Nicaragua (i/ˌnɪkəˈrɑːɡwəˌ -ˈræ-ˌ -ɡjuə/; Spanish: [nikaˈɾaɣwa]), officially the Republic of Nicaragua (Spanish:
República de Nicaragua ), is the largest country in the Central American isthmus. The population of Nicaragua is slightly over 6 million. Nicaragua's capital, Managua, is the third-largest city in Central America. The multi-ethnic population includes indigenous peoples, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and people of Middle Eastern origin. The main language is Spanish. Native tribes on the eastern coast speak their own languages.
The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century. Nicaragua gained independence from Spain in 1821. Since its independence, Nicaragua has undergone periods of political unrest, dictatorship, and fiscal crisis—the most notable causes that led to the Nicaraguan Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s. Nicaragua is a representative democratic republic.
The mixture of cultural traditions has generated substantial diversity in art and literature, particularly the latter given the literary contributions of Nicaraguan poets and writers, including Rubén Darío, Pablo Antonio Cuadra and Ernesto Cardenal. The biological diversity, warm tropical climate and active volcanoes make Nicaragua an increasingly popular tourist destination.

The $40 billion Nicaraguan canal project is expected to begin construction by the end of 2014 and could be completed by 2020. Beginning at the Pacific coast port of Brito, ships will cross Lake Nicaragua, before snaking through the jungle towards the country's Caribbean lowlands and the town of Bluefields on the eastern Coast. The 286-kilometer-long canal will be more than three times the length of the Panama Canal. It needs to earn $1 billion annually to turn a profit, meaning i...

January 1998 An excellent report that addresses the uncertain future for indigenous Nicaraguans as they fight against their own government and people. An 80% unemployment rate and commercialisation of the Mosquito coast has encouraged a growing trade in Crack cocaine. On a tour of the Ghettos of 'Little Miami', multitudes of brothels, crack dens and bars line the streets. The Nicaraguan government is unsympathetic to the natives pleas for land titles and autonomy of the Atlantic coast. In a desperate attempt to hold on to what is, traditionally, their land; a group of natives, the Miskit Indians, has taken up arms against the government. The authorities respond aggressively with the planting of land mines, a step contrary to an international convention, of which Nicaragua is a signator...
Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Nicaragua is set to announce that it has removed all known remaining landmines left behind from its civil war in the 1980s between the Sandinistas and the US-backed Contras. More than 180,000 mines from more than 1,000 minefields are believed to have been cleared -- a success applauded by the international community. But it has been a long and slow journey, with mines killing and maiming thousands of people in the country's central and northern highlands over the years. And unregistered minefields and movements due to flooding and mudslides caused by Hurricane Mitch in 1998 mean that some mines may remain. Ricardo Castillo reports from Managua. Polls indicate that the current 70 year-old President Daniel Ortega from the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) party, will be re-elected out of the six candidates, giving him a third term in power. Like many of you when we woke up that morning to hear the news that Julian Assange had sought asylum in the Ecuador Embassy, we as a Latin America social forum, a coalition of Latin American Community Groups and solidarity activists from countries such as Chilli, Uraguay, Venezuela, El Salvador, Nicaragua, we knew we had to respond immediately and there were two reasons for that. The first was that we have no doubt that Julian Assange’s life is in danger. We know that we can expect nothing of this current Australian Government to defend his rights. They were rushing over themselves to accuse him of being guilty. They didn’t know what he was guilty of, they just knew that he was already guilty. The Federal Police had to then tell them that he had actually committed no crime and yet the p...

Called by the Venezuela Network Ireland In 1985 President Ronald Reagan declared Nicaragua to be “a threat to the United States”, and proceeded to finance and arm the “contras” in order to overthrow the democratically elected Sandinista government. When, thirty years later the current president of the U.S. Barack Obama declares Venezuela to be “a threat to the United States”, it can only mean one thing – the U.S. is seeking to overthrow the government of Venezuela. Since the election of Hugo Chávez in 1998 transformed the political situation in Venezuela and Latin America, the U.S. has striven to restore its dominion over the continent. It has supported and encouraged the Venezuelan ultra-right, during the coup d'état in 2002 and since, in all its efforts to destabilise and undermine th...

Spanish/Nat A lucrative deal struck between Nicaragua and Taiwan is forging an alliance in the face of fierce Chinese opposition. Nicaragua is fighting Taiwan's corner as the tiger economy seeks its own representation in the United Nations despite threats from mainland China. At the same time, Taiwan continues to plough investments worth hundreds of millions of U-S dollars into Nicaragua's struggling economy. Taiwan-run factories such as these provide succour to an ailing economy. Nicaragua, still recovering from the ravages of civil war, needs foreign investment and job creation. Unfortunately, the conditions for workers employed in such places have raised international concern. But any factory job is highly prized in a country with more than 50 per cent unemployment ...

November 9, 2012 www.LifeofBrennan.com There are moments in life when you just need to be bold and follow your heart. For me it came just before the end of my sophomore year of college. I realized I was on a path where I’d most likely graduate, get a job, start a family, and work until retirement, and where many people may aspire to have all this, I knew I needed something different. With the help of a cousin I was able to get connected with an orphanage in Guatemala where I could volunteer. So I took a semester off and flew to Central America to begin what would be a life changing experience. I once heard that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it, and by being immersed in that culture and living with those children I learned this lesson first...
P.I.E.C.E.S is a student-driven social initiative focusing on children’s education in developing countries, with the goal of creating significant opportunities for their future. www.thepieces.org ___________________________________________________________________________ P.I.E.C.E.S was founded in 2009 by students of the University of St. Gallen within the SIM Master’s program. The SIM (Strategy and International Management) has as part of its curriculum the requirement that its students get involved in a social project. This is how a first group of three students went to Isla Ometepe in Nicaragua to teach as volunteers for the very first time. It was a successful experience and the team decided to keep it going and turn this one time project into an organisation, P.I.E.C.E.S, that wo...
The Crow family helps us out by delivering our announcements this week! This summer, our high school students had the awesome opportunity to travel to Nicaragua, Ecuador and Minnesota on missions trips as they served and shared the gospel. Join the missions teams next Sunday, August 9, to hear about everything God did during their travels. The update will be in Fellowship Hall following the 11 a.m. service next week, and includes lunch when you RSVP. We can’t believe it’s already that time, but summer is winding down and we’re gearing up for our fall kick off on Sunday, August 16. All our classes for kids, students and adults will return that week, including the Gospel Project for elementary kids, groups for middle and high school students, and a great line up of classes for adults. Adu...
A Solo-Traveler's Guide To: Central America is the 2nd episode to my travel series. With a clearer vision, this video is a little more polished than the first one but still has the wondrous feel of the first one. This episode guides you through five intense weeks in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. While this episode does not cover the whole of Central America it covers a good amount for a 5 week journey using planes, buses, ferries, pickups, trucks and hitchhiking, and even horses. I don't give a fuck about nicaragua
I don't give a shit about the President
I don't care about suburban white kids
Trying to show they've got compassion
Politics are boring
Politics are fucking boring
Philosophizing propoganda spewing
Teenage armchair revolutionaries
What's the problem? What's the matter?
You're sitting there getting fatter
You say that you hate capitalism
And won't you compromise
But when you're out of cigarettes
THE FUNNY THING IS YOUR BUTT'S FULL OF JIZZ
You pompous ass your moral outrage
Gives me a fucking headache
Closed your mind got all the answers
Don't even realize you're an asshole
If you had any brains I guess you'd see
You're a narrow minded judgemental left wing nazi
