Parents charged with murder

The parents of toddler Maddilyn-Rose Stokes are charged with her torture and murder at Northgate and remanded in custody. Nine News

Her parents had described the girl's death to police as "a terrible accident" caused by "a moment's inattention" after the toddler was found not breathing by paramedics at her family's Northgate townhouse about 3.30pm on May 25.

It is understood the parents had called for an ambulance, with paramedics performing resuscitation on the toddler for about half an hour before taking her to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, but Maddilyn-Rose died that night.

Detective Inspector Tim Trezise said her parents did not seek help for several days and at the time they blamed her injuries on hot bath water.

The charges come after Operation Papa Belveder was launched to investigate the toddler's death, which involved the Boondall Child Protection and Investigation Unit, Homicide Investigation Unit and Child Trauma Taskforce.

Maddilyn-Rose's father, 30, and mother, 23, will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
