Squarepusher is the principal pseudonym adopted by Tom Jenkinson (born 17 January 1975), a UK-based recording artist. His compositions draw on a number of influences including drum and bass, acid house, jazz and electroacoustic music. His recordings are typified by a combination of electronic sound sources, live instrumental playing and digital signal processing. He is the brother of Ceephax Acid Crew (Andrew Jenkinson).
Tom Jenkinson grew up in Chelmsford, Essex. The first school he attended was affiliated with Chelmsford Cathedral giving him exposure to organ music, which he has subsequently acknowledged as an influence on his work. He took an interest in music very early in life, and simultaneously became interested in music reproduction equipment.
Much of his early experience of music was from scanning through various radio stations for anything that caught his ear irrespective of style or genre, and he was also fascinated by radio static and amplitude modulation artefacts on the Short Wave band.
Warp, commonly referred to as Warp Records, is an independent British record label, founded in Sheffield in 1989, specialising in experimental electronic music and Intelligent dance music.
Warp was founded by Steve Beckett and the late Rob Mitchell, who had both gained experience working at Sheffield's FON record shop, alongside record producer Robert Gordon. The name was chosen because the original name, 'Warped Records', was difficult to distinguish over the telephone. Warp soon became home to artists who would be influential in electronic music.
The first release (WAP1) was by Forgemasters (produced by Robert Gordon), whose 500 copy pressing of "Track with no Name" was financed by an Enterprise Allowance grant and distributed in a borrowed car. It set a trend for the early releases both in terms of sound, and the use of purple sleeves (designed by The Designers Republic). The follow-up was Nightmares on Wax's "Dextrous", which sold around 30,000 copies. This led to greater commercial success; by its fifth release the label had its first Top 20 chart entry with LFO and their eponymous single, "LFO", which sold 130,000 copies and peaked at #12 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1990; by coincidence, that same month another Warp act, Tricky Disco, reached #14 in the UK chart with another eponymous single, "Tricky Disco".
Blue Zoo are a British new wave band, active between 1980 and 1985, and again since 2010.
Formed in 1980, their original band name was Modern Jazz, and they released two singles entitled "In My Sleep (I Shoot Sheep)" and "Ivory Towers" in 1981.
The nucleus of the band were Andy O (Overall) on vocals, Tim Parry on guitar, Mike Ansell on bass and Mickey Sparrow on drums.
Matthew Flowers (formerly of new wave band Sore Throat) accompanied the band live on keyboards, with Pete Lancaster occasionally on trumpet and Steve Pond from Inner City Unit playing occasional synthesizer.
Tim Parry later went on to become a record producer and work in artist management.
Blue Zoo had three hit singles which charted in the UK. "I'm Your Man" reached #55 in June 1982 and in October 1982, "Cry Boy Cry" reached the Top 20, peaking at #13, becoming the band's biggest hit. It stayed on the UK Singles Chart's Top 40 for eight weeks. "(I Just Can't) Forgive And Forget" reached #60 in May 1983.
Although failing to chart, the much acclaimed single, "Love Moves In Strange Ways" was a single of the week in NME.

So I aimed to recreate that strange combination of exhilaration, terror and sadness both visually and emotionally through this piece. It lead to the idea of a spacecraft leaving earth at vast speed to escape, but oddly the music also made me think of it flying through a library. So I generated the visual aspect such that, as the piece progresses, it seems as if the viewer is ever accelerating through massive corridors of books." For more on Ufabulum album an...

This is the Squarepusher's last encore at Koko in 2005. This was the first tour where he used l.e.d. screens that reacted to his sound. This is his third encore ending a gig that was over 2 hours in length. He went straight from playing with his jazz trio to this set. The jazz trio included Mick Beck on saxophone and Paul Hession on drums. You can see some of that gig here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_5PX1crLHo

Composed and performed by Tom Jenkinson Visuals designed and programmed by Tom Jenkinson and Black Box Echo Constantly at the forefront of Warp's most far reaching electronic sensibilities, revered producer, bass virtuoso, composer and sound artist, Squarepusher has constantly strived to push the frontiers and limits of music, both on record and with his ground breaking live shows. Beyond that, his talent as a bassist has seen him compared to Jaco Pastorious, the very source of inspiration that made him a devotee of free jazz. It is an understatement to say that his newest album, “Damogen Furies" has been eagerly awaited. Each track on the record was recorded in a single take and this veracity shows in the live performance captured on this video. Out of chaos comes order in this powerful...
Leading artists, writers, musicians and directors took part in the Serpentine's first 24-hour Interview Marathon in the park. Developed and hosted by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Rem Koolhaas. The event was recorded on in-built CCTV cameras and originally displayed on plasma screens built into the walls of the 2006 Pavilion. Please be aware that the CCTV footage has a grainy quality, which was part of the original concept devised by Rem Koolhaas and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Squarepusher's elusive BBC Radio 1 Breezeblock Mix from 1999. The file I originally procured was titled "Breezeblock 1996", and many of you will know this mix as such; but Internet Wisdom (and the fact that the Breezeblock Sessions only started in '97) told me otherwise. When it comes to putting together a Tracklisting, I wouldn't even know where to start. If you happen to know what it is then please, be my guest. The set is totally bonkers. Enjoy!

There’s no one quite like our mate Andy Jenkinson, aka Ceephax, aka Ceephax Acid Crew. He’s one of the last great D.I.Y masters working in electronic music and he’s a full-on modern day renaissance man, who still uses the same old school tools (remember Amigas? Me neither) to ply his many trades. Primarily known for what he’s done for the “acid” genre, Ceephax also dips his toes into hip-hop, breakbeat Italo and even some ambient; always with his trusty Roland analog weapons by his side, creating an impressive and expansive output of material. It’s like a big psychedelic feast for your ears. He got signed at his first-ever live show at the age of 17 and throws some of the most epic and outrageous parties/raves in the UK. We traveled to East London where he gave us a tour of his bedroom s...

Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher interviewed by Mary Anne Hobbes before playing his 2004 Breezeblock set.
When routine bites hard, ambitions are low
Resentment rides high but emotions won't grow
We're changing our ways taking different roads
Love will tear us apart again
Love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold? Turned away from your side
Is my timing at fault [Incomprehensible] so dry?
Still there's an appeal that we've kept through our lives
Love will tear us apart again
Love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep? All my failings exposed
There's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold
Yet it's something so pure I just can't function no more
Love will tear us apart again
Love will tear us apart again
Love will tear us apart again
