Slide (footwear)

A slide is a shoe that is backless and open-toed, essentially an open-toed mule. Generally, all slides are not sandals. Thongs and flip flops are normally classified separately. Slides can be high-heeled, flat-heeled or somewhere in between, and may cover nearly the entire foot from ankle to toe, or may have only one or two narrow straps. They usually include a single strap or a sequence of straps across the toes and the lower half of the foot to hold the shoe on the foot. The term is descriptive in that this shoe is easy to 'slide' on and off the foot when the wearer wants to do so.

Jig

The Jig (Irish: port) is a form of lively folk dance in compound meter, as well as the accompanying dance tune. It developed in 16th-century England, and was quickly adopted on the Continent where it eventually became the final movement of the mature Baroque dance suite (the French gigue; Italian and Spanish giga). Today it is most associated with Irish dance music, Scottish country dance and the Métis people in Canada. Jigs were originally in duple compound meter, (e.g., 12
8 time), but have been adapted to a variety of time signatures, by which they are often classified into groups, including light jigs, slip jigs, single jigs, double jigs, and treble jigs.

Origins

The term jig was probably derived from the French giguer, meaning 'to jump' or the Italian giga. It was known as a dance in 16th-century England, often in 12
8 time, and the term was used for a post-play entertainment featuring dance in early modern England, but which 'probably employed a great variety of dances, solo (suitable for jigs), paired, round, country or courtly': in Playford's Dancing Master (1651) 'the dance game in ‘Kemps Jegg’ is a typical scenario from a dramatic jig and it is likely that the combination of dance metre for steps and non-metrical passages for pantomime indicates how a solo or ensemble jig might have been danced by stage players.' Later the dance began to be associated with music particularly in 6
8 time, and with slip jigs 9
8 time.

Jakarta Slide

Jakarta Slide is an open-source content management system from the Jakarta project. It is written in Java and implements the WebDAV protocol. Slide is a set of APIs to implement the WebDAV client. Because of this, Slide can also be seen as a Content Management Framework. The use of WebDAV, which is a superset of HTTP, makes Slide an ideal candidate for web-based content management. Among the applications of Slide are its use as a file server, in intranet applications, and as an excellent repository for XML both as properties and versioned files for persistence of JavaBeans. It also has an extensible storage mechanism that can be used for Integration and adaptation.

The Apache Jakarta PMC has announced the retirement of the Jakarta Slide subproject at 2007-11-03. An alternative implementation that is actively maintained is the WebDAV component of the Apache Jackrabbit project that provides Java-based content repository software.

Global (TV series)

Global, styled also as Global with Matthew Amroliwala (as of 8 September 2014), is a news programme on BBC World News that premiered on 14 January 2013 with the relaunch of the channel from Broadcasting House. The programme was hosted initially by Jon Sopel who joined the channel from the domestic BBC News channel. Sopel regularly presented the programme on location around the world and in this case it is broadcast in part on the BBC News channel. Sopel was promoted to North America Editor in 2014, and was succeeded in September by Matthew Amroliwala.

Global replaced The Hub, which originally was an edition of World News Today and served as a news 'nerve centre' for South Asia and the Middle East, providing both the headlines, and detailed analysis of the global news agenda.

Schedule

Global is aired from 15:00–16:30 GMT (16:00–17:30 BST in summer time), Monday to Friday on BBC World News, usually followed by an edition of World Business Report.

Presenters

When Jon Sopel presented, the title sequence ends by stating 'Global with Jon Sopel'. However, when he does not, as he is often on assignment, the titles only show 'Global', regardless of the replacement presenter. This only happens if he isn't reporting from a location on a topic covered in the show.

Suzhou RunHua Global Center

The Suzhou RunHua Global Center (Chinese: 苏州盛高环球大厦), formerly the SPG Global Towers, are a pair of skyscrapers in Suzhou, China. Groundbreaking on the buildings began in 2007, and they were completed in 2010. Building A is 282 m (925 ft) to the architectural tip with 49 floors, and is used mostly for office space, while tower B is 240 m (790 ft) to the architectural tip with 54 floors, and is residential.

The towers bear a striking resemblance to the One Liberty Place skyscraper complex in Philadelphia, United States.

DUB (magazine)

DUB, founded in January 2000, is a North American magazine covering urban custom car culture and also features celebrities and their vehicles.

The magazine also launched the DUB Magazine Custom Auto Show & Concert, a nationwide car show and concert tour that spans 16 United States cities. DUB now has many licensed goods that include Jada Toys' DUB City die-cast and radio controlled vehicles, DUB Edition car accessories, and Rockstar Games' Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition video game.

The term "DUB" is street slang for custom wheels 20" or larger in diameter and was popularized through hip hop music.

DUB was founded by Myles Kovacs, Haythem Haddad, and Herman Flores, who continue to head the company located in Industry, California.
