- 11 a.m. At the Willapa Bay Interpretive Center, a replica of an oyster station house in Nahcotta, you’ll learn how oysters are grown and harvested.
- 2 p.m. It’s a three-hour drive to Lilliwaup, where you’ll find the Hama Hama Company farm store and oyster saloon. Located on the Hood Canal, this fifth generation family-owned farm is a gorgeous spot to enjoy ultra-fresh oysters (on the half-shell or grilled) and a cold beer from a perch overlooking the water before taking a self-guided tour of the farm.
- 7:30 p.m. Spend the night in Seattle at the Hotel Ballard (from $150). In addition to offering luxurious rooms, the hotel’s a five-minute walk from chef Renee Erickson’s The Walrus and the Carpenter. Expect a wait for a seat with a clear view of the shucking action.

- 3:00 p.m. There’s one more stop worthy of your pilgrimage: Drayton Harbor Oyster Co. in Blaine, just below the Canadian border. Oyster beds run nearly a mile from the brick building, where you can slurp them raw or barbecued. The record for fastest time from harvest to half-shell: 17 minutes.

Even if you aren't the type that lives to post your latest food porn on Instagram, these dining destinations are a good excuse to hit the road – and perhaps the air – for good times and good eats. Sunset Magazine compiled this list of awesome edible excursions that could sate a hardcore foodie, but wouldn't be too much to chew on for the casual but adventurous diner.
