THE HONDELLS – 4CD Collection !!!

“The Hondells were a west coast surf/hot rod band in the early 60’s that had songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared in several movies like “Beach Blanket Bingo” and “Beach Party”.
The band toured throughout the United States with the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars and played with a USO tour in Vietnam. They released several albums and singles on the Mercury label under the name of The Hondells. The main members of the band also played on and released songs as “The Weird-Oh’s” and “The Super Stocks”.
The band members were Richard “Ritchie” Burns, Wayne Edwards, Randy Thomas, Dennis McCarthy, Al Ferguson, Les Weiser and “King of The Fuzz” Davie Allan. Most of their material was produced by Gary Usher.”

LOS JAGUARS – De Fiesta Con… + Singles [Peruvian 60’s Surf Instros]

Los Jaguars

Hola muchachos! Are you for some South American surfin’ sounds? This here is one of the best Peruvian 60’s groups you could hear on Back To Peru or  The International Vicious Society compilations. They started somewhere in ’65/’66 with single ”Melodia Apache” on Sono Radio label where they recorded a bunch of real cool 45’s and an Lp ”De Fieste Con Los Jaguars” [On Holiday with The Jaguars]. They played some kind of psychedelic surf instros sometimes using a fuzz [Tormenta En El Mar, ‘Leyenda India], wah wah pedal [Selena] and cool organ sounds, somehow reminds me on Davie Allan & The Arrows on few trax. Here are two different vinyl rips of their rare slab plus 20 single trax for your surfin’ pleasure. Let’s go on holiday with Los Jaguars. Dig !!!

BOB VAUGHT & THE RENEGAIDS – Surf Crazy [1963] Vinyl Rip!!!

Bob Vaught & The Renegaids

A West coast surf band also known as The Renegades or Los Renegados, recorded their sole lp for Crescendo records. One of those groups you only knew from various surf comps as Sleazy Surf, Strummin’ Mental, Surf Guitars Rumble, ‎The Surf Creature, Surfs Up! At Banzai-Pipeline… so you should hear their tunes Exotic, Revellion, San Onofre, Surfin’ Tragedy, Church Key Twist, Bo’ Gator… They have a raw, R&B influenced surfin’ sound in style between The Sentinals [covers of Latinia, Revellion, Tor-Chula], Centurians and The Revels. This here is a vinyl rip of lp + 7″ = complete stuff. Well, you got the picture, now… Dig !!!

THE ELIMINATORS – Liverpool, Dragsters, Cycles & Surfing [’64] / Guitars And Percussion [’66]

The Eliminators Liverpool, Dragsters, Cycles & Surfing aThe Eliminators Liverpool

Again two different ’60s groups with the same name. The Eliminators of “Liverpool, Dragsters, Cycles & Surfing” was a US band, probably a Liberty records studio project with leon russell as arranger. They tried to cash in on popular trands as beat music, hot rod and surf. The lp opens with The Beatles covers, then slips into some Beach Boys/Jan & Dean style hot rod songs and some solid instrumentals.

On the other side are the UK Eliminators with their ’66 all-instro lp. This pretty interesting, mostly-covers, lounge slab starts out with cool fuzzed-out version of surf classic Wipe Out [there’s also a fine psychedelicized take on Pipeline], then there’s fine covers of Satisfaction, Land Of A Thousand Dances and some TV themes. All in all, I would give my vote to The Eliminators 🙂  Dig !!!

THE ASTRONAUTS – Surfadelic Collection !!! [’60s Surf Instros]

The Astronauts - Surfadelic Collection (1)

“The Astronauts [from Boulder, Colorado] were an American rock and roll band, who had a minor hit in 1963 with “Baja” and remained successful for several years, especially in Japan. They have been described as being, “along with the Trashmen, the premier landlocked Midwestern surf group of the ’60s.” [wiki]

Damn! Another surfadelic comp… Well, I know you know but then again The Astronauts are one of the 60’s superfine surfin’ groups [my favs!], so they deserved supercool surfadelic treatement. This here is a collection of their classic 60’s instrumentals + some rare stuff, all in all 24 trax of a drippin’ reverberaton sounds. Hot-Doggin’, Movin’, Firewater, Surf Party, The Hearse… Wow! Just ask Boss Martians, The Untamed Youth, The Fathoms and bunch of other surf revival gangs where they get inspiration from. Hot-Doggin’ Dig!!!

THE KEYMEN vs THE KEYMEN [’60s Garage/Surf vs ’50s R&B/Lounge]

The Keymen

Actually not [likely] the same band but there’s always a bit of mistery. The Keymen [Originally known as The Fabulous Keymen] were 60’s garage/surf combo from Las Cruces, New Mexico and here they are featured with solid unreleased ’65 set of surf instros, cool ’67 garage single ”What Am I To Do” and some so so/lame frat rock, blue-eyed soul covers.

The ‘other’ Keymen were ’50s rock instrumental group who had one small hit with “Gazackstahagen” in 1958. suported by Dick Clark. Their album is fun all-instro sax driven R&B/Lounge slab with covers of hit tunes in seductive Las Vegas Grind style. Go Keymen Go !!!

THE SURF TRIO – Almost Summer (1986) New Vinyl Rip!!!

Surf Trio Almost Summer

Almost perfect ’86 debut slab [on Voxx records] for these Portland, Oregon surf punkers. You should have know them from various garage/surf revival comps as Locked in to Surf, Takin’ Out the Trash, Mondo Drive-In, Hot Rods To Hell… I personally heard ’em first on a real cool Bomp rec. collection From L.A. With Love [posted on my old blog] with their Ramonesoid hit single Fun In The Summertime.

Their dynamic mix of 60’s inspired garage/surf revival instros & vocals and 70’s punk, influenced by such acts as Link Wray, The Ventures, Beach Boys & Ramones, will appeal to fans of The Barracudas, The Untamed Youth or early Boss Martians. Fav trax: She’s Too Good, Pete’s Mood [great instro], Monster Beach, Can’t Stand This Love, Goodbye [cool 60’s cover], Fun In The Summertime and Yeah! Almost Summer.

Sound fixing & cleaning executed by mighty Mr.Eliminator himself in … visual sound Stereo. Dig !!!

BERT WEEDON [50’s & 60’s Instrumentals]

bert weedon the very best of [front] small

“Herbert Maurice William ‘Bert’ Weedon was an English guitarist whose style of playing was popular and influential during the 1950s and 1960s. He was the first British guitarist to have a hit record in the UK Singles Chart, in 1959, and his best-selling tutorial guides, Play in a Day, were a major influence on many leading British musicians, such as Eric Clapton, Brian May, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, Dave Davies, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi and Jimmy Page.

He joined the BBC Show Band directed by Cyril Stapleton in the 1950s, when he began to be featured as a soloist. He also worked as a session musician on many early British rock and roll and other records for artists such as Adam Faith, Billy Fury and Tommy Steele and worked as an accompanist to visiting American singers such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Nat King Cole. It is estimated that he performed on over 5,000 BBC radio broadcasts. He was also seen regularly on British television in the 1950s, including some of the most popular children’s television programmes. In 1959 he was asked by Top Rank Records to make a record as a solo guitarist. He became the first British guitarist in the UK Singles Chart, with “Guitar Boogie Shuffle” in 1959.

His playing style focused on both rhythm and melody, and was itself influenced by the jazz guitarists of the 1950s, notably Les Paul. Weedon placed a lot of emphasis on control of tone, and wanted to make the guitar the star of his music. The style became best known through the music of the Shadows, especially Hank Marvin” [wiki]

All instro best of collection of this guitar “Big head”. Some real cool rockin’ stuff mixed with some out-dated dud and so so tunes, so the choice is yours. My favs: BIG BEAT BOOGIE, SORRY ROBBIE, GINCHY, RED GUITAR, TWELVE STRING SHUFFLE, GIN MILL GUITAR,  KICK OFF, TOKYO MELODY, SOUTH OF THE BORDER, CHARLIE BOY, STRANGER THAN FICTION,  BLACK JACKETS… Dig!
