The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is the agency of the United States Federal Government responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1958 with a distinctly civilian (rather than military) orientation encouraging peaceful applications in space science. The National Aeronautics and Space Act was passed on July 29, 1958, disestablishing NASA's predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The new agency became operational on October 1, 1958.
Since that time, most US space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo moon-landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the Space Shuttle. Currently, NASA is supporting the International Space Station and is overseeing the development of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the Space Launch System and Commercial Crew vehicles. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program (LSP) which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for unmanned NASA launches.
A space station, also known as an orbital station or an orbital space station, is a spacecraft capable of supporting a crew, which is designed to remain in space (most commonly as an artificial satellite in low Earth orbit) for an extended period of time and for other spacecraft to dock. A space station is distinguished from other spacecraft used for human spaceflight by lack of major propulsion or landing systems. Instead, other vehicles transport people and cargo to and from the station. As of September 2014 two space stations are in orbit: the International Space Station, which is permanently manned, and China's Tiangong-1 (which successfully launched on September 29, 2011), which is unmanned most of the time. Previous stations include the Almaz and Salyut series, Skylab and most recently Mir.
Today's space stations are research platforms, used to study the effects of long-term space flight on the human body as well as to provide platforms for greater number and length of scientific studies than available on other space vehicles. Each crew member staying aboard the station for weeks or months, but rarely more than a year. Most of the time crew remain at station but its not necessary that crew should have to be stay at station. Since the ill-fated flight of Soyuz 11 to Salyut 1, all manned spaceflight duration records have been set aboard space stations. The duration record for a single spaceflight is 437.7 days, set by Valeriy Polyakov aboard Mir from 1994 to 1995. As of 2013, three astronauts have completed single missions of over a year, all aboard Mir.
The International Space Station (ISS) is a space station, or a habitable artificial satellite, in low Earth orbit. Its first component launched into orbit in 1998, and the ISS is now the largest artificial body in orbit and can often be seen with the naked eye from Earth. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays, and other components. ISS components have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets as well as American Space Shuttles.
The ISS serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology, and other fields. The station is suited for the testing of spacecraft systems and equipment required for missions to the Moon and Mars. The ISS maintains an orbit with an altitude of between 330 and 435 km (205 and 270 mi) by means of reboost manoeuvres using the engines of the Zvezda module or visiting spacecraft. It completes 15.54 orbits per day.
Earth /ˈɜːrθ/ (also the world, in Greek: Γαῖα Gaia, or in Latin: Terra) is the third planet from the Sun, the densest planet in the Solar System, the largest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets, and the only astronomical object known to harbor life.
According to evidence from radiometric dating and other sources, Earth was formed about 4.54 billion years ago. Earth gravitationally interacts with other objects in space, especially the Sun and the Moon. During one orbit around the Sun, Earth rotates about its own axis 366.26 times, creating 365.26 solar days or one sidereal year. Earth's axis of rotation is tilted 23.4° away from the perpendicular of its orbital plane, producing seasonal variations on the planet's surface with a period of one tropical year (365.24 solar days). The Moon is Earth's only permanent natural satellite. Its gravitational interaction with Earth causes ocean tides, stabilizes the orientation of Earth's rotational axis, and gradually slows Earth's rotational rate.
This is a vinyl rip from the 12" single of Nasa's song Point Of View from 1985. This version of the song is called "Point Of View (Search Mix)". Point Of View was the third single released from the Swedish synthpop band from Stockholm, and the first to be released in 12" format. It also contained a remix of their first single, "Paula", called "Paula (I will always remix you)" and an English version of their second single "Stockholmsommar", called "City Girl (Main street version)".

New video recorded during NASA’s Orion return through Earth’s atmosphere provides viewers a taste of what the vehicle endured as it returned through Earth’s atmosphere during its Dec. 5 flight test. The video begins 10 minutes before Orion's 11:29 a.m. EST splashdown in the Pacific Ocean, just as the spacecraft was beginning to experience Earth's atmosphere. Peak heating from the friction caused by the atmosphere rubbing against Orion's heat shield comes less than two minutes later, and the footage shows the plasma created by the interaction change from white to yellow to lavender to magenta as the temperature increases. The video goes on to show the deployment of Orion’s parachutes and the final splash as it touches down.
A number of people who've seen NASA's annual lunar phase and libration videos have asked what the other side of the Moon looks like, the side that can't be seen from the Earth. This video answers that question. The imagery was created using Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data. On July 20, 2015, NASA released to the world the first image of the sunlit side of Earth captured by the space agency's EPIC camera on NOAA's DSCOVR satellite. The camera has now recorded a full year of life on Earth from its orbit at Lagrange point 1, approximately 1 million miles from Earth, where it is balanced between the gravity of our home planet and the sun. EPIC takes a new picture every two hours, revealing how the planet would look to human eyes, capturing the ever-changing motion of clouds and weather systems and the fixed features of Earth such as deserts, forests and the distinct blues of different seas. EPIC will allow scientists to monitor ozone and aerosol levels in Earth’s atmosphere, cloud height, vegetation properties and the ultraviolet reflectivity of Earth. The pr...

During a June 21 media briefing from the Newseum in Washington, representatives from NASA, other federal agencies, and science organizations provided important information about safely viewing the total solar eclipse that will cross the U.S. on August 21. Over the course of 100 minutes, 14 states across the United States will experience more than two minutes of darkness in the middle of the day. Additionally, a partial eclipse will be viewable across all of North America. The eclipse will provide a unique opportunity to study the sun, Earth, moon and their interaction because of the eclipse’s long path over land coast to coast. Scientists will be able to take ground-based and airborne observations over a period of an hour and a half to complement the wealth of data and images provided by...
NASA marked the 2017 International Asteroid Day with a live program featuring the agency's Planetary Defense Coordination Office and other projects working to find and study near-Earth objects (NEOs). Learn how NASA-funded researchers find, track and characterize NEOs -- asteroids and comets that come within the vicinity of Earth's orbit and could pose an impact hazard to Earth -- and how NASA is working to get our nation prepared to respond to a potential impact threat. The shows includes guests from NASA and NASA-funded planetary defense coordination programs across the country, including the agency's Headquarters in Washington and Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

NASA held a news conference Feb. 22 at the agency’s headquarters to discuss the finding by the Spitzer Space Telescope of seven Earth-sized planets around a tiny, nearby, ultra-cool dwarf star. Three of these planets are in the habitable zone, the region around the star in which liquid water is most likely to thrive on a rocky planet. This is the first time so many planets have been found in a single star's habitable zone, and the first time so many Earth-sized planets have been found around the same star. The finding of this planetary system, called TRAPPIST-1, is the best target yet for studying the atmospheres of potentially habitable, Earth-sized worlds

“Space Down to Earth” is a circa 1970 NASA education film that explores how science impacts not only the exploration of space but also life on Earth. The color film begins with “sounds” from space — signals from satellites orbiting Earth — each of which have their own signature, or tone. Such application satellites serve many different functions, we are told, including weather, communications, and Earth resources. Beginning at mark 01:45, the narrator explains how satellites such as Nimbus and TIROS track weather conditions around the globe, including hurricanes, as we see scenes from 1969’s Hurricane Camille — a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane that struck the Gulf Coast of the United States. (TIROS, we’re told at mark 06:00, also carries equipment that can help spot solar flares). Satel...

Hello, This is a compilation of FAR-UV and INFRARED recordings from the spaceshuttle and the ISS. Some of this material is extremely rare and you may not have seen it before. The videos are made available by "secretnasaman" a.k.a. Martyn Stubbs. This is the kind of film material I consider as compelling evidence that earth is visited. You see UFO come and go. NASA zooms in on them, follows them and somehow this already looks like a routine job for the camera operator. NASA knows exactly when and how to aim cameras at certain positions on Earth, as if they are expecting something to happen. On the other hand, so much happens that it is very diffcult to mis something. An entire fleet of UFO is swarming around us. So why don't we see them on NASA TV? That is because NASA no longer transmi...

We're all about fake space, bout fake space. No shuttle! No Hubble! Not subtle. Just another exposing of the worst company ever. The scientific organization that has actually fooled the world into believing in space. If it was 1950, 1960, 1970... I could see that. But it is 2015 and the fact that people still eat this shit up is scary... Equally scary... My wife and I sing... All About Fake Space... we both are sorry. Thanks for your support if you can help us continue to make videos by supporting the channel that'd be super and we sure need help and support :) SITE: http://jeranism.com EMAIL: jeranism@yahoo.com FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/jeranism TUMBLR: http://jeranism.tumblr.com TWITTER: http://twitter.com/jeranism PATREON: http://patreon.com/jeranism Please support me in my ques...
After receiving a record-breaking number of applications to join an exciting future of space exploration, NASA has selected its largest astronaut class since 2000. Rising to the top of more than 18,300 applicants, NASA chose 12 women and men as the agency’s new astronaut candidates. Vice President Mike Pence joined Acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot, Johnson Space Center Director Ellen Ochoa, and Flight Operations Director Brian Kelly to welcome the new astronaut candidates during an event June 7 at the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The astronaut candidates will return to Johnson in August to begin two years of training. Then they could be assigned to any of a variety of missions: performing research on the International Space Station, launching from American soil on sp...

In this episode, I talk with Ex IBM and NASA contractor Kenneth Roberts who worked on the Saturn V, Skylab, Spacelab, the space shuttle and also helped train the crews and astronauts to understand and use the custom made flight and operational computer systems. This was a result of the request to talk to people who worked or still do work in the space/aerospace industry and i would like the thank Tennis Smith for setting up the interview and suggesting it in the first place. If you know someone that worked in the space industry and think they would like to share their stories then contact me on the email link in the about page of this channel. Presented by Paul Shillito Interviewee Kenneth Roberts Suggested by Tennis Smith.
[1st Verse:]
Decisions made blindly.
But I traded it all away.
As these footsteps, they get stronger now.
I turn my back I see you walking away.
Your so far away.
[Pre Chorus:]
The pistol is lying beside you.
But you can't fire back when you've got nothing left.
[Chorus:]
On the inside of my mind.
I know you'll never be satisfied with my point of view.
On your life.
The inside of my mind.
I know you'll never be satisfied with my point of view.
On your life.
[2nd Verse:]
I've taken all that I can take.
But you claim you see the only way.
As these footsteps, they get softer now.
You turn your back you see me walking away.
I'm so far away.
[Bridge:]
You will fucking bleed for me.
You will fucking bleed for me.
Motherfucking bleed for me.
Motherfucking bleed for me.
[Chorus:]
On the inside of my mind.
I know you'll never be satisfied with my point of view.
On your life.
The inside of my mind.
I know you'll never be satisfied with my point of view.
