How did Kazakhs live and fight with Dzungars?
Time Puzzle #4
Over the centuries, the Dzungarian Khanate terrified a large part of the Eurasian continent. A powerful army, ambitious plans for conquest and a bloodthirsty temper painted the image of a powerful and merciless enemy. A cruel hammer of the Dzungarian military campaign passed through the Kazakh lands.
In the epic, it remained as "Years of the Great Disaster". A real cry of the wounded Kazakh people, who survived the fiercest battles with the Dzungars in the period from 1723 to 1727.
But the history of the relations between the Kazakhs and the Dzungars has a much longer term and is written not only in blood.
How Jungars threatened the Eurasian continent? What happened on the expanses of the Kazakh steppes in the 17-18 centuries? How did the Kazakhs live and fight with th...

Pristine Nature of Dzungaria
Outdoor Kazakhstan #12
Previously, they called the Zhetysu or Semirechye Alatau the Dzhungarian Alatau. This title originated in the Chinese geography as in the southeast the ridge connects with the Dzhungarian Plain. In Kazakhstan, they call it Zhetysu because its northern slopes and south-western spurs descend to the Region of Zhetysu.

Dzungaria
Dzungaria is a geographical region in northwest China corresponding to the northern half of Xinjiang, also known as Beijiang (Chinese: 北疆; pinyin: Běijiāng; literally: "Northern Xinjiang"). Bounded by the Tian Shan mountain range to the south and the Altai Mountains to the north, it covers approximately 777,000 km2 (300,000 sq mi), extending into western Mongolia and eastern Kazakhstan. Formerly the term could cover a wider area, conterminous with the Dzungar Khanate, a separatist state led by the native Oirats in the 18th century which was based in the area.
Although geographically, historically, and ethnically distinct from the Turkic-speaking Tarim Basin area, the Qing dynasty and subsequent Chinese governments integrated both areas into one province, Xinjiang. As the center of Xinjiang...

As the center of Xinjiang's heavy industry, generator of most of Xinjiang's GDP, as well as containing its political capital Ürümqi ("beautiful pasture" in Mongolian), northern Xinjiang continues to attract intraprovincial and interprovincial migration to its cities. In comparison to southern Xinjiang (Nanjiang, or the Tarim Basin), Zungharia is relatively well-integrated with the rest of China by rail and trade links.

The Battle of Ańyraqaı played an important role in the victorious 200-year war conclusion of the Kazakh people where the Dzungar army was successfully defeated.
After the battle, the relationship between the Kazakh sultans was divided where Sultan Abulmambet migrated to the residence of Kazakh khans which was in Turkestan while Abilqaiyr hastily retreated to the territory of the Younger Juz. The sources do not mention the reasons for an inconsistent behavior by the Sultans despite them all fighting on the same side in the Ańyraqaı battle. It is believed that the main reason for the split between Kazakh khans was due to a struggle for complete power. After the death of Tauke Khan's son, Bolat, who was the khan of all three Juzes; Semek from the Younger Juz, and Abilqaiyr from the Middle Juz, both claimed the throne. The majority choice fell to Sultan Abulmbambet, the son of Bolat Khan. Semek and Abilqaiyr considered themselves neglected and because of it, they abandoned the battlefield, which was a morale blow to the campaign of liberating Kazakh lands from the Dzungarian invaders.
