Two international choreographers for an intensive workshop in Brooklyn, NY .
Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich from Spain , have been artistic partner from many years.
Iratxe has worked with choreographers such as Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Jacopo Godani, Johan Inger, Medhi Walerski, Crystal Pite, Ohad Naharin, Wayne McGregor, Alexander Ekman, to name a few.
The metamorphosis method was initiated by Iratxe Ansa. Her vocational dance training and professional career has shaped her method and teaching philosophy. Having worked and learned from master teachers and choreographers in the dance world, she brought together through this method, excellence and fresh insight to shape a new generation of performing dancers.
In the last few years, Iratxe and Igor have been travelling internationally, working with both students and professional dancers workshopping their ideas, translating their movement language and passing it onto dancers of all artistic and creative backgrounds. Their method focuses deeply on the importance of process, working to pull individuals out of their comfort zone and reach their absolute maximum physical, emotional and artistic potential.

Dancer Soad Ibrahim led the Italian dance and body movement workshop. It resulted in three video performances (check them out here) and greatly contributed to intercultural exchanges and increased self-awareness in its seventeen participants, both Italian and with a migrant background. As one of the interviewees put it: "I noted how there were differences amongst participants in this workshop...But they were not real differences. We were all like a big family in this workshop!”.

Workshop
Beginning with the Industrial Revolution era, a workshop may be a room or building which provides both the area and tools (or machinery) that may be required for the manufacture or repair of manufactured goods. Workshops were the only places of production until the advent of industrialization and the development of larger factories. In the 20th and 21st century, many Western homes contain a workshop in the garage, basement, or an external shed. Home workshops typically contain a workbench, hand tools, power tools and other hardware.
Backshop
In some repair industries, such as locomotives and aircraft, the repair operations have specialized workshops called backshops. Most repairs are carried out in small workshops, except where an industrial service is needed.

Open society
The open society is a concept originally suggested in 1932 by the French philosopher Henri Bergson, and developed during the Second World War by Austrian-born British philosopher Karl Popper.
Popper saw the open society as standing on a historical continuum reaching from the organic, tribal, or closed society, through the open society marked by a critical attitude to tradition, up to the abstract or depersonalised society lacking all face-to-face transactions.
In open societies, the government is expected to be responsive and tolerant, and political mechanisms are said to be transparent and flexible. Advocates claim that it is opposed to authoritarianism.
History
Popper saw the classical Greeks as initiating the long slow transition from tribalism towards the open society, and as facing for the first time the strain imposed by the less personal group relations entailed thereby.
Whereas tribalistic and collectivist societies do not distinguish between natural laws and social customs, so that individuals are unlikely to challenge traditions they believe to have a sacred or magical basis, the beginnings of an open society are marked by a distinction between natural and man-made law, and an increase in personal responsibility and accountability for moral choices (not incompatible with religious belief).

As one of the interviewees put it: "I noted how there were differences amongst participants in this workshop...But they were not real differences. We were all like a big family in this workshop!”.

I have learned more, and grown more artistically, since I not only took up painting frequently and daily, but also began painting in series. Sometimes after finishing one painting my mind just couldn’t come up with what to paint next, and my efforts and inspiration were stalled. But by beginning little studies in a series, all that changed. The think-work was removed, and only painting loose, expressive and joyful remained. That’s where the magic happens!

ON1 Inspiration — Episode 16: Emulating Ansel Adams with Blake Rudis
I have always been a fan of Ansel Adams. As a matter of fact, in High School we were given and artist emulation assignment where we were to photograph something like a great photographer of the past. Whether it was irony or fate, I have yet to determine; my teacher assigned me to Ansel Adams. At first, I thought he just had a funny name, but then I analyzed his work and realized he was a true master of the craft. Needless to say, emulating his style was not an easy task for a High School student. Fast forward about 18 years and I find myself conducting a Workshop in Yosemite National Park. Whether it was irony or fate, I have yet to determine; my teacher assigned me to Ansel Adams. At first, I thought he just had a funny name, but then I analyzed his work and realized he was a true master of the craft. Needless to say, emulating his style was not an easy task for a High School student.
Fast forward about 18 years and I find myself conducting a Workshop in Yosemite National Park. The scenery is awe inspiring, but having my feet planted in the same places Ansel had his, gave me chills to the core. I found myself trying to imagine what Ansel would do with the scenes in front of me. I previsualized the rich contrast black and white images that could be created from the veins of granite running through the monoliths all around me. I imagined the skies turning a rich black to bring out the white puffy afternoon clouds. To say this is a photographer’s playground is an understatement, it is our Disney World!
In this ON1 Inspiration episode, I am going to focus on the things that I previsualized while I was on the scene with a concentration on high contrast Black and White photographs. There are many ways to convert an image to Black and White, but not all of them are created equal. To make the best Black and White images we have to take the best approach and we cannot forget about the stars of the show, “Black” and “White.”
This process is not for the ON1 Effects feint of heart. It requires a build up of several effects, it is slow and methodical and leaves the preset panel in the dust. We will target three key areas to make the most compelling Black and White images, Tone, Color and Artistic Effects. Let’s dive in!

'Painting, Facture and Emotion' is a multidisciplinary workshop organised by Jérôme Pelletier on may 20th 2014 at College de France in Paris. This workshop is part of the French National Research Agency projects conducted by Jérôme Pelletier (www.ave-fiction.ens.fr).
This one-day workshop brought together philosophers of art (Gregory Currie, David Davies, Dom Lopes) art historians (Yolaine Escande, Georges Roque) and neuroscientists (Alain Berthoz, Stéphanie Dubal and José Luis Ulloa Fulgeri).
The woskshop aim was to investigate, both at the conceptual level and at the empirical level, the relations between the perceptual experience of facture in a painting and the beholder's aesthetic experience.

The panel brings together six distinguished women who have worked to design and establish partnerships and programs that bring artists and artistic activity into dialogue with community authorities and the private sector. In addressing the complexities of such collaborations, these leaders ensure that artistic communities are fully represented and have an integral role in the preservation and growth of a city’s infrastructure.
This event is the second in a series of annual public programs organized by ArtTable in collaboration with The New School.

Playback singer Arijit Singh mesmerized the crowd of over 500 students at his Music workshop at Whistling Woods International (WWI) campus on Art and Technique of Singing at the 5th VEDA cultural hub yesterday. The event started with Subhash Ghai along with the students paying a tribute to late Dr. Abdul Kalam followed by a minute’s silence and an AV on Dr. Kalam. Thereafter, a documentary made by the 5th Veda team on Art and Technique of Singing was screened for the audience. Apart from insights about singing, the AV also mentioned about the best singers from across the world and India. The AV was followed by a performance by Simran, the WWI Actor’s Studio student. She sang ‘Awaaz De Kahan Hai’, a soul-stirring song by renowned singer Noor Jahan to welcome Arijit Singh and his team. While on stage, Arijit shared his childhood memories and said, “I mostly practiced modern Bengali and Indian classical music. My guru ji Rajendra Prasad Hazari inspired me to practice more of modern singing as according to him Indian classical was dying.” Interacting with Subhash Ghai in a Q&A; session, Arijit said, “Singing is like talking. It is an art of expression. There are other factors too but they all follow on once you understand your lyrics and rhythm well. There are no rules. You just have to practice well.” Arijit Singh was accompanied by music composer, Sunny M.R. and musician/ recordist, Ankur Mukherjee, who enlightened the students about the nuances of Music Composition. The highlight of the evening was when Subhash Ghai asked Arijit and his team to compose a song based on the lyrics suggested by the students instantly. They agreed and within minutes a new song, ‘Zindagi Pyaar Hain’ was being sung by Arijit amidst huge applause. The new age singer encouraged and applauded the students of Whistling Woods School of Music when they rendered on stage their own composition, ‘Shuruvat Tumse’. While interacting with the students, he sang one of his unreleased song which remains close to his heart till date. Arijit also expressed his wish to join Whistling Woods to attend a short course as he was highly impressed by the world-class facilities and technology. Meghna Ghai Puri, President, WWI thanked Arijit Singh and his team for their graceful gesture of inspiring students to develop their individual, artistic skills and felicitated them with the WWI trophies.

Helen Cottle was born in bay side Williamstown, Victoria in 1962, she is a self-taught/self-educated artist who paints in all mediums in a realist/impressionist style. Helen’s artistic life began in early childhood; she would spend many hours drawing from life always seeking new subject matter.
What began as a part time hobby over time evolved into a passion to express herself creativity in whatever medium called on to compliment the chosen subject.
Helen was greatly encouraged by her high school art teachers to pursue a career in art and teaching; however she decided not to continue on and study art at university but decided to follow her own path of self education and exploration. She attended local art groups and began seeking out tutors to further her technical knowledge and understanding of certain mediums. She has been inspired by various artists past and present, choosing the works of Arthur Streeton, John Singer-Sargent, Harold Herbert closely studying their brushstrokes and techniques. Initially she experimented and then concentrated on oil painting for 5 years and eventually changed focus and decided to specialize in watercolour for which extended for the next 20years.
Helen Cottle has recently moved into acrylic and mixed media. No matter which medium is chosen, she believes that having a fascination with the effects of light on a subject and observing life’s intriguing details, everyday views can be transformed into dynamic and interesting works of art.
Helen’s career began as an Artist and Art educator, with no formal training, just an eagerness to continue to learn and then pass on her gained knowledge to others, encouraging them to enjoy the world of art.
Helen Cottle is currently working as a professional Artist/Art educator in the Macedon ranges north/west of Melbourne. She is a popular and sort after tutor/teacher. Helen currently conducts classes and workshops in various regions, teaching drawing and painting in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media.
Helen has also tutored for the National Gallery of Victoria conducting a watercolour workshops to coincide with ‘Seeing the centre’ Albert Namatjira watercolour exhibition in 2003, with ‘The Modern Britain’s’ exhibition 2008 and again in 2011 for the Gustave Moreau exhibition. Helen currently is a tutor for the Art scene Mitchell School of Art, Bathurst; Dookie Art Attack, Sheparton; Grampians Brushes, Grampians Vic & Cairns Art Society, Qld.
Helen Cottle has held several solo and joint exhibitions that have all been very successful with many sales and commissions extending from them. She participates in many art shows and competitions such as Camberwell Rotary art show; St Kevin’s College Art Show and regularly receives awards, prizes and commendations.
