A man has been jailed for 12 years for a horrifying hour-long rape and assault of a schoolgirl within 100 metres of the 13-year-old's home.
Joshua John James Quell, 29, was sentenced in the Beenleigh District Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to the attack on the girl unknown to him.
The court heard Quell grabbed his victim as she made her way home from school at a Loganlea park, on the afternoon of March 18, 2016.
Within seconds Quell had dragged the girl into nearby bushes where he ripped off her school uniform and began raping her.
Quell viciously attacked the girl, the court heard, within metres of passers-by in the park who could neither see nor hear the attack.
Crown prosecutor David Nardone told the court Quell was not only under a suspended sentence for assault at the time of the offence but had been imprisoned for a 2007 attempted rape when he was 18.
"Quite simply he's a danger to society," Mr Nardone said.
"He preys on the vulnerable."
The court heard Quell, who knew he had hepatitis C at the time of the attack, had threatened to slit the girl's throat before fleeing.
She ran home and told her mother of the attack with her description of Quell leading police to arrest him soon afterwards.
Testing cleared the girl of any disease but Judge Richard Jones said the attack was nearly incomprehensible.
"I can't think of much more degrading activity, to be honest," he said.
"The magnitude of offending almost defies description ... the offence was brazen in the extreme."
Judge Jones said a victim impact statement from the girl's mother revealed the family had moved away from the area and the girl was at times "sad, upset and subject to anxiety attacks".
