The four cardinal directions or cardinal points are the directions of north, east, south, and west, commonly denoted by their initials: N, E, S, W. East and west are at right angles to north and south, with east being in the clockwise direction of rotation from north and west being directly opposite east. Intermediate points between the four cardinal directions form the points of the compass. The intermediate (intercardinal, or ordinal) directions are northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). Further, the intermediate direction of every set of intercardinal and cardinal direction is called a secondary-intercardinal direction, the eight shortest points in the compass rose to the right, i.e. NNE, ENE, ESE, and so on.
To keep to a bearing is not, in general, the same as going in a straight direction along a great circle. Conversely, one can keep to a great circle and the bearing may change. Thus the bearing of a straight path crossing the North Pole changes abruptly at the Pole from North to South. When travelling East or West, it is only on the Equator that one can keep East or West and be going straight (without need to steer). Anywhere else, maintaining latitude requires a change in direction, requires steering. However, this change in direction becomes increasingly negligible as one moves to lower latitudes.
The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
East India is a region of India consisting of the Indian states of West Bengal,Bihar,Jharkhand, Odisha and also the union territory Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal's capital Kolkata is the largest city of this region. The Kolkata Metropolitan Area is the country's third largest. The states of Odisha and West Bengal share some cultural and linguistic characteristics with Bangladesh and with the state of Assam.. Bengali is the most spoken language of this region and it is also the second most spoken language in India after Hindi. Odia is the only language in east India accorded the status of a Classical Language of India. Together with Bangladesh, West Bengal formed the ethno-linguistic region of Bengal before partition in 1947. The historic region of Bengal which was ruled by Nawabs of Bengal comprises the present, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Bangladesh from where the British started their conquest of India. Modern days Odisha in ancient time know as Kalinga, Utkala and ruled by indigenous mighty rulers of Mahameghavahana dynasty, Eastern Ganga dynasty and Gajapati Dynasty.
Northeast India is the eastern-most region of India. It is connected to East India via a narrow corridor squeezed between independent nations of Bhutan and Bangladesh. It comprises the contiguous Seven Sister States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura), and the Himalayan state of Sikkim, and Jalpaiguri Division. Except for the Goalpara region of Assam, the rest did not become part of political India until the 19th century and later. The Brahmaputra valley area of Assam became a part of British India in 1824, with the hill regions annexed later. Sikkim was annexed to the Indian union through a referendum in 1975; it was recognized as part of Northeast India in the 1990s.
Northeast India is generally considered one of the most challenging regions of the country to govern. It has been the site of separatist movements among the tribal peoples, who speak languages related to Tibeto-Burman.
Northeast India constitutes about 8% of India's size; roughly 3/4th the size of the state of Maharashtra. Its population is approximately 40 million (2011 census), 3.1% of the total Indian population; roughly equal to that of Odisha.

How many in this Country India really believe that The North-east are also Indians? was the question of this Ad. of KBC 2014 Kaun Banega Crorepati, an iconic adaptation of Who Wants to be a Millionaire is another such. The show, already in its eighth season with Amitabh Bachchan, who has been in the host seat for all seasons except the third, over the last few seasons has sharpened its pitch and evolved. The first promos for the forthcoming season were particularly interesting for the fact that like earlier years, they brought into focus a pertinent subject that has been swept under the carpet for the longest while— inclusion of North East into the mainstream Indian narrative. Big B asks the contestant as to which country Kohima is a part of. She opts for the audience poll and when the ho...

The area of India beyond the Siliguri junction squeezing through Nepal and Bangladesh is a relatively unexplored area as far as tourism, especially the "7 sister" states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. This region is wildly diverse, and aptly earns it's name of being "paradise unexplored." This documentary features 9 states of India, where we explore the places, eat the food, and meet the people. 40 LifeHacks that Save Over $2000 a Month ($4.99): http://thetickettotravel.com/product/40-lifehacks-that-save-over-2000-dollars-per-month-ebook/ Become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/thetickettotravel Make a Donation: http://thetickettotravel.com/support Shop on Amazon through us (Bookmark it!): http://amzn.to/2buk3SZ Check out our Website...

Each year I film fly fishing the inshore waters of the northeastern U.S. and produce a "movie" of the results. This is the full and final version of the Surf & Inshore Fly Fishing project covering the full year 2012. As mentioned in the teaser, a season spent chasing these fish is only a series of events with no plot or story, but when you put these seasons together, year after year, the story becomes more clear; it's the story of your life, and how you've decided to live it. A special thanks to those who were supportive throughout the year, particularly: MdeB, CRL & GGL Greg Snow - Snowfly Charter Ryan Sansoucy - Hush Fly Fishing RISE Fly Fishing CO. Once a year, analog synth enthusiasts gather to socialize and play rare and unusual musical instruments. I captured the May 2009 gathering with a Canon 5DmkII and a 50mm f/1.4 lens. I simply sat the Camera on a tripod, frame the shot as I would a photo, focused and captured. The music was produced using a Euro-format analog modular, controlled by Volta. Aside from the drums (MOTU BPM), everything was analog.
Most of this footage was filmed in the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont during September. Filmed on a Canon T3i.
A short film about a long, northbound road trip for surf. http://www.chrishannant.com
Ive been wanting to go north for a while and am thankful to Michael, who live in São Paulo as well, for planning this trip. I met up with him in Praia da Pipa and went northward hitting Natal, Fortaleza and Jericoacoara. We spent most of our time in Pipa and Jeri learning how to surf (im hooked), buggy riding, horse riding or just hanging out with great new friends. There is nothing better than exploring beautiful landscapes while meeting awesome people. nothing better I want to emphasize that this was a piece on my travel and the people I met. This is not intended to entirely represent the locations themselves...just my trip, what I did and what I saw! Thanks! the northeast, well it's all i really know,
with dust and bricks and some cars
in the snow.
it's like new york in the late summertime.
can breathe again, even through this lovely grime.
as i said, the skyline's brighter tonight,
but this time i turned on five more lights.
it's like new york in the late summertime.
can breath again, and your bones, they feel alive.
