's Get it Started,' it's Noelle [Scaggs], and then Fergie, songs like 'Latin Girls,' it's Debi Nova, and 'Request Line,' it's Macy Gray. We'll always work with good females."

This has been interpreted as slight against Fergie, whose introduction to the group coincided with their huge international success with the album Elephunk and the song Where Is The Love.

Now with Black Eyed Peas' fans com both Fergie and will.i.am denied her removal from the band. Will.i.am tweeted "Lies… Fergie is focusing on Double Dutchess & BEP is doing Masters Of The Sun… That doesn't mean Fergie is out of the group #BEP4ever."

Fergie's spokesperson told Billboard, "Fergie is still in the Black Eyed Peas and has an enormous amount of love for her brothers." Fergie also tweeted in support: "Everyone knows I will always love and support my BEP brothers."

Fergie hasn't performed with the group since their Coachella show in 2015, so now it looks like they might have to wait some more to see them all together again.
